300 Clear White Marble Zanias, has been hard at work over the years as part of many projects including the Dark Entries affiliated ‘Linea Aspera’ and minimal wave band ‘Keluar’ with Sid Lamar. Since then, she has been curating ‘Fleisch’, a club series and record label releasing music from the likes of Schwefelgelb, Forces and Kontravoid. As a solo artist, she has released her debut EP ‘To The Core’ in 2016 and has been collaborating with some of electronic music’s most respected figures. Appearing on Dax J’s critically acclaimed ‘Offending Public Morality’ LP, as well as providing vocals on Black Rain’s ‘Dark Pool’ album on Blackest Ever Black and working with Ancient Methods on last year’s ‘Andromeda’ which was released on Candela Rising. ‘Into The All’ is the culmination of extensive recording and experimentation. It charts a journey of psychospiritual evolution, from an unconscious state through to death and enlightenment. Extra Soul Perception is a collaboration and community music platform which started life between the UK, Kenya and Uganda, and continues to grow and connect independent musicians worldwide. In November 2019, eight artists from Kenya, Uganda and the UK spent a week in Nairobi together exploring new tangents in soul music, the result was their 2020 debut EP 'New Tangents In Kampala, London & Nairobi Vol. 1'.
The growing collective is made up of Faizal Mostrixx (ug), Hibotep (ug), K15 (uk), Karun (ke), Labdi (ke), Lex Amor (uk), Lynda Dawn (uk) and Maxwell Owen (uk). Now with the with the addition of Itsmdnyt (ug), XL Middleton (us), Xenia Menasseh (ke), Sola (uk) and Azu Tiwaline (tun), the collective are preparing to release their album 'New Tangents in Kampala, London and Nairobi', released 25th March.

Three years in the making, work started on the album at a writing camp in Nairobi, and was completed remotely over the course of the worldwide lockdowns of 2020 and 2021. The album celebrates the potential of collaboration, both in a physical and digital sense.
Innovators in their own fields, each artist brings unique knowledge and musical culture to the project, collectively they represent a broad spectrum of sound. The album reflects this via an inspiring mixture of beautiful soul, glitchy beats, spoken word and bumping instrumentals. Embracing the same values of the writing camp but through virtual collaborations, seeing 'soul' as much in the spiritual sense as the musical one, expanding the sound into new territories.

She's had her fair share of collaborations over the years, most notably the cosmic psych rock of Evening Bell and the hazy noir of Slow Skate. The New World is upon us once again. It has been seven years already, since Markus Gebauer debuted on Riotvan under the guise of his New World moniker. That's quite a while in the realm of those sometimes short-term goings-on of clubculture. Yet, Gebauer kept himself busy meanwhile with his alter ego Interviews, reviving the erstwhile identity now that times are calling for a New World more than ever. And that's both, very generally speaking and particularly regarding his slick and classy approach to Neo-Disco-affairs. Interestingly, the lion's share of this EP had been laid down already five years ago, in an ahead of the curve nature that it couldn't sound more up to date right now in 2020. Take opener "Glances" for example. Suspense-packed arpeggio meets a groove-laden bass, gets kissed by some smooth melodies and far-out pads and evokes an immense open-air-hymn potential. Here's a little advance notice: that tune might not leave your head for the whole rest of the summer. "Enough!" in its seductive nonchalance seems to be cut from the same cloth. Another Indie-Disco sureshot filtered through shades-lenses. But "Enough!" - seriously? The hereby summoned feelgood-vibe will surely leave you wanting more. And more you shall get. "Fade Out" opens up with a rather straight beat-pattern, but again, the synth-arrangements, the melodies and harmonies are pure bliss. And then there is "Poéme", that Frankophile floor-enchantment, shaped out in sophistication and elegance, throwing in some subtle Depeche Mode-references and taking the French leave as one of the strongest clubtracks in this batch. Closing things up is Juan MacLean, giving "Enough!" a makeover that aims for the dancefloor as much as, let's say the hammock, infusing both, an irresistible groove and a laid back, almost Dub-like attitude.

