Adventurous southern California punk trio Agent Orange was the first band to mix surf rock with punk. The group was formed in1l979 in Placentia, a small town close to Fullerton and Anaheim, by frontman Mike Palm on guitar and lead vocals, Steve Soto on bass and Scott Miller on drums. That early line up recorded the classic version of "Bloodstains" in 1979 as a demo produced by Daniel R. van Patten (of the group Berlin). A year later it was included on the seminal Rodney On The Roq compilation album released by Posh Boy Records. Meanwhile James Levesque had replaced Steve Soto (Adolescents) and the new line up released their own self produced and self released 7" ep in 1980. A year later, the group signed with Robbie Fields' Posh Boy Records for their debut LP Living In Darkness, co-produced by Fields and former Simpletones guitarist Jay Lansford. The album was recorded at Brian Elliott’s store front studio in North Hollywood (a few years before Elliott struck gold writing Madonna’s “Papa Don’t Preach”). The group is completed by the Italian bassist Riccardo del Fra (who frequently played and recorded with Chet Baker) and Chicago drummer Aaron Scott (who the year following this Grenoble concert would start a 14-year association and tenure with pianist McCoy Tyner as part of the McCoy Tyner Trio, winning three Grammy Awards and performing worldwide). No Business: The PPX Sessions Volume 2 continues the documentation of Jimi Hendrix’s pre-Experience sideman work with the Harlem-based R&B combo. These twelve recordings were captured at Studio 76 in 1965 [as well as two controversial sessions in July and August 1967] and offer a fascinating glimpse of Hendrix’s genius in the years before—and during—his early success. It includes the 1965 demo of the first known Hendrix composition (“Working All Day”) and shiver-inducing guitar playing that hints at the genius to come. While not a Jimi Hendrix album the music is now under the control of Experience Hendrix, and thanks to them has been lovingly restored by legendary engineer Eddie Kramer for RSD Black Friday, giving fans the chance to enjoy these tracks in their proper historical context in a numbered, limited edition brown vinyl release.

1978 was a banner year for Dexter Gordon. Maxine Gordon (then Gregg) had started to manage his career, he signed with Columbia and moved to New York, forming and grooming his own band all at age 52! The wonderful quartet included George Cables on piano, Rufus Reid on bass, and Eddie Gladden on drums. This November 1978 concert at the Chateauvallon Jazz Festival highlights Dexter's joyous and fiery mood, peppering his solos with outrageous quotes from other songs. Pressed on 180-gram vinyl. Edith Sitwell’s series of her most famous poems re- released on the 100th anniversary of the original transcripts. Includes the original ultra rare Jim Flora artwork, this beautiful package includes 26 page lyric booklet. Idolised by Smiths frontman Morrissey, Sitwell was like the Warhol of her day, publishing a mountain of essays and poems covering every aspect of the arts. The Scarborough-born poet-eccentric extraordinaire who had once publicly declared that her immense wisdom had been born of a long, unrequited love affair with the Russian painter, Pavel Ychelitchew (unrequited on the account of his homosexuality). Morrissey heavily featured Edith as his tour mascot on his Kill Uncle tour and used her image as his stage backdrop and on his T-shirts.

Described as ‘entertaining idiosyncratic experimentalism’ (‘Who’s Who of Indie and New Wave’), but they also have very evident pop sensibilities. Best known for their indie-chart hits such as ‘Debbie Harry’, ‘Playing Golf With My Flesh Crawling’ and ‘Savoir Faire’, today they sound like a forerunner of Stereolab. A group of musicians based around songwriter Alig Fodder, with vocals regularly contributed by French chanteuse Dominique Levillain, who met through mutual friends This Heat. This is an edited vinyl version of their 1998 'best of' CD, issued on Douglas Wolk's Dark Beloved Cloud label in the USA, with newly concise versions of some lengthier tracks. Since then they've regenerated and have issued new albums on various labels and also on Bandcamp, and had their songs covered by a number of their many artist admirers.

Formerly unreleased, super-rare tracks from the original New York scene, art-house band Gray originally fronted by the legendary artist Jean-Michel Basquiat. A slice of the Lower East Side New York grounded in real experiences, real feelings and the joys of urban living, expressed through the tracks ‘Never Gonna Leave New York City’ & ‘Willie Mays, Boom For Real’ from founding Gray member Michael Holman and bandmate Nicholas Taylor. This RSD release comes in a stunning full colour sleeve complete with liner notes from executive producer, as well as legendary counterculture author and rock biographer (Jagger, Dylan, Bowie, Pink Floyd, The Ramones, Talking Heads, Zappa, etc), Barry Miles.

