Emergent polymath Brother Aten makes his first outing on Bruk with an icy slice of system-ready minimalism, guided by the cooly detached voice of Ze R. Taking cues from cult sci-fi and early 80s no wave, Fragmented Dystopia is a crystal clear statement trimmed of all unnecessary baggage. The title spells out the mood — Aten's soundscapes are stark and synthetic machine mantras punched out on outboard instruments navigating gritty, futuristic zones. On 'Unavailable' steadily humming drones shape the space in which Ze R. hovers, initially delivering a deadpan denial before their humanity sneaks in as the track snakes through an intricate lattice of crisp digital percussion. Short and razor-sharp two-parter 'Fragmented Dystopia' finds an even sparser corner to occupy within Aten's subtly cyberpunk vision, where Ze R.'s scattered words cut a measured figure delivered at acute angles before breaking into wilder forms at the end of Part 2.

Originally from Brooklyn and now based in Berlin, Brother Aten has been weaving a fascinating tapestry of audio and visual work as MAF. His artwork examines the fraught relationship between technology and society. Ze R. explores dimensions of sexuality, subjectivity and individualism through writing, performance and community organisation.

Bruk welcomes the daring shapes and inquisitive textures of Ellll for her debut album, Earth
Rotation. Across 13 scuffed cuts and grubby miniatures the Irish producer shapes out a distinctive
sound world, steeped in sample science and powered by low-slung grooves.

There's no direct message permeating Earth Rotation, but burning issues around embattled
ecosystems hang in the air as Ellll pushes her sound palette until it bites. Extended instrumental
techniques lend the album an in-the-room tangibility, while dislocated micro-loops speak to less
grounded atmospheres. Starting from densely packed collages and diligently chipping away until
spacious, head-knocking arrangements remain, the end results of Ellll's process call to mind the
wayward sample acrobatics that made trip-hop and jungle so emotionally resonant and eerily alien
in the same beat. There's rarely anything like conventional boom-bap or a cosily familiar break, but
Ellll finds compelling rhythms in unlikely sources of funk, whether plucked, bowed, sequenced
or sculpted. Even when teetering towards techno on 'Titan', her particular approach is gloriously
skewed and, by extension, innovative.

No matter how serious the techniques involved, Earth Rotation is a celebration of the magic that
happens when sound gets mistreated. If there are foreboding ideas lingering in the album's
tendency towards dissonance, Ellll also knows how to inject her work with a necessary mischief,
making her a perfect fit amongst the maverick Bruk alumni.

The next transmission from planet Bruk comes courtesy of Lårry, an enigmatic artist ploughing an individualist furrow through various fields of electronic expression, one hand tweaking the tiller and the other casually dismissing the rules of rave.

You might have caught their sharply-pointed sound on Super Hexagon or Awkwardly Social, or
perhaps stumbled across their fabled 2021 live performance from Fitzroy in Berlin, or even
unconsciously swayed to something spun in a set any time over the past five years. Lårry's
discography is modest but mighty, and How Was That For You builds into that idea with four
precise tools for forward-leaning soundsystem communion.

From the fractalised barbs of electronica stepper 'In Water' to patiently dread-eyed wobbler
'Angela's Knife', 'Uniform Uninform's icy incisions to the snaking spiral staircase of 'Yargachin', this is brain fodder first and foremost, with bassweight impact threaded through as an added bonus. Keeping fine company amongst the other oddities inhabiting the Bruk mandate, Lårry continues to keep us on our toes, literally and figuratively.

Finding a rich seam in stark minimalism, soundsystem pressure and fractalised rhythm, Cassius Select is at the vanguard of contemporary broken beats and punishing low end.

This new Select transmission comes correct on Bruk, prodding at the same bold dance futurism already laid down by Siete Catorce and FFT, whilst sounding nothing like either of them. 'Dread Percent's swelling pads and dislocated MC shards are a foil for the ruff angles of 'Fish Tek'. 'Mess Mutual' teases and stalks at a lower tempo and then twists up another set of bars over a bed of alien drone, laying the groundwork for the massive, grime-licked hooks of 'Shake Like Me'.