Continuing the label's special 7"s releases that capture the nascent 80s post punk, dub, funk and pop - as examined on releases by The Jellies, Woo, Phantom Band, 4AM and more - here a discovery of unheard demos from Dislocation Dance's Midnight Shift album. As part of the eighties Manchester scene, the band's pop and jazz sensibilities have continued to garner attention, offering a rightful place in the city's rich music history. With the closure of Richard Boon's New Hormones label in 1982, they came to the attention of Geoff Travis' Rough Trade. Creating a home studio in the basement of an old rambling farmhouse in Withington, Ian Runacres guitar, vocals), with lyricist Paul EmmersonERC 111 bass), set to work creating demos to garner a deal. Inspired by the funk-disco of Dr Buzzards Original Savannah Band debut album, Here Comes Love was written using Roland Tr-606 drum machine, guitars, bass and cheap) keyboard, its magical and lo-fi charmed quality melts hearts. On Mr Zak, the fun Runacres had is evident. Written as an "indie" song, but with Aztec Camera and Burt Bacharrach on his mind, with Andy Diagram trumpet) and Kathryn Way vocals), hides a structure matching the album version, but which in its rudimentary instrumentation and production is unique and outshines the later version, to encase a specific period and innocence, of time.

January 20, 2020 saw the surprise release of David Lynch's short What Did Jack Do? on Netflix. If you watched the grainy, police procedural over the last few days, you most likely found yourself saying aloud `who is Jack Cruz and how can I get more of his music?' Sacred Bones is announcing the release of the short's featured original song "True Love's Flame" by the primate star crooner of yesteryear; Jack Cruz. Not much is known about Cruz's career prior to his involvement with Lynch, but fortunately, we have not just one song, but two: 'Dancin' in the World of Love' is the B-side to the short's single_uncovered recently and an excellent example of Cruz's emotional prowess and magical, gold-dipped vocal cords. Both songs were written by Lynch and Dean Hurley with artwork carefully crafted by Lynch himself.

"decade", the sixth album by Calibro 35, the legendary cinematic funk combo sampled by Dr. Dre and Jay-Z, gets a reissue on ltd edition Crystal Yellow vinyl edition with bonus tracks.

Record Kicks presents the reissue of Calibro 35's sixth acclaimed album "decade" on limited edition Crystal Yellow vinyl and digital deluxe edition with 3 bonus tracks on April 29th2022. The publication is part of "The Record Kicks Trilogy" that follows the reissue of the first three albums of the band, released in 2020. This time, Milan label Record Kicks will repress on wax of three different colors and on digital deluxe edition, the fourth, fifth and sixth legendary studio albums of the Italian cinematic-funk cult band. The deluxe digital edition of "decade" includes 3 bonus tracks: "Gomma", "Polymeri (Afro-Utopia Version)" and "Travelers, Explorers (feat. Elisa Zoot)".

Released in 2018, "decade"marked 10 years of Calibro 35's career and it's the very first album recorded by Calibro with an orchestral-inspired enlarged line-up that features horns, strings and percussions. Mixed and recorded by Calibro's usual suspect and Grammy Award winner Tommaso Colliva, on the album all the influences collected by the band during their last ten years' journey like music, collaborations, movies, gigs, books find their space. "decade" is Calibro 35's "time capsule" and it is as rare and complex as a timeless work.

