But then there is something undeniably different about Thee Marloesand their music, something new and distinct. And while you may be acquaintedwith soul music, you've probably never heard it from Surabaya, Indonesia_theplace they call home.Thee Marloes are Natassya Sianturi singing and playing keys, Tommy Satwickon drums, and Sinatrya ("Raka") Dharaka on guitar and handling production.Their sound has the universal appeal of soul, jazz, and pop, but with a distinctapproach attributable to their local culture and global inuence. The world'sintroduction to Thee Marloes' debut album Perak, started with "MidnightHotline" the scorching A side to their debut 7" on Big Crown. A punchy dance-oor number with an infectious chorus, vibey piano, and jazzy guitar licks.Contrasting that energy in the classic plug and ballad pairing dynamic, the Bside "Beri Cinta Waktu" has all the makings of a beloved soul ballad but thelyrics are in Indonesian. Regardless of any language barrier, the sentiment intheir music is palpable, helping to make their songs relatable and heartfelt. Therest of Perak ts perfectly in between those bookends of both energy andlanguage, "I Know" is a mid-tempo burner that talks about pulling the veil oflies off a love affair founded on falsehood. "Not Today" is right up there with thegrooviest feel good songs you could ever play on a Sunday morning withNatassya reminding us to make space for ourselves no matter what life throwsour way. Hailing from Surabaya, Indonesia they have a very unique approach to their music that mixes elements of their local culture and sounds with influences from American Soul Music, Jazz, and Pop. This first 7" offering is a glimpse at the range of their music, one side, a strong upbeat plug that leans into the intersection of Soul & Jazz and the flip a gorgeous ballad that can play next to B side ballads but has an energy and texture all its own.The A side "Midnight Hotline" is an infectious up tempo tune that can keep a dance floor moving with an earworm chorus that you will wake up the next morning singing. Punchy horn lines and warm electric piano ride atop a bouncing backbeat while lead singer Natassya reels the listener in with a tale of a late night love that she can't get enough of.The B Side takes on an entirely different energy, "Beri Cinta Waktu" is a beautiful love ballad that takes its time and uses space beautifully. Sung in Indonesian over a stripped back track of hand drums, electric piano, and guitar chanks, Natassya's show stopping performance conveys emotion that transcends any language barrier.

Thee Marloes give us with another killer of a two-sider while they finish recording their debut album.The A side "Logika" is a laid back tune about where the head and the heart meet and how they often don't see things the same way. Natassya Sianturi's honeyed vocals float over a beautifully arranged track driven by guitar riffs, organ, and reverb drenched stick hits. They manage to put the perfect amount of paint on the canvas with the band sounding tight as ever hitting all the changes that bring in the earworm chorus that stays in your head even if you don't speak Indonesian. The B side "True Love" finds Thee Marloes dipping back into the soulful side of jazz but this time with a beat ballad that could soundtrack a Tarantino movie and hold court with the best of the genre. This one leans you back in your chair setting the mood for a smokey lounge affair and a strong drink. Two more pages from Thee Marloes book on a must have 45 giving a taste of what is to come on the 2024 full length.
