Just in time for Halloween. Zombina and the Skeletones are returning from the dead to bring you their first full-length album in ten years ‘The Call of Zombina’.

The Band Under Your BedTM returned to the studio (or in this case a creepy old church in Liverpool) to make their first album in ten years, with Stephen Cole from the avant garde “post-music” act a.P.At.T producing. ‘The Call Of Zombina’ is Hammer Horror melodrama as art-therapy, the pank roots of goth-rock meets the strings and harpsichords of baroque.

‘The Call Of Zombina’ seeks to mirror the clamic portmantean horror of ‘The House That Dripped Blood’ or ‘Asylum’, with each track telling its own self-contained story. Musically it’s death rock/ baroque, Joe Meek and James Bernard meets The Damned uptown. Lyrically, the schlocky Americanistas of old have been eschewed in favour of the no less pulpy vernacu lar of Pan Classics paperbacks... and of course the whole thing was recorded in an old spooky church, to captare some of that creaky atmosphere and gigantic reverb.

Liverpool post-punk pioneers The Room are back with a new album. Theirs is a melodic blend of progressive, alternative pop and sultry post-punk, which is just as fresh and relevant now as it was when they first broke up in 1985. Firm favourites of the late, great John Peel; they have been compared to Joy Division, The Fall and fellow Liverpool band Echo & the Bunnymen.

Following 2023’s warmly recieved ‘Restless Fate’ is new album ‘The Telling’. Consisting of 11 songs that tell a continuous folk-horror story set in a mythical 17th-century European forest. A traveling storyteller mesmerizes an isolated village with macabre tales of wonder, mystery, and the supernatural. The idea was conceived as an aural movie told in self-contained songs that represent chapters in a complete narrative and has no lyrical choruses that repeat its themes. The album comes with a full lyric sheet influenced by the layout of the Guttenberg Bible. Frontman and lyricist Dave Jackson’s interest in folklore and myths is absolutely apparent, the story is effortlessly conveyed through his spirited yet acerbic vocals. The album features: the welcome return of original The Room drummer Clive Thomas and his fluid open-handed drumming; the haunting backing vocals of Helena Jacks; founder-member Becky Stringer (bass guitar); Ethan Kyme (keyboards); Darren Brown (guitar). A magical sonic adventure for fans of 80s post-punk and folk-horror aesthetics.

Formed in the mid 80’s, signed to Arista/BMG, releasing one record and playing their last show for 30 years in 1990, 16 Tambourines burnt bright in a short period of time. Fans and the band themselves have longed for a follow up to the glorious ‘How Green Is Your Valley?’ for over 3 decades, and it is finally upon us. ‘All Men Are Fools’ is the sophomore release 32 years in the making. Created in parts through lockdown, recorded, mixed and mastered post lockdown by original members Steve Roberts, Tony Elliott, Tony McGuigan, David Oliver and Susan Bailey, along with some musician friends. The album is upbeat, sharp, witty and at points scathing. A defiance embodied in the seemingly eternal, joyous struggle to create this body of work. It is described by Steve as Mod, New Wave, Pop & Soul with a couple of jazz chords, just how the band wanted it. The title of the album, ‘All Men Are Fools’ was the first song Steve wrote specifically for the retooled, remodelled 16 Tambourines, reflecting on a talk with his daughter about boyfriends and why men are as they are.