Brooklyn-based rapper Half-A-Mill climbed his way up from the underground in the late ‘90s with an initial breakthrough on 1997’s one and only album by The Firm, the supergroup featuring Nas, AZ, Nature and Foxy Brown, alongside producers Dr. Dre and the Trackmasters.

After this high-profile appearance, Half-a-Mill then started setting the stage for the release of his debut album “Milíon” with the single ”Thug Ones" which featured Noreaga, Kool G Rap, and Musolini. “Milíon” became an underground classic, featuring guest appearances by AZ, Kool G Rap, Musalini, Noreaga, Ali Vegas and Spice 1, with production by Just Blaze, The Neptunes, DJ Scratch, and DJ Ali among others.

Tragedy struck in 2003 when the rapper was shot dead at his home in Brooklyn. Tuff Kong now proudly moves to keep his legacy alive by releasing Milíon on vinyl for the first time ever.

Halo were a late 70s / early 80s West Coast soul and funk band. Key members include James King Jr (who later joined The Futures and release solo singles on Expansion), singer / songwriter Karvin Johnson (who sang with Gemini and recorded with Johnny Gil), and Greg Colema. Let Me Do It is a rare and extremely classy soul / boogie track from 1981, largely unknown at the time but becoming progressively sought after. A 12” Extended Version has been especially re-edited for this exclusive release. The group’s 1988 single Life has sold for hundreds of 12” and have now endorsed a rock guitar free ‘re-edit’ exclusive to Expansion.

Celebrating 100 years of two prolific composers and three of their iconic film soundtracks, which are collected here for the first time. It’s the 60th anniversary of the film Voulez-vous Danser Avec Moi? a film that’s feature stars such as Serge Gainsbourg and Brigitte Bardot who became one of France’s biggest stars off the back of Une Parisienne and Voulez-vous Danser Avec Moi? which also features features Serge on vocals. The films also features stars such as Henri Vidal, who sadly died of lung cancer soon after the finishing filming of Voulez-vous Danser Avec Moi?.

Hodeir was born in Paris and trained as a classical violinist and composer and Henri Crolla was an Italian jazz guitarist and composer who moved to France when he was just 2 years old. They met in the early 50’s and scored over ten films together.

The memorable 40th anniversary official theme song “JOIN THE PAC” was produced by ‘Ken Ishii’, the techno god of the Orient. The video clip of his masterpiece “Extra” (directed by Koji Morimoto also known as the drawing director of the movie “AKIRA”) was awarded “MTV Dance Video of the Year” in UK, which brought him as one of Japan’s most proud producers to the world.

A special music video for “JOIN THE PAC” is directed by Yuichi Kodama, who is renowned as a chief video director of flag handover ceremony at the 2016 Rio Olympics closing ceremony, and his “UNICLOCK” online ad campaign (2008) for UNIQLO, which won grand-prix of three biggest advertisement awards, the Cannes International Advertising Awards, the Clio Awards, and the One-Show.

