Formed in the anonymous town of Watford, northwest of London, in 1980, atmospheric quintet Sad Lovers and Giants was part of the bourgeoning post-punk scene. With a barely perceptible undercurrent of paisley psychedelia, the group’s jangling guitars, eerie keyboards, subdued beats, and brooding vocals put them somewhere between the Chameleons, Echo and the Bunnymen and early Cure. Epic Garden Music was the debut release on Nick Ralph’s Midnight Music label and this expanded edition comes with five bonus tracks taken from their first three singles – a must for all SLG fans and post-punk devotees.

Released in 1982, You Goddamn Kids! by Geza X is a raw, rebellious album from L.A.’s underground punk scene. Known for producing bands like the Dead Kennedys and Black Flag, Geza brings his wild production style to his own music here, mixing punk energy with satirical lyrics that take sharp jabs at society. Tracks like "Isotope Soap" and "We Need More Power" embody the chaotic spirit of early punk. The circumstances were ordinary: the results, extraordinary. In early 1982 I was having my usual 1 pm breakfast with disk jockey Rodney Bingenheimer at a very ordinary Denny's coffee shop when the visiting German director Uli Edel dropped by with Christiane Felscherinow in L.A. to promote the film Christiane F. (Wir Kinder von Bahnhof Zoo). Edel had intended to tour with the young actress Nadja Brunckhorst but her father had vetoed the trip, so the real Christiane F. went, swearing to keep clean. We found out much later, she didn't. Over pancakes, Rodney mischievously suggested to the still teenaged Christiane that she should make a record. And Posh Boy across the table could make it happen! I made one phone call to then New York based David Javelosa of Posh Boy act Los Microwaves who leapt at the opportunity at producing a high profile release that could be as dada as he liked on a budget of USD l000. In between the charting debut LP City Baby Attacked By Rats and the acclaimed follow-up, City Baby’s Revenge, the independent Clay Records gathered all their Charged G.B.H. singles for the shocking compilation, Leather Bristles No Survivors And Sick Boys, capturing their versatility, as well as their shit-on-you attitude. Raw, violent and catchy, Blitz's 1982 debut album sounded like a shot of pure rock and roll through the violence of the English working class. Made up by two punks and two skinheads, with a lot to say about violence and football, Blitz appealed to all kinds of lowlifes, who finally had a voice for their generation. This new version of the long out of print classic includes three bonus tracks (2 from the 'Carry On Oi!' comp and one from the 'Total Noise' comp).

Motörhead's legendary performance in Buenos Aires on 14th May 1994 was a high-octane show that electrified fans with their raw energy and iconic sound. It marked a memorable moment in their South American tour, showcasing Lemmy's unmatched charisma and the band's ferocious live presence.

One of the most popular and notorious of all British hardcore acts, the Exploited were formed on a dire Edinburgh council estate in 1978 by singer Terry Buchan and guitarist Stevie Ross, although Buchan’s brother Wattie would soon become leader and the lineup seldom stayed stable. Influenced by the Pistols, they built their large working class and skinhead following through an aggressive, fast-paced, and uncensored hardcore style. Gathering singles from their street punk days and the best tracks from their first three albums, Totally Exploited was the band’s first compilation and it remains the best by far. Born of working class roots in Edinburgh, Scotland, The Exploited emerged from the punk underground in 1981 with the release of their debut LP, Punk's Not Dead. A direct reaction to Crass' "Punk Is Dead", The Exploited brought to the early 80s all the fire, speed and attitude of 1977's first wave, with an street/Oi! swagger that was fresh. Peaking at #20 on the UK charts, Punk's Not Dead was the best selling independent record of 1981. Another essential piece of the UK Oi! scene of the early 1980s.

Often claimed as the most important Punk album of all time, this was the first full length by UK Hardcore prime movers Discharge and rightly considered the manifesto for what would be later defined as ‘d-beat’. Originally released on the Clay record label in 1982, this masterpiece gave inspiration to literally hundreds in the extreme metal and hardcore punk areas for the subsequent four decades and its legacy remains invaluable to this day.

