Born in the Basement, the 1994 second LP from horror-pop-punk mainstays the Groovie Ghoulies, in many ways marked a pivotal transition point for the band that would set the course for the rest of their career. After the first LP, the band had moved from Los Angeles to Sacramento, the city that would remain their home base for the duration of the band. The title of the record is more factual than one might assume: at the time, the Ghoulies' lineup of Kepi (bass/vocals), Roach (guitar), and Wendy (drums) were all co-habitating in a house by the city cemetery, practicing in the basement, where the record was indeed "born"! This lineup would remain together for the follow-up World Contact Day, which became the best-selling Ghoulies record! They also found themselves working with a prestigious new producer, recording at Seattle's Egg Studios with Conrad Uno (Mudhoney, The Presidents of the United States of America, The Ergs!). This relationship, too, would continue for World Contact Day. Fuelled by fan-favourite Ghoulies staples such as "The Beast with Five Hands," "I Wanna Have Fun," and "Back to the, Garage," the album was a self-released sell-out through two pressings, attracting the attention of legendary Bay Area punk label Lookout Records, who would work with the band through the year 2000, releasing 4 LPs and re-releasing 2, including Born in the Basement. Having already re-released the best-selling classic World Contact Day, Pirates Press Records is proud to present the album that paved the way for it and the long & storied career of the Groovie Ghoulies, Born in the Basement!

Los Angeles’s Slaughterhouse are back at it with 5 brand new tracks of early 80’s-inspired LA hardcore/death rock for the masses. Presented on a single sided 12” EP with etched B-side, Slaughterhouse are setting the tone for 2025 with what will no doubt be a fixture on best of the year lists, Sick and Tired, via Pirates Press Records. If 4 new original songs weren’t enough, this EP features a blistering cover of Black Flag’s “My War.” True to their LA roots and sound, Slaughterhouse rips through this legendary punk classic with a version that should make Rollins proud, while at the same time making it wholly their own. For fans of Slaughterhouse, this is what you’ve been waiting for. If you’ve seen them live in the past year, you already know what’s coming. If you haven’t had the privilege yet, this is your starting point. If this EP is, as the band puts it, “the tip of the iceberg creatively,” we can’t wait to hear what’s ext! Grab your copy today! The astounding debut album that established the Subhumans as a genuine force to be reckoned with, ‘The Day The Country Died’ captured both the band’s serious anarcho punk ideology and their irreverent sense of humour. It was apparent from the off that here was a band that could not only stimulate your brain but also put a big shit-eating grin on your face as you jumped about to them. And the now-iconic artwork by Nick Lant – probably his most recognisable piece of work for the band - has adorned countless thousands of jackets and T-shirts since. Recorded over just four days during the heady summer of 1982, and released six months later in January 1983, when it quickly climbed to No. 3 in the UK’s then-important Independent Charts, this exhilarating collection of songs has endured for four decades, the band still regularly kicking their live set off with the opening track, ‘All Gone Dead’. As a staple of the punk scene, ALL of the Subhumans records are still in high demand, and this long overdue repress of this album couldn’t be coming at a better time. Subhumans are one of the most influential bands from the UK Anarcho-Punk scene of the 80's, filed right alongside Crass and Conflict, and just as relevant today as they were during the darkest days of Thatcher's Britain. Take your choice in how to label them – Punk, UK82, Crusty, etc. – therein lies the attraction and consequent reason for their popularity, the band epitomizing non-conformity and connecting with people in many different scenes. This album is an essential piece of history in the world of punk that Subhumans helped create. SIDE A1. All Gone Dead2. Ashtray Dirt3. Killing4. Minority5. Mickey Mouse Is Dead6. Nothing I Can Do7. With their eclectic influences and scintillating musicianship, Subhumans were never going to be content to trot out anarcho punk by numbers, but no-one was really prepared for the progressive brilliance of their sophomore album, ‘From The Cradle To The Grave’. Whilst the A-side contains nine short sharp bursts of energised punk, gleefully embracing all points of the spikey spectrum, from the breakneck thrash of ‘Reality Is Waiting For A Bus’ to the ominous dirge of ‘Wake Up Screaming’, it is the ambitious title track that really captures the imagination, its sprawling sixteen-plus-minute running time telling the sorry tale of the human life cycle across a myriad of dynamic acts. If anyone was still in any doubt, it was the band defiantly setting out their stall as a creative entity that existed outside the stifling constraints of perceived musical sub-genres. Committed to tape by the visionary John Loder at Southern Studios at the tail end of 1983, it was released in April 1984 to widespread acclaim – and only kept from the No. 1 spot in the Independent Charts by New Order! What kind of image does “Full Moon Forever” invoke to you? Slightly gothic feels with a sense of timelessness? Good! Then Kepi Ghoulie and friends have succeeded! When Ara Babajian of the Slackers approached Kepi about having an all new challenge, Kepi jumped at the chance to work with his long time friend and drummer hero! Bass player? B-face!!!! With solid rhythm section secured, they started selecting songs that they loved! Years of long backstage chats revealed a common love of some of the “darker” songs of rock’s pop, goth, and new wave eras… the Cure, Cars, Lords of the New Church, Nick Cave all entered the conversation and a group of tunes was selected! Who would produce? Ara wanted to go somewhere new to him, so Kepi and Bface rounded up their old friend Mass Giorgini at Sonic Iguana studios in Lafayette, IN, a colleague who had produced some of Lookout records music in the 90’s and early 2000’s... With 10 songs, also including selections by Nick Cave, Peter Murphy, Lou Reed and Iggy Pop, this little project was actually taking shape! They realized that if they just added David Bowie’s “Heroes” and Trex’ “Cosmic Dancer”, they would have a personal ‘desert island disc’, so they did! The record includes contributions from Ian Fowles (Aquabats, Gerard Way), Prima Donna’s Aaron Minton and Kevin Preston (also currently playing in Green Day), and several other friends, with artwork by artist Tom Neely.

