Noctorum is a collaboration between guitarist/singer-songwriter Marty Willson-Piper (The Church, The Saints, All About Eve) and producer Dare Mason. Dare and Marty grew up together on the Wirral, near Liverpool, listening to classic ‘60s pop singles, Singer-Songwriters, Krautrock, Spacerock, Prog, Art Rock, New Wave, Punk, Funk, Glam Rock, Heavy Rock, Reggae and Soul – probably the reason for their diverse and eclectic sound. Moving to Australia in the early ‘80s, Marty joined The Church and then in the early ‘90s All About Eve, while Dare concentrated on becoming an engineer and producer, working at the renowned Townhouse Studios in London, before founding the VIP Lounge studio in Penzance, Cornwall. In the early noughties Dare and Marty formed Noctorum and in 2003 they released their first album on Heyday Records, Sparks Lane (rsd 2021) . Before their second album, Marty joined The Saints and in 2006 Heyday released Offer The Light (rsd 2023). Their third album Honey Mink Forever was released 2011 and has never been released on vinyl. The album features some really beautiful guitar tones throughout with Marty’s playing varying from soft and sensitive to rip-roaring full on lead. The album concludes with a giant jump into Jazz as two worlds meet with local Jazz players doing their thing while Marty adds a left-wing rock guitar element making this an interesting hybrid. The cover art is a photograph of the artifacts window in the physical In Deep Music Archive and arguably the coolest album cover of the band’s catalog. Pressed for Record Store Day 2024 on canary yellow vinyl.

"In Reflection" is the debut solo album from legendary guitarist Marty Willson-Piper (The Church, The Saints, All About Eve) and was released exclusively on Chase Records in Australia in 1987. It has never been released on vinyl since, until now. The album was recorded in its entirety in an apartment on Bondi Beach on a Teac A-3440 4-track tape machine using a Roland rhythm arranger and the Sydney Morning Herald hit with a drum stick for the snare drum sound. As Willson-Piper states "This was early daze for drum machines, and getting the pattern you wanted wasn’t that easy, and such a machine was not on my radar. All the simplistic techniques involved in creating this music, along with the instruments used, are detailed in the booklet. Recording alone and 'dropping in' an instrument meant putting a heavy book on the record button of the remote control and dropping it in using your sockless big toe on the play button, engaging record mode. Those were the days." Available exclusively for RSD 2025 on limited colored vinyl.

Music For Roads is a new immersive instrumental collaboration between Finnish psychedelic indie folk group Tuomo & Markus and jazz trumpet virtuoso Verneri Pohjola. It's a cross cultural collaboration between Nordic jazz and indie folk/Americana players, who created a unique, cinematic soundscape.
They brought in some established guests in the studio, inc. NYC guitar legend Marc Ribot and French saxophone player Sylvain Rifflet. The inspiration for these tracks came from the many tours these Finnish musicians have had in America over the years. American landscape, history, Americana culture and the current political turmoil created a common thread for these tracks. The title for the album is a nod to Brian Eno’s Music For Airports. All the immersive tracks were captured live in the studio onto 2” tape and mixed in 7.1.4. format back onto magnetic tape, making it the world’s first fully analog Dolby Atmos master. The musicians used the immersive format in a creative way to enhance the music and arrangements.

Urban Urbane is the fifth solo album from David J (Bauhaus, Love & Rockets), originally released on MCA Records in 1992. The album is a musical travelogue of sorts, with the initial recordings taking place in the tiny English village of Guilsborough, then London, New York and Los Angeles Aside from referencing those last three ports of call, the songs also name check New Orleans, Saint Petersburg and Memphis. It is a kind of collection of poetic snapshots from an itinerant drifter on the run.

The record is graced by contributions from a stellar cast of guest musicians including T Bone Burnett, Peter Murphy, Sonic Boom, Danny Thompson, Max Eider, The Uptown Horns and Charlie Giordano (E Street Band) amongst others. It was co-produced by the great Niko Bolas (Neil Young, Los Lobos etc).