Nigel the Gannet is the true story of a gannet in New Zealand, who briefly became an international media star when he died of old age next to the concrete decoy gannet he had chosen as his mate. Though the press spun his story as a lonely one, the song celebrates Nigel’s choice of solitude over social life, suggesting that he knew the difference between being lonely and being alone all along. Comes with a postcard.. of which 1 in 5 wil lbe signed by Mathias. • For the B side, The Burning Hell took a crack at a cover of the excellent Half Man Half Biscuit song Lark Descending, recorded outside in the woods of Eastern Canada with the help of a solar-powered recording studio trailer. • The Burning Hell is the songwriting project of Mathias Kom, particularly known for their literate—often literary—and humorous lyrics. Theirs is a diverse yet distinctive brand of DIY Indie Pop. • Over a varied musical career, The Burning Hell have often remained idiosyncratic and unclassifiable, much to the delight of those who love them. Although musical style and influence differs from record to record, and song to song, the constant has always remained Kom’s singular outlook on the world: wise and naive, cynical and life-affirming, full of brilliant, unexpected narratives and a deeply felt generosity of spirit. The band’s live performances underscore these themes: they exhibit a joy and camaraderie too infrequently seen on stage. Kelley Stoltz's track for track covers album of Echo and the Bunnymen's 'Crocodiles' will be available for the first time on vinyl this Record Store Day courtesey of Nine x Nixe Records. Originally recorded in late 2001, the album was not released until 2006 and was only available on CD (Orignally a TOUR ONLY CD via Beautiful Happiness).Stoltz took up the mantle of rhythm guitar in the Bunnymen's live set up in 2016, after a few high profile state-side support slots won largely because of this album. Pressed on 180g Color Vinyl, with original artwork and new sleeve notes from Bunnymen guitarist Will Sergeant and Scott Kannberg (Pavement), there's never been a better time to discover this gem from Stoltz's back catalogue. REMASTERED BY MIKEY YOUNG -Bonus 7" E.P.features 3 early demos of 14 year old Kelley's band .These are the earliest known recordings of Stoltz's Bunnymen covers.

Nick Garrie was an unknown backpacker until his music was discovered in the late ’60s while busking in the South of France. Recognising his talent, work on a collection of recordings followed which would culminate in his legendary debut album The Nightmare of J.B. Stanislas. Set to be released in 1969 on the influential French label Disc’Az, however due to the suicide of the label’s founder, Lucien Morisse, shortly before the album’s release date, only about 100 copies of this psych pop/soft rock masterpiece came into circulation. It became a cult album in the truest sense and was finally reissued almost 40 years later. With the death of Morisse, Nick took some time away from recording only to return under an alias, writing with Oscar and Golden Globe winning composer Francis Lai. His directory of credits only grew as he worked with Paul Samwell-Smith (The Yardbirds), Alun Davies (Cat Stevens’ Band), drummer Gerry Conway and Leonard Cohen. Nick Garrie grew his audience in Europe, penning an album that would top the charts in Spain. In 2005 the album The Nightmare of J.B Stanislas was reissued, achieving critical acclaim from The Independent, BBC & Record Collector. Nick’s resurgence combined with fascination of his back story led to a new generation of music fans and musicians appreciating Garrie’s work. In this tim he was collaborated with the likes of Duglas T. Stewart (bmx Bandits) Norman Blake and Francis McDonald (Teenage Fanclub) and Gary Olson (The Ladybug Transistor). Now, for the first time ever, the classic title track is to be released as a 7” single. It is also the first ever vinyl release of Nick’s work on a UK label. The B side is a song close to Nick’s heart Around the World. This track was also written in the ’60s but had never been recorded before. It was recorded at Nick’s home in late 2023 with the help of fellow 9X9 recording artist Jamie Whelligan and musician/producer Nick Frater.

Novelty Island follow up their stunning debut How Are You Coping With This Century? with Wallsend Weekend Television via Nine x Nine Records. Novelty Island is the bizarre-pop project of Liverpool-based songwriter / producer, Tom McConnell. Wallsend Weekend Television is an album that has been a long time coming. The tracks that appear on it serve up as an almost best of McConnell’s musical career so far. In 2018 he made the ultimate pilgrimage from his native north to Abbey Road Institute with over numerous songs from various projects in hand. This is where Novelty Island was born, inspired by classic pop, woozy electronica and northern wordplay. McConnell would record in session at Damon Albarn’s Studio 13 and in Abbey Road Studios 2 and 3, where students at the Institute had to make notes on recording techniques. This gave McConnell the freedom to explore and create the album. Whittled down from 80 songs and an almost infinite combination of track listings, it has driven him mad at many points.
