Limited double vinyl LP pressing. 2015 release, the highly anticipated third full length album from the much loved Australian band. Currents is the follow up to 2012's Lonerism. Kevin Parker, the musician behind Tame Impala, explained that Currents is about the process of personal transformation. He said, "It follows the progression of someone feeling like they are becoming something else. They're becoming the kind of person they thought they'd never become." The cover art for Currents was created by Kentucky-based artist and musician Robert Beatty. Parker has said Currents' designs are based on a diagram of vortex shedding he remembered while trying to visualize the album's themes. Includes the single 'Let It Happen'.

A West Australian teenager and his demos

Tame Impala is the psychedelic rock project of Australian multi-instrumentalist Kevin Parker. Parker grew up in Perth, Western Australia, and showed an interest in music at a young age. He began playing guitar at the age of 11 and started writing songs in his early teens. In 2007, Parker recorded a collection of demos at home, which he released under the name Tame Impala. The EP, titled Antares Mira Sun, was self-produced and Parker played all the instruments himself. The release attracted some attention in Australia and led to Parker being signed to the Modular Recordings record label. Over the next few years, Parker continued to develop Tame Impala’s sound, which was heavily influenced by the psychedelic rock of the ‘60s and ’70s. In 2010, Tame Impala released their debut album, Innerspeaker, to critical acclaim and helped establish the band as one of the leading acts on the Australian music scene. Prior to the band’s breakthrough, Parker was known for his introverted personality and intense involvement with music. He spent countless hours recording and producing his own music, often working alone in his home studio.

Meditative work and transformation

Parker writes, produces and performs all the music on Tame Impala’s albums, and his distinctive sound has won critical praise and a loyal fan base. Tame Impala’s discography includes four studio albums, beginning with 2010’s Innerspeaker, which won praise for its retro sound and Parker’s complex songwriting. The band’s second album, Lonerism, continued this trend with even more complex arrangements and introspective lyrics. Tame Impala’s third album, Currents, marked a significant departure from their previous output. The album featured a more electronic sound, with Parker experimenting with synthesizers and drum machines. It was a commercial and critical success, earning Parker a Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Music Album. In 2020, Tame Impala released their fourth studio album, The Slow Rush. The album continued the electronic experimentation of Currents, but also incorporated funk and disco influences. Parker’s introspective lyrics dealt with themes of time and aging, and the album was praised for its cohesive sound and ambitious scope. With each album, Parker has pushed the boundaries of his sound, creating a rich and diverse body of work that has captivated audiences around the world.

Australia’s Psychedelic Rock Rep.

Tame Impala often features lush production, catchy hooks and introspective lyrics. The band’s albums, including Innerspeaker, Lonerism and Currents, have received much praise for their innovation and sonic depth. Tame Impala’s influence can be seen in the rise of psychedelic and indie rock bands in the 2010s. Their sound has inspired a new generation of musicians to experiment with electronic elements in their music, creating a fusion of genres that had not previously existed in popular music. The band’s success has also paved the way for a new wave of Australian musicians to gain international recognition. Tame Impala’s worldwide popularity has helped draw attention to Australia’s vibrant music scene and establish the country as a center for innovative and exciting music.
