Founded by David Keyte, Universal Works introduced its first collection in 2009. Universal Works designs are inspired by growing up in a provincial Midlands town in the seventies, his family’s working-class origins as well as eighties sports plus music subcultures. Plus, David used to work alongside some of the best in the industry, from Paul Smith to Maharishi. Universal Works is all about an innovative blend of ideas, understanding heritage and context underpinned by contemporary needs and aesthetics. Universal Works relies on small-scale production, both in the UK and overseas, working only with factories they trust, admire and are proud to be associated with. The company also collaborates with artists to writers and anyone in between, a process that inspires continual growth and education.