Adventurous southern California punk trio Agent Orange was the first band to mix surf rock with punk. The group was formed in1l979 in Placentia, a small town close to Fullerton and Anaheim, by frontman Mike Palm on guitar and lead vocals, Steve Soto on bass and Scott Miller on drums. That early line up recorded the classic version of "Bloodstains" in 1979 as a demo produced by Daniel R. van Patten (of the group Berlin). A year later it was included on the seminal Rodney On The Roq compilation album released by Posh Boy Records. Meanwhile James Levesque had replaced Steve Soto (Adolescents) and the new line up released their own self produced and self released 7" ep in 1980. A year later, the group signed with Robbie Fields' Posh Boy Records for their debut LP Living In Darkness, co-produced by Fields and former Simpletones guitarist Jay Lansford. The album was recorded at Brian Elliott’s store front studio in North Hollywood (a few years before Elliott struck gold writing Madonna’s “Papa Don’t Preach”). ANTI's 1984 God Can't Bounce collects all their tracks from the New Underground's label Life Is... compilation (a California Punk manifesto of sorts which also included, among others, the Descendents, Minutemen, and the Germs), and outtakes from both previous albums, consisting of recordings made in the 1982 and 1983 period. Either intentionally or unwittingly this is a band experimenting with extremes. Formed in 1985 when Thatcherism swooped over England and scalped the North East, Hellbastard admit to being ‘’too metal for punk, too punk for metal’’, instead coining the term ‘’crust’’ as a way to feel at peace within themselves whilst simultaneously starting a sonic war that shocked the nerves into spools of frayed tape. With Malcolm ‘’Scruff’’ Lewty on guitar and vocals, Ian ‘’Scotty’’ Scott on bass and vocals and Phil Laidlow on drums, it was all captured with their classic Ripper Demo debut release in 86’. But really, it's all encapsulated right here with this reissue also containing the follow-up demo-lition from ‘87 - Hate Militia. Both are perfect ways to establish the nightmarish worlds, of death camps and dark sides, that wildly writhe within his group’s menacing worldview.

London-based singer/guitarist Dan Treacy took the Mod sound of the mid-1960s and channelled it in other directions through the Television Personalities, the oddball, on-off group he founded with two friends in 1977. The 1995 solo Treacy effort I Was A Mod Before You Was A Mod veers between the humour of ‘As John Belushi Said’ and ‘Little Woody Allen’ to the angst and self-loathing of ‘A Long Time Gone’ and ‘I Can See My Whole World Crashing Down,’ and there’s the catchy Mod homage of the title track. Tragic, spastic, and wildly fearless, this is one of Treacy’s most personal, vulnerable, and sought-after releases.

By the early 80s punk had become something else compared to what it was when Year Zero stabbed a flag in the sand and established ‘War!’ on boredom and normality. You could argue that in 1982 when Endangered Species arrived...UK Subs were very much that. The vanguard of the second wave. A crucial nook in the subculture. Still alive. Still kicking. Still prowling around the town with their best point yet to be proven. From Ambition, essentially an annihilated bluegrass-skank version of the Stones’ Satisfaction, to Indie Chart hit single Countdown and the atomic sonics of a post punk dub attack in Ice Age, all blistering guitar razors that chime against the night as well as chew it up, it's easy to see both why Charlie Harper considers the group's fifth LP to be their strongest and Guns ‘n’ Roses covered Down on the Farm.

Rare tracks compilation from the legendary UK OI! band the Last Resort featuring tracks recorded between 1980 and 1982 including the tracks from their seminal ‘Violence In Our Minds’ cassette single with Graham Saxby on vocals and their contributions to the national chart compilations “Strength Thru Oi!”, “Carry On Oi!” and “Oi! Oi! That’s Yer Lot”. A major influence on the hardcore and punk scene, the Last Resort are still led by vocalist Roi Pearce to this day and they also feature Rancid guitarist Lars Frederiksen. Dead Kennedys’ incendiary debut still screams some of the most brilliant cynical songs the genre has ever seen. It’s not wholly consistent, but it’s manic, rapid-fire approach retains momentum throughout. It’s an absolute riot: the sound of true rebellion.

Formed in the town of New Mills, Derbyshire in 1980, Oi legends Blitz revitalised the UK punk scene of the era, their incendiary debut Voice Of A Generation a massive commercial success, but the 1983 follow-up Time Empire Justice had a different line-up and new wave orientation, pointing to fissures in the group; then, in 1990, guitarist/multi-instrumentalist Nidge Miller teamed up with former Attack frontman Gary Basnett for The Killing Dream, a studio swansong that revived the name with Nidge fully in control. Devotees will love the sterling guitar work on this final piece of the Blitz jigsaw.

Released in 1983 on London's Legendary Mortarhate label, Conflict's debut broke all rules in punk rock, setting new standards and storming independent charts, reaching and retaining position number 1 for several weeks. Formed in 1981 and led by vocalist Colin Jerwood, who would remain one of the group's few constants throughout its 30 years of existence, and fueled by hatred for the media, the military and the general status quo of late century Thatcher's England, Conflict has been a stainless model for three generation of peace punkers, activists and anarchists from all over the world.

Founded in the northern Italian port city of Ravenna in the summer of 1980, S.I.B. (Swelling Itching Brain) was comprised of former members of new wave covers band R.N.A. Transfert, singer Tracy Crazy a huge UK Subs fan. The band’s scorching live performances drew a loyal following, leading to an approach by L.M. Records, Ravenna’s foremost punk and new wave imprint, to cut Third World War, their sole LP. The band’s sound was a very personal one, with reggae, punk, hardcore and new wave all part of the mix—too varied for an audience strictly loyal to genre boundaries. Unjustly overlooked following the group’s demise, we are pleased to give Third World War the reissue it deserves some 40 years later.