Ever since the hugely successful “One Family One Flag“ (3lp comp, celebrating Pirates’ 200th release), the outright demands from fans (& punk DJs!) for more compilations has mounted steadily. Partly to quell the masses, and equally to satisfy our own desire to curate a playlist of our favorite newest additions to the Pirate catalog, we proudly introduce “For Family And Flag“, a new compilation series aimed at more regularly promoting music from across the spectrum of bands representing the Pirates Press Records family. Amongst these tracks you’ll find new and unreleased material, hits and favorites from recent records, and everything in between. Together, it demonstrates the diversity of bands flying the same flag, coming together to celebrate their music and contributions to the community as a whole… It’s a damn fine playlist too, start to finish. Having so many great bands and great songs together, it doesn’t get much more fun than this! Grab a copy online or down at your local record store. Aaaaarrrrggggh!!

California’s DAD BRAINS unveiled their self-titled debut EP and a video for “I’m Old” through the LA Weekly on Father’s Day(2018). We are extremely happy to offer up a 7” EP of those incredible (& incredibly hilarious) tracks! DAD BRAINS started out of emotions skyrocketed with love, fear, anxiety, and all that stuff new daddies think of when they realize that it’s not about “you” anymore. Sleepless nights, dark clouds of hormones, baby poop everywhere, breast milk taking over the freezer and even mother-in-laws sleeping on the living room couch; what else can a musician do to vent but start a band?! Having formed only about two years ago, Lion's Law has quickly
established themselves as one of the elite, modern, skinhead streetpunk
bands alongside Booze & Glory, Evil Conduct, Bishops Green and The
Templars. Formed by members of the popular French band Maraboots, Lion's
Law took a direction equally as influenced by classic UK oi bands like
Last Resort as much as classic French bands like Warrior Kids and Camera
Silens. This fusion creates a unique sound that has met with success not
only across Europe but also in the U.S. and elsewhere.

