Ciele Athletics is a Montreal, Canada-based company founded by Jeremy Bresnan and Mike Giles in 2014. In the beginning, the guys at Ciele were nervous. Can they make the goal a reality, are they ready for it? Since the idea for Ciele Athletics had already been maturing in the minds of the founders for two decades, nervousness quickly gave way to enthusiasm, from which a productive energy developed. And then everything fell into place – not least because Ciele adopted its own way of looking at things. “Just a cap” didn’t exist in the mind of Ciele, it was all about developing the perfect cap that was mature in terms of style and function. Ciele Athletics took a relaxed approach to this goal; after all, they wanted to offer a product that was perfect down to the last detail and that every runner could identify with.

All caps from the Ciele Athletics range are equipped with UV protection of UPF +40 on the front and at the edge, and the caps are also washable and compactly stowable, thanks to the bendable visor. The latter means that you don’t protect your head with a crumpled something when you take a Ciele Cap out of your bag, but that it immediately fits perfectly and without pressure points. Plus, Ciele’s proprietary COOLwick™ performance fabrics are optimized to wick moisture to the surface of the fabric so it can evaporate as quickly as possible.

High recycled content as a contribution to a better world

Of course, Ciele Athletics also focuses on the issue of sustainability. The brand is always looking to find recycled and thoughtful solutions in as many cases as possible. In 2020, for example, over 80% of all Ciele caps were made from 30% to 100% recycled Repreve polyester from Unifi. Traceable, transparent and demonstrably sustainable, Repreve ensures that high-quality fibers are made from 100% recycled materials, including water bottles and pre-consumer waste.

In 2021, Ciele Athletics further increased the use of premium Repreve fibers throughout its product line. More than 85% of Ciele’s offering will now be made from certified Repreve fiber, with 60% of the range made exclusively from recycled fabrics.

But that’s not all: Ciele Athletics is also working on packaging and shipping solutions that reduce waste. They’ve brought on board Grounded Packaging as a partner in 2021, which means they’re using sustainable packaging, bioplastics and products made from recycled materials. Customized shipping boxes made from FSC-certified recycled paper bring it full circle.