Formed in south London in 1979, punk band The Business became associated with the Oi! movement in the early 1980s, making clear that they were against the extremism sometimes associated with it by staging Oi Against Racism events. Keep The Faith was the comeback album from 1994 that followed a long hiatus, songs like the censorious ‘Maradona’ and the title track showing they’d lost none of their propulsive hardcore power, while the controversial ‘Holiday In Seattle’ referenced the demise of Kurt Cobain. Another great Business disc for the hardcore and Oi! fanatics.

Formed in late 1977 in Darlington, UK, legendary punkers Major Accident were initially influenced by the Pistols and the Clash. A very sad fate befell their early studio activities: both their first recording sessions in 1980, which was supposed to be their debut single (Terrorist Gang/War Boots) and the following one, which produced a completely mucked-up, unusable first edition of this LP, remained unreleased for years. It took until late 1982 for their first proper release to see the light of day: produced by Donkeys guitarist Neil Ferguson, their debut album Massacred Melodies finally came out on Step Forward, supported by a full UK tour with label-mates Chelsea. The distinctive 'Clockwork Orange' image (they were the first punk band to adopt the look from Kubrick's famous movie, which was banned in the UK at the time and impossible to see anywhere) and their song writing, by far more peculiar than the average Uk82 punk band, allowed them to grow a sizable following, and their classic sleeve artwork by Paul Dillon started appearing on the back of more than a few black leather jackets.

Bristol new wave quartet the Numbers formed in 1977 with vocalist/rhythm guitarist Nick McAuley, bassist Wayne Kingston, drummer Lee Gardener and future Massive Attack guitarist Angelo Bruschini. Heavily influenced by Bowie’s Berlin trilogy, early recordings surfaced on compilations issued by the local Heartbeat label in 1979, namely the power- punk-pop ‘Alternative Suicide’ on 4 Alternatives and the funked-up ‘Cross Slide’ on Avon Calling. This excellent compilation pairs those songs with unreleased demos, giving us the complete picture of a band far ahead of their time, with Bruschini already on dazzling form.

Swedish punk began in the late ‘70s and by the mid-‘80s, the small steel mill town of Fagersta had seven bands, immortalised on rare compilation The Vikings Are Coming, which is surprisingly diverse: Bizarr’s old-school punk is influenced by the Clash and SLF; Cruel Maniacs give social criticism and Crude SS’s hardcoredraws on Discharge; Rescues In Future’s speedcore is super melodic, influenced by Husker Du; Fear of War’s thrash is anti-religious and there’s more thrash from Bedrovlerz (or ‘Miserablerz’), while Ugly Squaw proffer unique power-punk humour (also making an incognito faux-reggae appearance as Rasta Boys). This edition revives the ori- ginal Swedish version released on Uproar Records in l985, giving us the full monty of this must-have anthology.

After the chart-topping debut City Baby Attacked By Rats, Birmingham ‘uk82’ punk pioneers Charged G.B.H. cut City Baby’s Revenge, their second release for Clay Records, and even though a mere year had passed, City Baby’s Revenge showed significant progression, Jock’s guitar more obviously inspired by metal, the lyrics more explicit and the sound even rawer than before. With a cool take of the Stooges’ ‘I Feel Alright’ and the reggae/rockabilly-esque ‘Skanga,’ this acclaimed winner is the LP that broke the band in the USA and is arguably the best they ever recorded required listening for the band’s devotees and all fans of metal-edged hardcore.

Now available on cassette, Thrash Zone is the fifth album by the American thrash metal pioneers D.R.I.. Released in 1989, produced by the legendary Bill Metoyer (Slayer). Considered to be the D.R.I.'s most successful album to date selling upwards of 250,000 albums worldwide. Thrash Zone continues to resonate with each new generation of thrash metal fans.