To celebrate Urban Urbane’s 30th Anniversary this beautiful collection is being released exclusively for Record Store Day for the first time ever on vinyl. 2006’s Offer the Light is the second release from Noctorum, the collaboration of Marty Willson-Piper (The Church, All About Eve, The Saints) and multi-instrumentalist/producer Dare Mason (The Church, Placebo, Wedding Present). Following the band’s most successful album to date, 2019’s The Afterlife, and 2021’s Record Store Day vinyl release of their debut Sparks Lane, this reissue of Offer The Light is eagerly awaited, especially as both The Afterlife and Sparks Lane sold out immediately and are currently out of print. . Offer The Light’s sonic blueprint doesn’t stray too far from The Church’s blend of Velvet Underground menace and the Byrd’s glorious jangle. It’s a rather beautiful “’70s rock album”, along the lines of Pink Floyd, but not too far from the band for which Willson-Piper is most famous. As any fan of The Church already knows, Marty’s one helluva guitar player, is an avid supporter of independent record stores, worked in one in Stockholm for years and has a vinyl record collection of over 50,000 albums. He also hosts a daily blog and website called the “In Deep Music Archive” where he talks about vinyl and albums from the past, showcasing several entries a day and having a loyal readership of several hundred followers a day.

“GREAT LOST” ALBUM BY N.C. LEGEND SAM MOSS IS DISCOVERED, MIXED FOR DELUXE RELEASE produced by Chris Stamey In Winston-Salem, N.C., guitarist Sam Moss is a legend. A superior, highly versatile musician whose advocacy for the blues and mastery of the nuances of electric blues-based soloing somewhat paralleled Mike Bloomfield’s in Chicago, Moss was an inspiring, charismatic mentor to generations of North Carolina rockers, including Let’s Active and The dB’s. He was a larger-than-life character whose club appearances astounded local audiences, yet he never released a record in his lifetime. So, producer Chris Stamey was thrilled to discover, in 2020, on the end of an old tape, forgotten masters of Blues Approved, a spectacular Stax- and Muscle Shoalsinfluenced solo record, made with Mitch Easter in 1977. This “great lost” record reveals that Moss was also a soulful songwriter and singer. It has now been carefully remixed and produced for release, with a deluxe booklet featuring detailed liner notes and bio, session notes by Easter, and lots of vivid color photos. Peter Holsapple (The dB’s) says, “Sam Moss was an inspiration to so many of us; with the release of Blues Approved, people everywhere will understand why.”Blues Approved will be released on CD and digitally by Schoolkids Records on January 28, 2022, with a vinyl edition to follow in the summer. Mitch Easter of Let’s Active recalls: “Sam wrote interesting songs that almost always had a blues angle, but he brought in a lot of elements from elsewhere.” But the material then sat on the shelf, unreleased, as Moss opened a vintage guitar store, selling internationally to rock stars and other celebrities for several decades. On July 30, 2021, the City of Winston-Salem honored Moss with a sidewalk star in the city’s Walk of Fame downtown.

Naoise Roo (“Nee-Sha Roo”) is a musician from Dublin, Ireland. Lilith is her debut album, originally released in 2015 available for the first time worldwide. Often described as the Irish PJ Harvey or Kate Bush, Roo often draws inspiration from mythology in her music to explore complex conceptions of feminine power and identity. The album title itself is a direct homage to the ancient Hebrew and Biblical Lilith – Adam’s first wife and, depending upon the version of the tale referenced, also the first witch or woman of power who eschewed male dominance. The album’s breakout track “Whore” is an examination of female sexuality and power as threats to male society and mainstream religion. After a run of acclaimed albums released via New Zealand’s Flying Nun label through the 1980s, The Verlaines signed a deal with Los Angeles-based Slash Records. By mid-1992 the band were regrouping after touring in support of Ready To Fly, their first album with their new label. Second guitarist and vocalist Paul Winders joined and new drummer Darren Stedman was recruited. With Graeme Downes and Mike Stoodley, they began rehearsals at home in Dunedin, New Zealand, working on a new set of songs that would become Way Out Where. The resulting set of songs was a bigger, denser and more muscular sounding recording compared to earlier efforts, with exhilarating distorted guitars and drums and vocals to the fore. Chicarelli pushed the band in more of a rock direction, typified by songs like the rollicking This Valentine, the monolith Blanket Over The Sky, the pop perfection of Lucky In My Dreams, and the stirring, now classic Dirge. On the tail of these sessions Chicarelli joined the band in Sydney, Australia where they cut their contribution to the No Alternative compilation, “Heavy 33”. Way Out Where has never been issued on vinyl. Now on transparent black vinyl for Record Store Day 2024
