In 2022, Osàre! Editions founder Elena Colombi approached artists and musicians with a prompt: Every body, everyone needs love to flourish. In her book The Will to Change, the eminent author and social activist, Bell Hooks, invites men to excavate their innermost selves, challenging the way that patriarchal society limits their capacity for intimacy, tenderness, care and emotion. As hooks lays out, feminist thought and work requires the collective participation of all genders in order to realise a liberated world. How can we imagine cross-gender solidarity through music and art? And how can we tell sonic stories that facilitate our full potential as desiring beings? These are the questions that The Male Body Will Be Next starts out from.

The title of the record draws connections between hooks' writing, a film by Rebecca Salvadori and Peter de Potter's stunning photo series of the same name. In de Potter and Salvadori's depictions, men's bodies appear as vulnerable, naked and exposed.

Divided into two parts, the first instalment of The Male Body Will Be Next hinges on colliding energies – the melding of club dance floors and haunting ambient textures, agile techno and noisy experimentation.

'The sun on my skin… it’s so warm and gentle,’ speak-sings Olivia Salvadori on ‘Su Di Te M’Infrango’, visualising utopias. Laurel Halo crafts a dreamscape spun from golden threads of synth and strings. Pensive and reflective, Ben Bertrand’s bass clarinet roams searchingly, its piercing tonality full of longing. Yet, in between these lucid, cinematic passages and spoken word, The Male Body Will Be Next finds space to dance together. Moving in fervent, rhythmic patterns, Sepehr’s ‘Divooneh’ pivots between tension and release. Filmmaker unleashes a wave of energy and The Spy delivers a potent take on vintage electro, the track title hinting at the double-bind of gendered expectations. Propelled between these eclectic styles, the record encapsulates the full spectrum of sonic expression.

Golden Gate Club Records presents the second "Golden Gate Quartett VA“. Four different acts and a diverse collection of tracks from Minimal, Deep Tech to Acid House. One of them, is Mothership, a collective, with Jakob Seidensticker, Boronas and Snad, presenting their Track „Buy or Die“. A very interesting peace of music of spacy and drifty sounds, driven by jazzy rhythmic elements and a dubby soundscape. The Belgium producer and DJ Jerome.c, delivers a rather dry and minimalistic track with his origin attribute of a dominant beat, pushing you back and forth, wrapping you in a hypnotic loop and making you shake in trance. A second collective on this compilation is Rozin & Kahru. Rozin, better know as the experienced producer Tyler Brunton met Kahru, a young DJ and producer from Liverpool at the Golden Gate Club in Berlin. Both became residents at the club and realized their common music taste, leading them to studio sessions and resulting in some great productions. An outstanding track is given us by Tim Etzel, a rising young talent from Mannheim. With his track „Acid Feelings“, he is showing a fresh, joyful and contemporary interpretation of Acid, that makes smily just going wild.

Here’s just a few of the gems on Brown Acid - The Fourteenth Trip, the much beloved series that is the Nuggets of proto-metal, pre-stoner rock: The Legends’ “Fever Games” is a 1969 fever dream of heavy psych on par with Blue Cheer at their heaviest, featuring an incredible intro with whammy-bar gymnastics through an Echoplex. This Harrisburg, PA power trio, featuring Dan Hartman (Edgar Winter Group, et al) and his brother Dave, also name-checks Jimi Hendrix Experience in the midst of the song’s most blatant Hendrix rip. Perhaps that’s how Fever Games work? Transfer’s velvet smooth groove has an almost proto-punk feel like a mashup of the Velvet Underground and The Flamin’ Groovies. But the lyrics referencing tokin’ reefer and the twanging surf lead situate them closer to their heavy rock brethren. This very rare 1974 self- released 45 is this lone archive of the band’s existence—assume they just kept right on playin’ it cool into oblivion. Cox’s Army deploy the grungy rocker “I’m Tired” which sounds like if Jimi Hendrix fronted Mudhoney. Yes, please! Though they hailed from Aurora, IL, it sounds like there’s definitely some Pacific Northwest in their blood. Particularly in the gritty production, which hints at The Sonics’ “bustin’ outta lo-fi” style. Not much is known about the enigmatic Columbus, OH musician known as Raven, whose “Back to Ohio Blues” closes this edition. The mantra-like droning riff of this eight-minute jam is a Black To Comm-style epic, driven by Raven’s hostile, no-bullshit diatribe until it all busts open for an insane two-minute long drum solo soaked in odd effects that sounds like it was copped from a Melvins album.

'Lied To Laure' offers a fresh perspective to hypnotic techno, combining a light approach with a darker aura.

Flipping to the B-side, powerful shapeshifitng, patterns of intense harmonies, spiral, twist rise and fall. Loren Kuehne's paradoxically named 'Less' is the antithesis of its name as it enthralls you, leaving you begging for more. Dennis Bovell is a producer, musician, and engineer who is an indispensable part of the history of British reggae. In 2008, P Vine compiled a collection of Dennis' master recordings under the title "Rebirth of British Reggae" and released it on vinyl for the first time. The Dutch artist who marks his debut in Gladio Operations, gifts us with an enveloping and very well molded track, with perfectly chosen melancholic harmonies. German producer Martin Matiske who also debuts with Gladio Operations and has productions on prestigious labels such as Gigolo Records or Stilleben, is the chosen producer for the fourth track tilted “Telepathic Tuning”. The EP closes with “Round Control” by the young and talented producer from Valencia, Uranio Empobrecido. This track is the most electronic on the EP and possesses the undeniable sound of Detroit, evident in each and every one of the sequences used.

The 1980s saw Spain become a new country. The former stranglehold on the arts loosened and experimentation flourished. This was plain to hear in the music of the time. But history can be cruel and many of the artists and groups that were catalysts of change have faded with time. Frigio Records are righting this wrong with a compilation that brings the sounds of a pioneering outfit back to vinyl with Technoacrazia. Across a double LP, and fifteen tracks, an immense body of work is represented. Megadeath Extreme. Muzak. TodoTodo. V Generation. These are some of the incarnations of post-punk, noise and wave that were formed around the central column of Carmelo Hernández Ramos. A handful of the tracks collected appeared originally on the Madrid’s trailblazing label DRO, many appear for the first time ever. The evolution of electronics on the Iberian peninsula is imprinted on this collection.