Musically Calibro 35's inner influences like Ennio Morricone - listen for instance to the epic journey of the album's end credits "Travelers" - Luis Bacalov and David Axelrod are still there but are now mixed with elements from afrobeat or cosmic jazz. "Psycheground" sounds like Tony Allen involved in writing a score for a vintage Hollywood production while Sun Ra lurks on "Modo". Everything is mixed up with new influences from modern musical languages. References to Jaga Jazzist, Budos Band or Alternative Jazz and Alternative Hip Hop new acts such as Makaya McCraven, Yussef Kamaal, Oddisee can all be found on the album. In tracks such as "Modulor" you realize that "decade" is certainly not a point of arrival and expresses the ambition of the band to look further and evolve. All classic Calibro's vintage instruments such as clavinet, eco, analog synths, fuzz guitars are now supported by new ones such as Dan Bau, Balafon and Waterphone ("Polymeri") in the band's new wall of sound. Thanks to the enlarged line-up and the orchestrated parts involved, which pushed the band to experiment new methods of composition, Calibro 35 on "decade" sound strong, full and tight as never before.

Active since 2008, Calibro 35 enjoy a worldwide reputation as one of the coolest independent bands around. During their fourteen-year career, they were sampled by Dr. Dre on his Compton album, Jay-Z, The Child of lov & Damon Albarn; they shared stages worldwide with the likes of Roy Ayers, Muse, Sun Ra Arkestra, Sharon Jones, Thundercat and Headhunters and as unique musicians they collaborated with, amongst others, PJ Harvey, Mike Patton, John Parish and Stewart Copeland and Nic Cester (The Jet). Each song is "about" something else, of course: a betrayal, a breakup, new love, parenthood. The usual stuff. And we're hardly teenagers. Yet somehow Massage feels like the kind of band you were in back in high school. We were friends first. We all had other lives. We started playing music almost by accident. (Michael wanted to learn drums; Alex wanted to relearn guitar after playing bass in the Pains of Being Pure at Heart; Andrew and David invited themselves to their second practice.) We made a playlist of songs we loved hundreds of them long before we recorded anything: the Feelies, the Go-Betweens, East River Pipe, the Lemonheads, the Breeders, Flying Nun, Sarah Records. Alex and Andrew started writing songs the way kids do to sound like their heroes. No matter how we tried, though, the songs half Alex's, half Andrew's came out sounding like "Massage": scrappy, catchy, minimalist, and sincere, with Gabi's harmonies elevating each track. Every Monday after practice, we went to Jay's Bar for beers and poutine. There was no point to any of this. We were just having fun. Then one day we realized we were a band. Oh Boy is our attempt to capture this easy alchemy on tape the strange magic of a bunch of amateurs coming together, finding their own wavelength, and making something out of nothing. We couldn't have asked for a better partner in crime than our pal Jason Quever of Papercuts, who recorded us on random weekends over the course of two years. We hope the result sounds as loose, low-key, idiosyncratic, and ultimately indelible as the bands that inspired us - the ones you already know, and the ones that are still just teenagers goofing off in some suburban garage.