Hinting at the anthemic while remaining steadfastly cool and deadly, Cassius Select's mutant brand of club has the space and versatility to slip between scenes, doing damage wherever it lands.

Mexican producer Siete Catorce treads the line of experimental club masterfully, drawing influence from Latin American styles and futuristic techno abstractions. Catorce has released on imprints such as Nostro Hood System, Naafi and Hypermedium as well as launching his own label Subreal in 2019 with collaborator Amazondotcom, on which they have released two EP's traversing deconstructed club. His new EP 'Temperatura' is a masterful exploration into club hybridity.

For the A-side, opener 'Todo' is straight-up otherworldly techno, combining fluctuating mutant birdsong and dub tones that center around unrelenting polyrhythms, whilst 'Derretido' flourishes industrial clangs with deviant frequencies. The B-side spirals on full-blown psychedelia into an unpredictable space between experimental tech and bass. 'Menos's extraterrestrial synth-work and blurred edges sound like a stripped-down early dub hybrid. 'Tu' featuring collaborator Biuddha employs smoky field recordings atop a shuffling post-dubstep heartbeat and euphoric snares. Combining fractured sound design with indisputable rhythm, this release is a formidable and unique addition to the experimental club bracket.

Utilising a mammoth bank of saxophone samples, Shmuel Hatchwellpresents his new alias hoyah with an engrossing album captured in tape and digital form on Bruk. The process leading to Set + Setting started out with a need for limitations to provide some focus for long-serving sound engineer and producer Hatchwell. He set out the following guidelines to accompany the overarching idea of 'set + setting': No 'beats' Saxophones are the voice Stay away from the computer for as long as possible Hatchwell took a deep dive in search of every saxophone sample he could find, threw them all into his MPC and then proceeded to weave together a variety of pieces. The focus on a particular instrument brings cohesion to the album, but equally the limited sound inspired freedom to experiment with other techniques and tools. At times one or two sax voices sound naked and undisturbed, while elsewhere you might only hear jagged shards or distant ghosts as they pass through aggravated processing. Beyond the sound itself, the name hoyah was born with the flippancy of the 21st Century and ratified by ancient tradition. After the music had been made, After the music had been made, Hatchwell plucked the name out of thin air as a play on the TikTok meme 'can I get a hoya,' and subsequently discovered on a dive into his Jewish heritage that in old Hebrew hoyah means, 'to be, become, come to pass, exist, happen, fall out.' This distinction between Jewish concepts and modern political conflations is important to Hatchwell, who finds himself consistently having to separate Judaism from the situation in the Middle East and its ongoing genocide. Subtly calling to mind the understated cosiness of real-life sax players like Sam Gendel as well as the fragmented sample manipulation of Matmos and Tim Hecker's approach to processed noise, hoyah's debut album absolutely manifests an idea and musical practice as something new and intentional

Keeping the possibilities for Brukkage reliably wide as we enter the album sphere, we're proud to present a heavyweight long player from Japanese maverick Kohei Matsunaga, aka NHK yx Koyxen.

Keeping up with Matsunaga's past work requires a diligent detective, mangling his aliases like he mangles his sound but always coming up with provocative, rave re-arranging goods for labels like Diagonal, DFA, Pan, L.I.E.S. and right back to Mille Plateaux, WordSound, Important and Skam. If that sounds like a lot of name-dropping, it's simply to paint the picture of a long-serving polymath whose wares can attract the most critical ears, and as such it's a privilege to release a new album of his works.

On this new record he brings that unmistakable flair to a towering 13 tracks of side-swerving dance abstraction. From airlock electro reveries and music box malfunctions to blunted beatdowns thrown down dusty corridors, this album splits the difference between a suite of full-blown productions and the sketch-pad sonics of a mixtape. The hip-hop influence looms large, but it's pinged through oscillators oscillating at freak-frequencies and interrupted by creaky gates in need of a good oiling, upended by slippery pools of sonic interference. Consistently sick and never stalling, this is everything we needed from an album on Bruk, even if never could have predicted goods as cracked and precious as this.
