Autonomie Minérale is the apex of a triptych that sprang up in less than three years. There is nothing fortuitous about this name, “Tachycardie.”

After Probables (2019) and Sommé-e (2020) his previous intuitions have developed into goldsmithery: this piece resulted from the alloying and balancing of the mechanical oscillation of a stone that is hit, stricken, and the electronic oscillation of a home-made synthesiser. Thus, no one can tell where synthesis starts and where sonic naturalism ends. Tachycardie is therefore a game of chaos where chance looms large, as usual with the way things are, from the commonest to the most beautiful of all things. A stone like a windfall, somehow.

Clément Vercelletto was first encountered in Kaumwald, where he and Ernest Bergez blended club music, avant-garde, and imagined folk rumors like warped children’s hoops—or served as a particle accelerator for vernacular songs from Extremadura collected by Marion Cousin. Recently, he’s been known, among other guises, as Sarah Terral, wrestling wildly with modular synths that rank among the most abrasive, poetic, and mercurial we’ve heard in ages. More recently, he has taken up the bagpipes (he resembles something of a dark bird blowing into a goat, if that rings any bells).

L’Engoulevent is the first record to appear under his real name.

Entirely composed on a small electronic organ—both rudimentary and surprisingly complex—whose pipes have been replaced by bird calls controlled via a Midi interface (designed by the musician and built by luthier Léo Maurel), the album was recorded in three acoustically contrasting locations: from an ultra-dry studio to "former wine silos with a twenty-second resonance."

Yet from this disparate palette emerges a perfectly coherent work, which might be described as contemporary music. However, its creator, more geographer than historian, calls it "landscape music." It weaves nimbly from one composition to the next (six in total), conjuring visions of low-pulse dwarf techno, submerged folk music from distant lands, field recordings of a half-imaginary territory, theater for the ear.

Vercelletto summons, through the titles and materials, an ensemble of animal displays (cui-cui), mineral properties (Tourmaline), vegetal delinquency (Le cœur pourri du taro, La grande berce), sandy coves, rocky headlands, and humble marshes (Hoëdic Long). Full of clattering, key clicks, valve chirps, muffled polyrhythms, electronic sighs, and ghostly breaths, L’Engoulevent offers a music that is at once anxious and enchanted, capturing the sound of a vibrant, hypersensitive living fabric—our own.

« Curiositi » is the work of Nicolas Cueille, French composer and multi-instrumentalist. Over the last fifteen years, he has been very active dabbler in music notably as a musician: Pyjamarama, La Colonie De Vacances to name very few and as the co-founder of Presque Tout, an ongoing net archive of sonic landscapes from all around the world. As for as name-dropping goes, “Curiositi” is Brian Eno and Moondog getting together to write the soundtrack to a new season of “Scavengers Reign”. Some will find nods to Laurie Spiegel or Haruomi Hosono, will probably want to watch scenes from « 2001 A Space Odyssey» and cuddle up with « Keyboard Fantasies » by Beverly Glen Copeland. Minimal in the making yet massively thought provoking in its impact, a mirror effect as playful and demanding, as synthetic and poetic. This is such a cozy place. Why would you leave?

Images Of Goo is what Munich sound bricolageurs Leo Hopfinger aka LeRoy (head of Das Hobos, H, Spiritual Emojis and others) and Cico Beck aka Joasihno (active member of The Notwist, Aloa Input, Spirit Fest and others) call their first musical dialogue in album format.

It is equally a dialogue with the elements of their sonic repertoire of echo variations and sonic shadows from the percussive instrument box. In their sum, a Wunderkammer of a panaudic, which can be approached and departed in six tracks per side.

There we pass a fuzzy factory flow music of sound tiles and find ourselves in the next station in a game of pot banging and gong shower with firecrackers and other sound explosions. Tinpan tinkertoy and sparkler warehouse become an offbeat downbeat of sound loops, and already we imagine ourselves amid the hammering and pounding of a magic sound forge at the center of the earth, which may be the center of a distant galaxy.

On side two, we enter a dripstone cave boogaloo ("Let's start tripping") and it drips candle wax from a vocoder space-age melody, emoting and coagulating into a Morse-coding cumbia chant. Wax music this is - music that grows out of itself, even if by the means of tape and collage.

At the end there is a music snake, which, having become snake music itself, disappears in front of our ears with a swing. And maybe this is the beginning ...