Moskus could be the perfect 21st century piano, bass and drums trio. Rather than fetishising about the acoustic purity of their sound, the virtuosity of their instrumental technique, or the integrity of their compositional structures, Anja Lauvdal (keys), Fredrik Luhr Deitrichson (double bass) and Hans Hulbækmo (drums/percussion) seem to improvise on ideas more than themes or tunes, and to change direction quickly and effectively as they go, abandoning one thought for another with a refreshing lack of fuss.You can even imagine, instead of musical notation and dots on staves, a series of pictograms, obscure mathematical graphics or spidery Venn diagrams forming and reforming in the air as they play, the ideas rising up to bounce off the ceiling or escape out the window to be reprocessed in another context, perhaps by another group. Similarly, the music can appear as notes or sketches towards something rather than the thing itself, for in the Moskus universe there may be no such thing as a finished product, as everything remains permanently in flux and subject to further adaption and change. Even as it is articulated, a thought or musical phrase is already being reconsidered or evolving into something else. This is contingent music, hyper-alert to nuance and environment, changing like temperature or the weather just as the dynamic of the trio shifts its emphasis when roles are exchanged or the lead swapped from one player to another.Moskus is also a piano trio that is often happy to function without a piano. On 'Mirakler', Anja Lauvdal's frequent use of Yamaha or Korg keyboards summons up the ghost-voicings of an electronic past, from echoes of Sun Ra's Solavox to Vangelis's early-digital Fairlight and Kraftwerk's analogue synths, as if curating a museum of bygone sounds to illustrate our nostalgia for the future. Seitdem zählt die Post-Punk/Synthpop/New Wave-Band zu den Schlüsselbands der belarussischen Post-Punk-Szene. Geschrieben und aufgenommen wurde "Monument" in ihrer Heimatstadt Minsk während der Quarantäne. Molchat Doma haben auf dem dritten Longplayer ihr Handwerk merklich verfeinert. Das Songwriting ist stärker geworden, die Arrangements sind ausgefeilter. Das Gerätearsenal von Roman Komogortsev und Pavel Kozlov ist um eine breite Palette von Synthesizern und Drumcomputern erweitert worden, die mit Präzision von den Musikern bedient werden. Egor Shkutkos Gesang bewegt sich fließend zwischen seinem unverkennbaren deadpan drawl und einer ausdrucksstarken, einlullenden Ruhe. Seine wunderschönen auf Russisch vorgetragenen Texte sind düster und romantisch zugleich. Mit "Monument" haben Molchat Doma eines der schwierigsten Dinge als Band überhaupt erreicht. Sie haben die Bandbreite ihrer Musik stark erweitert und gleichzeitig alles beibehalten, was sie von Anfang an großartig gemacht hat.

At a Boxing Day concert in San Francisco some years back, composer Dave Mihaly and his spirit jazz ensemble, the Shimmering Leaves, did a number of thematic pieces dedicated to well known, and not so well known, prize fighters. Boxing Day seemed a perfect day to honor some of Mihaly’s favorite boxers. The piece dedicated to Muhammad Ali was particularly energetic that evening and after the performance the members of the ensemble talked about Ali and discovered that they all had an affinity for the man. Mihaly immediately began re-working the material to present a sonic narrative arc of Ali’s life and a month later debuted Light in the Ring, the Ali Suite during an engagement at San Francisco’s Elbo Room. The brilliant performance of the suite that evening inspired a member of the audience to suggest that the band record it as an album. The seed was planted. The suite had legs. Dave Mihaly, best known for his drum and percussion work with Jolie Holland and SF improvisational collective Mushroom, has long been recognized as one of San Francisco’s premier musical collaborators, educators, and multi-instrumentalists.

Confusion lies right at the heart of Bergen, Norway’s beloved DATAROCK. It always has. You just need to ask founder Fredrik Saroea to summarise the band’s history and it’s enough to make your head spin. On their 2009 album, Red, they listed almost fifty members, and the soundtrack to their musical – released, with unusual transparency, under the name The Musical in 2015 – featured 87 guests. Meanwhile musicians have come and gone, and often come back again, and maybe gone again, always under friendly circumstances, as the band continues to operate an open-door policy that regularly sees their stage invaded by fans. Music, meanwhile, has sometimes been recorded by the current band’s entire line-up, at other times just by Saroea, and even by formations that Saroea struggles to recall. In fact, Saroea jokes, "the main guy in the band has always been the red tracksuit" – worn by musicians during DATAROCK’s live performances – for which they’ve become famous. Adding to the confusion, however, even that’s now been replaced by a black one. FACE THE BRUTALITY was recorded at Bergen’s Duper Studios, and co-produced by Yngve Sætre. “It's been such a great experience from beginning to end,” Saroea says, “sort of like when we started the band: not caring about the business, and just being friends making music together like teenagers, only now with a hint of life lived.” Subversive and mischievous, disarmingly modest, effortlessly entertaining, and as daft as they are heartfelt, DATAROCK have been sorely missing from our lives these unsettling recent years. Their ambitions remain humble – “We hope the next album will reach out and put a smile on our fellow bitter and bored friends around the world” – but FACE THE BRUTALITY might even entertain a handful or two others.
