Kedr Livanskiy's second album, Your Need, is a celebration of life and rebirth. It's about a fighter's spirit, and if you will, a little audacity and courage. DJ'ing and early forms of dance music inspired a furious burst of creative energy after months of melancholy, sadness and reflection to record the album in only a matter of weeks. After her first album, Ariadna, Kedr felt lost with her identity and was searching for the direction of her next chapter. For a while she felt trapped by her own image and needed quite some time to resolve this internal dissonance - to grow, to evolve.DJ'ing was the main catalyst to pull her out of this rut. The art form shifted her inspiration to mainly old school styles of dance music: ghetto, house, breakbeat and UK garage. For the prior year and a half she was listening to ambient, kraut-rock and more experimental genres - one can hear the brighter, more energetic influence of early electronic music in the songs on Your Need versus Ariadna. One day she was talking with her friend Flaty (Zhenya), a very talented artist from St. Petersburg who's signed to the GOST ZVUK label, and they decided to do a single together. He came to visit her in Moscow, but they ended up spending 10 whole days writing music together, from dawn to dusk. They vibed off each other's musical ideas perfectly and understood each other even without speaking. Zhenya is a beatmaster and pays attention to even the smallest details of a track. He brought incredible richness to the composition and Kedr considers him her teacher in this area. Kedr was in charge of the melodies and vibe of the tracks, and the vocal elements.Your Need is like a chapter of life. It's a story that illustrates different scenarios and moods that our mythical hero experiences, living in an urban jungle. From lost love to a bad trip on the dancefloor, from euphoria to deep introspection. Our hero sometimes feels bold, lost or devastated, but also tender and full, like all of us at some point in life. The ending is joyful and bright. The...

Who would've thought one of the first female skateboarders and a psych rock singer would spawn a house music prodigy? If you've seen RA's Real Scenes LA docko, then you might've noticed Sage casually rolling some 'herbs' while being interviewed, so maybe it's not hard to fathom after all... These tracks are not one bit spaced out though, they're all sharp, layered, banging house tracks. Like his previous EPs on Spring Theory and Huxley's No Idea's Original, Sage somehow manages to keep things exciting while using very traditional house structures. I guess it's all in the detail.Pressing limited to 300 copies, hand-stamped.

Acclaimed Italian pair Deardrums, aka Bottin and Leo di Angilla, proudly present their adventurous debut album on 2MR. The 13 track LP is a continuation of their analogue heavy and inventive synth style as showcased on their EP’s to date which have received support from the likes of Laurent Garnier & Chloe and covers plenty of musical ground with great aplomb. African influences, tin pot percussion and scorched synths all bring a real sense of savannah heat to proceedings on cuts like ‘Mami Wata’ and there is a sense of tribalism in the tightly programmed drums and claps of ‘Mayan Machine’ that really stands this one apart. Authentic and unique throughout, this is a brilliant LP that is hard to categorise but easy to love thanks to its constant evolution and wide sphere of sonic influences

These are two alternate versions of two of the more popular tracks from Pale Blue’s LP, The Past We Leave Behind. The record was a slow burn, but eventually One Last Thing became the sleeper track. It has been on playlists from the likes of Seth Troxler, Pachanga Boys and John Talabot. It seems to have become one of the more popular closing tracks this year. With that in mind, Mike decided to turn it on its head and turn it in to an opening track… Distance To The Waves was tweaked into an acid floor filler. Simonetti uses multiple 303’s chained to add melody at the most unexpected places. We also stuck the original versions on the vinyl as well for extra pleasure.