At its purest, there is little that can match the visceral thrill and empowering spirit of hardcore. As front-man of New York City hardcore kings Cro-Mags, this is something John Joseph knows very well, and with Up In Arms, he and his Bloodclot compatriots deliver a furious collection that hits hard on every level. "In this band we're doing what each of us have always done: give it our all," he states plainly. "We work hard, and we have a lot to say. Look around the planet - people are fed up with the corrupt ruling class. They destroy the planet and kill millions for profit, and the formula for our response is simple: Anger + applied knowledge = results. Don't just bitch. Change it." The results reflect the roots and passions of the individual members. Danzig/Murphy's Law guitarist Todd Youth was the first piece of the puzzle. "We've always talked about doing this record together, Todd had songs written and I had notebooks full of lyrics. In late September 2015, I went out to LA to do a triathlon and injured my calf muscle, so I couldn't race, and Todd said he could get some studio time. So, we went in and cut the demo. While there are things we may perceive as a negative in our lives, in fact the universe has a bigger plan, and that experience ultimately resulted in the record." Having been friends with Queens Of The Stone Age and Danzig powerhouse drummer Joey Castillo for three decades, the two musicians had long admired each other's work, and their collaboration has been a long time coming. Following Castillo's suggestion of bringing in Nick Oliveri (Queens Of The Stone Age/The Dwarves) to handle bass duties, the lineup was complete. The songs that comprise Up In Arms manifested after the quartet plugged in and let the music speak for them. "We didn't decide to try to play anything, these are the songs that happened when we started jamming, and I love this band because there are no egos involved. Our goal is to make the best music possible, period. I love it when those guys contribute with melodies, etc., and I've even helped with some of the arrangements. Because we all think alike, our lyrics deal with the issues of the day, and that makes for better songs." Every track on Up In Arms lives up to the rallying cry of the album's title - the bursts of high energy hardcore act as the perfect accompaniment to Joseph setting his sights on injustice and the seemingly endless flaws of the contemporary world. The breakneck thrashing of "Slow Kill Genocide" is an anthem for everyone sickened by those responsible for "killing the planet and all its inhabitants through industry and war. They're fucking maniacs and must be stopped." The suitably titled "Manic" attacks with bared fangs, Joseph making it clear that you can only push someone so far before they will react with violence - a call to arms for the disenfranchised who want tomorrow's world to be better than today's. Tracked at NRG in Los Angeles, the raw, old-school production that leaps out from the speaker comes courtesy of producer Zeuss (Hatebreed, Revocation), and the record was mixed by Kyle McAulay at NRG. From the moment the opening title track explodes to life, it's clear that everyone involved is having a blast and playing from the heart, and that this is no frills / no bullshit music at its most passionate - every song evoking mental images of utter chaos in a heaving mosh pit. For anyone approaching the album for the first time, Joseph has only this to say: "Turn the volume way the fuck up!" And with plans to tour everywhere, Bloodclot will be getting in a lot of faces in 2017 and beyond. "We are already writing material and the next album is in the works. Formed in Fullerton, CA in 1978, Social Distortion were one of the original LA punk groups and their first single was released on legendary LA punk label Posh Boy. But far more rare than that first single ("Mainliner" b/w "Playpen") is the unreleased EP Posh Boy's Little Monsters. This EP only made it to the test pressing stage back in 1981, and featured those two tracks from the first single along with "All The Answers" and "Justice For All." This is the absolute holy grail for Social Distortion fans and it's finally available in commercial form on two limited edition pressings for RSD 2019, black vinyl available worldwide and a Europe only red vinyl limited edition. “Of the 3 teenagers who recorded for me, one has died, another was believed to be dead and one became immensely wealthy from playing music. The one who did hard time in prison was not Mike Ness. It was the drummer Carrot, better known as John Stevenson, now living a very ordinary life in rural Florida.
I now count John as a dear friend. Apparently, he was only l6 years old when he rolled into the studio that day in April l98l, armed with a taped up pair of drumsticks. He played great as did both Mike and Dennis (RIP). This time there was no fighting in the studio over production values. I had promised Ness that we would not fight so once there was a minor disagreement over the artwork for the proposed l2", I dropped the project in favor of the Playpen/Mainliner 7" which sported iconic artwork from the band.”

Hailing from Antwerp, Belgium, The Kids formed in 1976 to prove to the world that punk was more than just a London vs New York fashion contest. Originally released on the Philips label in 1978, and highly acclaimed as one of the best punk records Ever, The Kids' debut album is now reissued on vinyl, with two bonus tracks recorded in 1977. Pioneering Dutch punk band, the Squats, was one of the first to emerge from the underground of late 1970s Nijmegen. The core of the group morphed into Oi! band the Magnificent, and after a shared cassette with Angelic Upstarts and tracks on early Oi! compilations, an augmented Magnificent cut quality debut, Hit And Run, released by Link in 1988, which captures the band at their tightest. Danish psychobilly trio Nekromantix formed in Copenhagen in 1989, melding heavy metal and some Goth underpinnings in their style. After a well-received debut via Tombstone, the band reached greater heights with Curse Of The Coffin for Nervous Records, perceptively produced by Micky Mutant of Meteors fame. With frontman Kim Gaarde playing a coffin-shaped bass, Pete Sandorff shredding speed-metal riffs on his guitar and drummer Peek never letting the pace drop below feverish, Curse Of The Coffin is a wild ride that redefined the psychobilly genre, making Nekromantix leading lights of the second wave. A true killer!
