A Night at the Opera, the fourth studio album by Queen, was released on 21 November 1975 by EMI Records in the United Kingdom. Produced by Roy Thomas Baker and Queen, it was reportedly the most expensive album ever recorded at the time of its release. Upon release, A Night at the Opera topped the UK Albums Chart for four non-consecutive weeks. It peaked at number four on the US Billboard Top LPs & Tape chart and became the band's first platinum-certified album in the US. It also produced the band's most successful single in the UK, ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, which became their first UK number one. The album was completed a week before the group were to embark on their A Night at the Opera Tour in support of the album. This resulted in a 36-hour mixing session, as the group wanted to have time to rehearse their setlist before touring. Due to time constraints, the group only had three and a half days to rehearse, at Elstree. The tour spanned 1975 and 1976, and covered the UK, the US, Japan, and Australia.During the US leg of the tour, on 30th January 1976, the band performed at the Boston Music Hall in Massachusetts, where they performed one of the tour’s very best shows, which many fans still remember fondly to this day. Recorded for live radio broadcast by a local station, the show has still never been released on vinyl. That all changes now as the entire performance is available on this new two-instalment set. Sparkle In The Rain - the sixth studio album by Simple Minds, was released 6 February 1984. A breakthrough commercial success for the band, the record peaked at number 1 in the UK Albums Chart and reached the top 20 in New Zealand, Netherlands, Sweden, Canada, Switzerland, Germany, Norway, and Australia. Receiving positive reviews in the United Kingdom and the United States, Sparkle In The Rain was ultimately certified double platinum in the UK by the British Phonographic Industry, and significantly increased media interest in the band. In the wake of the new album, Simple Minds went out on tour - labelled the Tour De Monde - which, between May 25th and June 19th, visited the United States. Their first show was in NYC, followed by a gig in DC, but on 27th of the Month, the group played at The Up All Night venue in Irvington, New Jersey, where they put on one of the very best shows of the whole tour.Recorded by local radio, the entire concert was broadcast along the East Coast, and streamed too across the country. Performing a healthy selection of cuts from the new record alongside a bunch of Simple Minds classics from their back catalogue, the crowd were in ecstasy, despite the guys being still relatively unknown Stateside. EXTRAORDINARY REHEARSAL SESSION FOR ‘THE WALL LIVE IN BERLIN’ EVENTIn November 1989 the Berlin Wall fell, and on 21st July 1990 Roger Waters staged one of the largest and most elaborate rock concerts in history, The Wall – Live in Berlin, on the vacant terrain between Potsdamer Platz and the Brandenburg Gate. The show reported an attendance of 200,000, though some estimates are as much as twice that, with approximately one billion television viewers. Waters’ musicians included Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison, Cyndi Lauper, Bryan Adams, Scorpions, and Sinéad O'Connor. Designed by Mark Fisher, the wall was 25 metres tall and 170 metres long and was built across the set, and Gerald Scarfe's inflatable puppets were recreated on an enlarged scale.A couple of months prior to the Berlin Show, Roger - alongside his regular touring group, The Bleeding Heart Band (who were the house musicians for the actual concert) - settled in to London’s Townhouse Studios to rehearse for the event. Nothing unusual there, but not only were these rehearsals recorded, they were also broadcast on a couple of small German radio channels, presumably to promote the coming show.Previously, this remained a largely unknown recording outside of the fatherland, but is now released on this new two-instalment set for the first time on vinyl.