"Gel Set = Chris & Cosey x Throbbing Gristle + Chromatics. Gel Set skirts mutant
funk, spaced out, janky beats and mechanical darkwave, but what seals the deal is
her compelling ability to spin us into a grooving trance and keep us moving." - Slug
Mag Laura came across the phrase Body Copy while using some now forgotten
freeware at a now forgotten job that didn't want to pay for the name brand goods.
"What is the content of your body's copy?" she asks you to ask yourself. Gel Set is
the art that Callier makes in her noisy bedroom, currently in Koreatown, LA.
When asked her influences, she says "I like crunchy, hard electronic music that
sounds like it was made by someone who is growing mushrooms on their person,"
whatever that means, and she says she loves the raw emotion of Karen Dalton, the
abstract story telling and dissonance of late Scott Walker, the synthesis of Mort
Garson and Tangerine Dream, the heavy sounds of Hogg, and she's ever flattered
by comparisons to Chris and Cosey. She says she also loves music with a pop
sensibility, from Erasure to Jessy Lanza. TL;DR, the hard facts: She's a multimedia
artist. She plays in several bands besides Gel Set (her solo project). Simulation is a
dreamy psychedelic elect ronic duo with Whitney Johnson from Matchess, E+, and
Verma. Athleisure is a duo with video artist Jason Ogawa from Tarnation. God Vol
1 is a duo with visual artist Nicole Ginelli.

The album features unreleased tracks from Cringe Machine as well as a TWINS remix of Love Letters' contribution Nag. Harsh Riddims started a few years back. Our first release was a compilation tape featuring some of my best friends. Stefan Ringer (REKchampa), Drew Briggs (Divine Interface), and Matt Weiner (TWINS) live here in Atlanta. They are among the most talented and encouraging individuals I know. B L A C K I E is good friends with Negashi Armada (Bluntfang). Negashi suggested asking him for a track, and he turned in "It's hot livin n' tha south". That's one of my favourite tracks off of the first compilation. About a year ago, we released the second comp. This record is a mix of the two, featuring a few unreleased tracks. I met RAMZI while on tour in Montreal. Love Letters is my friend Maxime Robillard, who lives in New York City. ThinkThrice is a kid in Atlanta that ordered one of Stefan's tapes. We later met at a house party: I'm pretty psyched he's got a track on here! WGM is Gavin Mays out of Memphis. He also produces as Cities Aviv. Cringe Machine is my good friend Justin Bauman. He passed away not too long ago, so I feel really fortunate to be able to share one of his songs. He was a big influence on me, and was overall a really sweet and giving person. Much love towards his family! Lastly, Co/Coaches is one half of Coco and Clair, Taylor Nave. She's such a talented song writer, buck performer; she's one my favorites. Hope you dig!

Two deep minimal acid tweakers with guest vocals by Santana from the French group Claap! It’s rare to hear an acid track with vocals these days. There’s also a Claap! remix thrown on for good measure, and they take the song in a totally different direction.

Agony Planet is an unrelenting and bold debut from a trio not afraid to explore the dark caverns of the underground.
Fantasy Techno collective Dust - a trio comprised of audio engineer Michael Sherburn, DIY nightlife entrepreneur John Barclay and multi-disciplinary artist Greem Jellyfish - will release their nightmarish, alien horror narrative debut full length, Agony Planet, January 22nd on Mike Simonetti’s new 2MR imprint.
Immersed in Brooklyn’s DIY rave community, all three mem- bers held roles in the genesis of notable extinct venues 285 Kent and Trip House, and now Bossa Nova Civic Club. In 2012 Sherburn and Barclay joined forces to found DUST and were joined shortly thereafter by Jellyfish; the following year they released their first 12”, “Onset of Decimation,” on Man- nequin. Between 2013 and 2015, they released several more 12”s, two on Mannequin, as well as one for Sci-Fi & Fantasy and one for 2MR.
Over these years, with Sherburn at the helm, the framework and themes for Agony Planet began to be conceptualized. Twelve tracks, spanning in genre from digital hardcore, dun- geon techno, and celestial ambience, are all held together by a theme of extravagant extraterrestrial warfare. Club-savvy techno engineering accompanied by frontwoman Greem Jellyfish’s bizarre monologues and warped screams beckon listeners on a journey through the occult mysticism of the nightmarish and torturous deep ocean of an alien hell.