South London blues-rock band Killing Floor was formed in the late 1960s with lead singer and harmonica player Bill Thorndycraft, guitarist Mike Clarke, bassist Stuart McDonald, pianist Lou Martin and percussionist Bas Smith, with Muddy Waters their foremost inspiration. After an eponymous debut album produced by former music writer John Edward, issued by the independent Spark label (and licensed to Sire in the US), Killing Floor was signed by Larry Page, who placed follow-up LP Out Of Uranus on Penny Farthing, again with Edward in the producer’s chair. "January 12th, 2020, a Sunday night in Toronto - Matthew Tavares and Leland Whitty (of Badbadnotgood fame) are reunited at Burdock for a live improvised Jazz session. The pair are joined on stage by bassist Julian Anderson-Bowes and drummer Matt Chalmers as part of Burdock’s Piano Fest, an annual event at the city's brewery and music hall. Two days later an email from Matthew hits Mr Bongo's inbox... ""I think it turned out amazing, brought some really nice recording gear and it sounds almost like a studio record, thought I'd share. Moments definitely get to the jazzier side but there is some spiritual moments that are so far out"". The Bongo office were all blown away by this free-flowing session, one which sounded like a well-rehearsed set at the end of a long tour, rather than a one-take improvised assembly. The chemistry between the musicians is magical. The tight friendship and musical connection between Tavares and Whitty are self-evident, however, Chalmers and Anderson-Bowes have a great contribution to make too. They act as the solid foundation that leaves Tavares and Whitty free to roam and explore moments of darkness and light, intensity and beauty. Menswear were the 90s Britpop band who formed in Camden and signed a record deal after their fifth gig. The album reached no 11 in 1995 with three top 20 hits - the biggest single Being Brave at no 10 in 1996. Other singles include Daydreamer (UK14) Stardust (UK16), Sleeping In (UK24) and We Love You (UK22) and I’ll Manage Somehow which received good reviews in NME and Melody Maker. This special release represents the last live performance of Pink Floyd with Da vid Gilmour, Nick Mason and Richard Wright. Loaded was the single that changed everything for Primal Scream. It started as a simple request from Primal Scream member Andrew Innes to Andrew Weatherall for a remix of the song I'm Losing More Than I'll Ever Have off the group's second (and self-titled) full length album, an album which hadn't met with much success. Weatherall did one, slightly hesitant remix of it, and was then told by Innes to get radical with the rearrangement. Weatherall tossed the original Bobby Gillespie vocal and reworked the song completely, adding a looped beat he sampled from an Italian bootleg 12" remix of Edie Brickell and The New Bohemians' song What I Am (which itself used a lifted beat from Soul II Soul.) The pro-hedonism sample that introduces the song is of Peter Fonda dialogue from the 1960s motorcycle counterculture film The Wild Angels. The sample serves as a statement of intent not only for the song, but also the then-forthcoming album Screamadelica, and, essentially, the entire Ecstasy era. The success of the resulting rock/electronic hybrid went to number 16 in the UK charts and set the template not only for Primal Scream's future career but for an uncountable number of indie bands from that moment on (The Farm and The Soup Dragons were two early and obvious adopters of this new approach). Loaded, where the essence of the groundbreaking album Screamadelica was born, was substantially instrumental for revitalizing independent rock and dance for a new decade.

Born Samantha Owens in Liverpool, Jones began her recording career in The Vernon Girls, a female singing group affiliated with the Vernon Football Pools company; they created a popular Beatles tribute album in 1964 with producer Charles Blackwell, who launched Jones’ solo career that same year. Blackwell producer a debut solo LP for Ascot in 1968; two years later, Larry Page released sophomore set A Girl Named Sam, with Austrian wunderkind Mark Wirtz casting her in the broad realm of pop, though most of the songs describe romantic failures. The album thus has a tongue-in-cheek cover of Burt Bacharach’s “I’ll Never Fall In Love Again” and credible renditions of Aretha’s “You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman” and Jackie DeShannon’s “Put A Little Love In Your Heart.” Limited green vinyl 180gr press with one bonus track for RSD 2020.

Sandie Shaw was one of the most successful British female singers of the 1960s, forever famous for winning the Eurovision Song Contest in 1967 with “Puppet On A String”. She dominated the UK charts with a flood of pop hits during the late 1960s – including three number one singles – yet ventured into a funkier direction with this her fifth studio album. This was Shaw’s first time producing an album herself and she chose songs by alternative artists from the 1960s with covers of tracks by The Beatles, Rufus Thomas, Lovin’ Spoonful, Dr. John, Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan and what, on release in 1969, was the first ever cover of a Led Zeppelin song (Your Time Is Gonna Come). Her sensual voice and a strong backing band, featuring Ian Wallace of King Crimson on drums, gives these classic tunes a new lease of life. This release features the long lost mono mix of the original album plus a second disc of bonus material from the same sessions, including versions of Paul McCartney’s ‘Junk’ and ‘Frank Mills’ from the Broadway show Hair, collected together on vinyl for the first time.

21 Metres To Hebden Bridge is a ragged-edged document of Snapped Ankles’ 2019 live show, during which they sold out and sold up venues the length and breadth of the country. At the beginning of quarantine in April, Ed Roland was in Sarasota, Florida with a few others and they decided to start a new band and call it The Living Room. They didn’t want it to sound like Collective Soul or The Sweet Tea Project (Roland’s Americana side band) and they started talking about favorite bands to which Ed said that one of his is The Cars. So, Ed woke up and began writing songs inspired by the new wave era of The Cars, ELO, and Roxy Music.

This release replicates the U.K. version, with two extra songs, “Some Things Just Stick In Your Mind” and “We’re Wastin’ Time” that were not on the original U.S. release.
