The Accidental label pushes on in it’s 21st anniversary year with ‘Thanet House EP’, a no nonsense, no pretention house 12” from renowned sound artist and designer Yuri Suzuki. Born in Tokyo in 1980, Suzuki studied in Tokyo and London, exploring the relationship between music and technology. His design and sound work is widely lauded, with examples of his practice being found in, among others, Tate Britain, MoMA and Mudan. In 2016 he was recognized by Design Miami, receiving their Designer of the Future award and in 2018 became a partner at the world’s largest independently owned design studio, Pentagram.

In recent years disco has made a huge comeback as a collectable genre ranging from the output of classic artists like Donna Summer to obscure gems released across the world from America to Africa. The music on Hey Disco! began to attract interest when the sleeve was featured in the expanded reprint of Jonny Trunk’s 2005 The Music Library book in 2016. In the same year the Big Deal! Weinberger Funk Library 1975-1979 collection featured two tracks - Integration and Hydrogene – from Hey Disco! Integration was an amazing electronic instrumental that had echoes of the sequenced heaven of Donna Summer’s I Feel Love and Hydrogene was an infectious beat driven piece of music. As Hey Disco! was not available digitally, interest remained unsatisfied unless you could get your hands on a rare original copy of the LP. Like, many long established and well run music libraries Josef Weinberger is still thriving today – as JW Media – so I was able to licence the album for reissue directly from them. This vinyl LP was re-mastered from the original tapes by Tim Debney at Fluid Mastering who, as always, has done an amazing job. Bastow’s original compositions on Hey Disco! had a wonderful flow on both sides of the LP. Tracks like Final Destination, Sunset West, Count Off, Sidewalk and Disco Hoedown are as funky as hell and it is a pleasure to allow fans of library music and disco music to be get their hands on this lost gem penned by Trevor Bastow who sadly went to the big disco in the sky in 2000 at the age of 55.

To mark EPM’s 20th anniversary we’ve been releasing a series of EPs, each one focussing on a different genre. In May we brought you a taste of Techno with Robert Hood, Ben Sims, James Ruskin and Mark Broom each delivering their distinct production skills, whilst this September sees the release of our second EP bringing together cuts by some of Electro’s leading lights - The Advent & Zein Ferreira, Carl Finlow, Detroit’s Filthiest and Modulator (a.k.a. Freddie Fresh). For the third and final EP in the series we turn our attention to House music, and once again we’ve commissioned four brand new and exclusive tracks from artists who we’ve had the pleasure to work with over the years. First up is none other than a Detroit Techno founding father and the TechnoSoul innovator himself Eddie Fowlkes, who delivers a classy opener in ‘1-2-3’ that’s deep yet vibrant and showcases his legendary status. Next is a fellow Motor City modernizer, Jon Dixon whose musicianship and productive talent takes him from jazz to techno which he skilfully brings to ‘Mack & Bewick’. Motech Records’ founder DJ 3000 brings us the spirit of ‘Summer 1995’ as he briefly steps away from techno to give us this uplifting sun-drenched stunner. Final track ‘The Beat’ comes from Rico & Sonny, the pseudonym of Chicago based DJ duo and production team of Adam Stolz and the talented Tim Baker, recorded before his devastating and untimely passing. His music lives on and we’d like to dedicate this EP to him. The ‘epm20’ compilation which features all the tracks from the EPs plus additional cuts from a host of other artists and EPM friends will follow this autumn.

Megastructure_ Proudly presents Flesh Reconstruct, a collection of reworks of tracks of Hakai’s first EP, NO Flesh Shall BE Spared. This series of alternate-universe takes on the originals features four major heavyweights of the techno scene – Inhalt Der Nacht, Phase Fatale, Blush Response, and a rare solo remix appearance from Christina Sealey of Orphx. Each mix takes a drastically different approach. Inhalt Der Nacht’s remix of Invading Executioner features clean vocals from Blush Response, something not heard since 2014. Once buried in the original mix, they are now at the forefront. Next up is Christina Sealey’s mix of Anxiety, featuring haunting war horns and organic analog grooves, along with new vocal contributions from Hakai member Jagoda Nagel. Documa is the multimedia project of longtime Northwest Indiana musician Bobby Markos. Markos began writing and releasing music on his own, using analog production methods at home. The project debuted with a collection of songs called “The Color of Documa.” Around the same time, Documa began performing live, marrying audio and visual aspects to create an almost movie-like experience for audience members. The sounds of Documa are heavily influenced by music from the 60s and 70s, documentary soundtracks, and field recordings. The music incorporates fingerstyle guitar playing, as well as electronic compositions and samples to create ambient productions with country-western cadence. Markos relies on a home studio consisting of old reel-to-reel tape machines, VCRs, and cassette decks to engineer Documa recordings.

To integrate a longtime love of film, he founded Documavision, a production company focused on collaborating with other artists, visualizers, and motion graphics. The visual aesthetic focuses on film equipment and methods of the past as well, often using analog cameras, televisions, and VCRs to produce videos.

To close out 2020, Documa has partnered with Flesh & Bone Records to release a series of EPs, starting with the digital release of the EP “3.” and now a cassette release of "Lo-Fi One Two Seven".

'Lothian Buses' is an EP of genre collisions with Proc Fiskal amalgamating his twinkling, caffeinated grime sound with the rhythms and sounds of other genres, without ever overthinking it. To kick off, `Thurs Jung Yout' is a kind of shoegaze drill with strings and gentle tones swelling and dissipating against busy drill beats. `Baguettes' is a more classic Proc sound, a galloping rhythm against a sparse melody that was a quick fix up for a show that turned out well. `Choco Frito (Calamari)' was influenced by the good life, DJing in Portugal in the sunshine and hearing Kuduro played out. The latticing drum patterns nod to the style, dropping into a sunny accordion chorus with a plucked guitar line. `Scarab Aloph' is Proc's style compressed, full of micro-glitches, tight drum fills and incidental drop-outs across a pretty melody, while `HopeTak2' is his percussive, breezy take on funky house with smiley melodic stabs. Finally, `Mullit Madollock' takes the sonics of airy Bukem-style atmospheric jungle, an instantly recognisable inspiration that's not been as foregrounded in Proc's work before, refitted and updated with grime-inspired melodic bass kicks.

And while Swedish artist Lisa Vaccino does all that, she adds a heavy dose of junk culture to her paintings as well that often feel like a trip down memory lane filtered through a messed-up dreamcatcher.

JAMES JARVIS… The body of work of London-based artist James Jarvis is constantly evolving, no matter if you like it or not. Having left his vector-friendly trademark style (partially) behind with “Spheric Dialogues“ already, the pandemic and connected lockdown saw him performing at his most free and adventurous: from static CGI through rather abstract collages to his latest series of consciously bad drawings.

CODY HUDSON… Chicago-based, heavily prolific artist Cody Hudson is constantly switching gears between a rather hectic life in the Windy City and finding a little peace and quiet in his small studio in Wisconsin - not necessarily trying to capture the essence of nature, but using it to find a place within himself.

Bristolian artist, illustrator and toymaker Ed Cheverton debuts as Earth Mother Spectral Pilot with a cosmology-inspired melodic ambient album on Swims. The album is a musical accompaniment to visual works that spawned from a period of deep obsession with cosmology, and the sense of wonder, scale and discovery evoked by that journey. The pieces on the album grew from snippets of music, loops and improvised explorations that coalesced into a set of tracks that sat together as one ‘project’. True to his craft, Cheverton has enhanced the album with thematic art in the form of series of illustrations within the tape insert and postcards accompanying physical orders.