None of the Above aka N/O/T/A is an escape from reality plan. Made in between London and Toronto, it joins Dinamo Azari (AZARI & III) and Mixhell's Laima Leyton and Iggor Cavalera (SEPULTURA). Eager to collaborate and make music in a non compromised way, the trio brought together live and electronic drum beats, strong bass lines, unexpected samples and dark synths to an unknown place. It is none of the genres we are listening to nowadays but it still brings together a live feeling of techno, industrial and acid.

Buried under layers of blankets, attempting to sleep in -45 degree wind chill, TWINS' Matt Weiner was shivering on the couch in mix-engineer Jeremiah Meece's living room. He'd already named his record `New Cold Dream' before traveling to Chicago on the coldest day since 1985 to mix down the recordings; the fact that the city was in the midst of a polar vortex when he arrived was just a bit of cosmic irony. Still, this frosty scene is a perfect microcosm for the album itself - New Cold Dream is, in his words, about "staying warm in a cold world."Though TWINS' sound has always drawn on synth-pop, his second lp takes the `80s influence a step further, interpreting our current climate of fear and uncertainty as a direct result of the economic policies set into motion during the Reagan/Thatcher era. The conditions under which New Cold Dreamwas created serve as evidence that the New Gold Dream that Simple Minds were singing about in 1982 has coalesced into something much darker. In the 21st century, the idea of the "American Dream" has been replaced by a cold new frontier. If life in America is a new sort of Wild West, then Weiner is its gothic cowboy chronicler, staring into the vast expanse of rising inequality, social stratification and environmental collapse.Still, NCD isn't a pessimistic record - Weiner seeks to embrace the unforgiving nature of these realities. Balancing our optimism with cynicism, oscillating between hot and cold. This duality can be heard throughout the record - from the foreboding refrain of "Slow Decline" to the sublime choral tones of "Misuse." Ominous, industrial beats offset dreamy synth melodies, while Weiner's fervid vocals reconcile tensions throughout. New Cold Dream is a thoughtful yet heartfelt amalgamation of dark electro, synth pop, and industrial dance music. "Lie Awake," an irresistibly classic dark-electro song underpinned by an infectious dance beat, embodies this balance perfectly. Past influences abound - from John Maus to Bauhaus, from Suicide to Depeche Mode - but this r...

"Less thought, more direction and purpose, less catering, more expression_" This was Savile's mantra as he sculpted his `Compersion' EP for us and it's a mantra we should all subscribe to. It's come about through his introspective analysis during the creation of his most succinct and starkest exploration date."'Compersion' is a record about wrestling my own beliefs, both personal and political. It's about experiencing the anxiety and absurdity of loving a partner and ultimately myself. The sounds, tempos and arrangements found here are the result of further experiments with editing tracks to their absolute minimum. I tried to work these songs like I am working on me. Less thought, more direction and purpose, less catering, more expression." And more detail; throughout every stripped back heavily-edited sensation the conceptual EP provides, the meaning and message is palpable. Each track title inspired by Jenny Holzer and Helmut Lang's revolutionary provocative, sexualisation of the art space in Florence Biennale, 1996, there's a tangible physicality felt throughout_The heavy breathing rhythmic elements of the electroid `Talk Smile Bite' and its bedrock bedspring funk; the playful switch between breezy broken beats and driving techno coupled with minimal sample craft and literal message of an instantly recognisable vocal on `Watch Scan Wait'; the much heavier, intense techno pressure of `Tease Breathe Smell' where the heart is on the sleeve and it's palpitating wildly with direction, purpose and true expression.A smart concept from a Smart resident, Savile has achieved something special here; a provocative model a deep self-construction and, above all, three damn fine pieces of techno.

DUST is an international, amorphous, conceptual techno project known for futuristic acid compositions and noisy, immersive live performances. The collective is currently anchored by audio engineer Michael Sherburn and John Barclay, who is most well known for his founding roles in Brooklyn techno venues Bossa Nova Civic Club, 285 Kent and Trip House, and fronted by Korean visual & noise artist Greem Jellyfish.Founded in 2012, DUST performed their first live show alongside Gatekeeper and Teengirl Fantasy in Chicago and has since performed and/or DJed across Europe and North America with Light Asylum, Adam X, Kim Ann Foxman, Phuture, DJ Pierre, Xeno & Oaklander, RRose and Xosar, amongst others. Perhaps the most notable element of the live aspect is Greem Jellyfish, whose heavily processed screaming and flamboyant costumes often erupt crowds into techno riots.

Voted DJ Mag's Underground Hero in 2022, DJ & producerLauren Flaxhas been a fixture inBrooklyn's electronic scene for two decades. On her latest projectLiz & Lauren EP, she teams upwithLiz Wightof shoegaze techno duo Pale Blue, whose sultry vocals explore questions of loveand isolation to the tune of Detroit house and acidic techno.Flax and Wight became fast friends in 2021 after being introduced by Pale Blue member & 2MRco-founderMike Simonetti, who'd enlisted Flax to remix Pale Blue's "Breathe." Naturally, whenFlax needed a vocalist for some tracks she was working on shortly after, she knew just who to call."I was in my last year of grad school doing an internship in community mental health helping kidscope with the trauma of the pandemic," Wight says of the time. She channeled this experience asshe wrote and recorded the lyrics to Liz & Lauren EP from her home in Los Angeles. As a result, the lyrics on Liz & Lauren EP are open-ended musings on connection, isolation, andconvention. Lead single "Fix Everything" can be read both as an indictment of the trappingsof marriage or, on Flax's view, a rousing call to action, applicable to issues ranging from thedegradation of the environment to the attack on LGBTQ+ rights in America. As the EP progresses,Wight's airy vocals consider the pitfalls of love, from the destructive power of infatuation to thepain of outgrowing a relationship.

Ryan Parks aka FIT OF BODY is a true multihyphenate as a mix-media artist, solo song auteur, and CEO of the critically robust cassette tape label, HARSH RIDDIMS. He reunites with label 2MR to deliver a celebration of the halfway point between the after-party and the house. Between last night and the morning after. The late-night phone call asking a friend, "Are you here? I just pulled up," as he says on "In Spirit Of".On the title song, "Far from the Rhythm", he says "I'm over it" almost in playful contrast to the lighthearted neo-new romantics-esque backing track. This declaration is only made sense by the "it's all good in the end" outro chant which plays into the track's triumphant feel. FAR FROM THE RHYTHM, as a whole, mines the reflective chasm that hopefully befalls one as they approach peak adulthood (the first of many peaks probably). A whirl of divine detachment (but not cynicism!).At the start of the musical incarnation of Fit of Body/Harsh Riddims, Ryan once told a friend that he felt somewhat disconnected from the affairs and feelings of others due to the abundance of time he spent alone enveloped in books. FAR FROM THE RHYTHM is a reflection of him having been proverbially "OUTSIDE" for a decade now and finding a balance in his boundaries, intimacy, and social orbits. Now, one can safely say that Ryan has been fully immersed in the world. With almost an army reserve level of skate tours, random backing DJ gigs for his popstar homegirls, and a continued energetic and chronal investment in his family, musical colleagues, girlfriends, and elders, the distance has been closed.Ryan has been on a nondenominational rumspringa of sorts over the last decade. Now, fully immersed in the world, he has achieved his perfect cruising altitude above it all. Or at least for now, he has. This has been the process of the thoughtful loner and young hierophant integrating into the village. Learning to know when to seek the solitude that was once his whole kingdom and conversely learning when to let the lig...