Pirates Press Records is proud to re-release Close My Eyes, the 2002 album by NYC ska-reggae legends The Slackers - a complex and nuanced album that shows the band’s versatility and capacity for both commentary and introspection. It is often said - to the point of cliche - that New York City is a “character” in the work of the city’s most noted filmmakers. A similar statement could be made about the artistic symbiosis between the city and The Slackers. From the Bronx-born accent of lead vocalist Vic Ruggiero to the band’s embrace of cosmopolitan musical traditions from a melting pot of cultural origins, New York defines The Slackers at least as much as the band have contributed to defining the sound of New York for well over 30 years. Therefore, it bears mentioning that - aside from a 2002 collaborative album by “The Slackersand Friends” - Close My Eyesis the band’s first proper studio LP released after the traumatic terrorist attacks on their home city in 2001, and the band took enough time to reckon with the global fallout of this tragedy. “So feel free go steal and rob, revolution ain't my job,” sings Ruggiero on the title track. “And if I sing your happy song, please don't tell me I am wrong.” It is the statement of an artist searching for a way to still sing about joy and life in uncertain times of great upheaval. And ultimately the band must reckon with these times. On “Real War,” toaster Marq Lyn takes lead vocals as the band addresses the march to war that was omnipresent in those early days of the 21st century, stating in no uncertain terms that it was “Time to fight the real war… Against hunger and poverty… For racial equality.” The Slackers make it clear that while the machinations of hawkish politicians grind on, the real needs of people all over the world are left behind. This tension between a dangerous world and the struggles of one’s personal life are present throughout the record, and the band weaves stories from the whole spectrum of human emotion, war, heartbreak, joy, and everything in between. Bookended by instrumental tracks, opening with the energetic “Shankbon” and ending with moody dub reggae, these veteran virtuoso players ultimately take listeners on a masterful journey through the human experience. Some records so perfectly capture an artist at a critical point in their creativity, and make such an impact, that they become not just synonymous with the band, but an essential piece of music history. Such is the case with Shock Troops, the album that not only became Cock Sparrer’s most acclaimed record, but a defining moment for Oi!, punk rock, and underground music in general! Originally released by Razor Records in 1983, Shock Troops proved to consist of song after song which would each become anthems of the burgeoning Oi! scene and far beyond. From the opening of “Where Are They Now?” on through “Take ‘Em All,” “We’re Coming Back,” all the way to the closing chords of “Out On An Island,” there isn’t a song in the bunch that any self respecting punk rocker can’t shout along to. These working class anthems are just as vital today, as proven by the crowds of beloved fans worldwide that continue to go wild at Sparrer’s live shows, where Shock Troops tracks still make up the heart of their setlists. For nearly 15 years, Pirates Press Records has made certain this classic stayed in print, in an absolutely stunning assortment of coloured vinyl pressings. In celebration of the band’s 50th year, we were proud to present a remastered version of Shock Troops, from the original 1⁄4” tapes, sounding better than ever! The 50th anniversary gold jacket versions are sadly all sold out but now we have the remastered versions on colored vinyl with the original artwork! Pure class. SIDE A:1. Where Are They Now2. Featuring an impressive pedigree including members of Bl’ast!, Good Riddance, THE Distillers, and Fast Asleep, the band picks up right where they left off on their 2020, debut LP, Brace Yourself, with a ten-song barrage of relentless, uncompromising rage, touching on topics such as religion, self-medication, and survival in a—literally and figuratively—sick society. In between playing shows with legendary acts like Quicksand, Fear, R.K.L., and Propagandhi, the band got back together with Paul Miner at Buzzbomb Studios to lay down the follow-up to their explosive debut. All in all, it is a continuation of the band’s fast and hard approach in every way, and if anything, the band is more dialed-in and focused than ever. The songs on the record come from extremely personal and often dark places for singer and lyricist Clifford Dinsmore, such as the first single, “Hanging In The Balance.” He explains, “In the time period I was fighting cancer, I was shacked up, feeling like a prisoner in my own house. Living in a semi-purgatory state, I felt like I was looking at the world from an outside view.” Of the bleak, punishing “Omen Of Despair,” guitarist Danny B simply says, “Musically and lyrically, this is where we feel Seized UP is right now.” The band also re-recorded “Forum Of Decay,” from their 2021 7”, wishing for it to be featured on the album with the laser tightness the band is now playing with after five years as a unit.

The 400th release in the Pirates Press Records catalog is certainly a milestone that we are all thrilled and grateful to see, and to mark the occasion with For Family And Flag Volume 2! It was just about three years ago that we unveiled For Family And Flag Volume 1, our 300th release, and the spiritual successor to One Family One Flag, the triple LP that marked our 200th. The label (and let’s face it, the world) has been through so much in those three years, but in some ways, it feels like just yesterday. What truly stands out when looking from one release to the next is the ever-expanding Pirates family. THE Drowns were still fairly newcomers to the label the last time around, and the release of Suzi MOON’s debut EP was still months away. Now, it is safe to say that they are both flagship artists of the label! Longtime stalwarts like THE Slackers, NOI!SE, Stomper 98, Deecracks, and Territories are still present and represented by some of their most exciting new music. Meanwhile, a large portion of the album consists of brand new additions to the label, like THE Inciters, Billy Liar, Hunting Lions, Flores Y Fuego, Starving Wolves, Sweat, and Brigata Vendetta! By the time Volume 3 rolls around, those newcomers are sure to join the ranks of the veterans we couldn’t imagine the label without! This fantastic collection of exclusive tracks, hits, Pirates’ personal favorites, and everything in between represents the latest, most diverse, most international collection of artists flying the same flag, and each a part of the Pirates family!

When Calgary, AB, punk rockers

Territories released their self- titled debut album on Pirates Press

Records in 2018, they were a new band with a lot to say and a lot to prove. What a difference five years, and a clutch of the catchiest,

best-written, and most thought- provoking punk rock songs, makes!

In the interim, the band kept busy with the six-song EP When The Day Is Done as well as a split with fellow Canadians THE Vicious Cycles. The band has truly outdone itself with the 11 songs on Colder Now, deftly navigating the waters of the so-called “difficult second record” with a collection of songs that will blow the minds of longtime fans and newcomers alike. This is a band that pours their hearts and their minds into both their music and lyrics, tackling big issues, but always articulated from a relatable, personal perspective that acts as a rallying cry and a beacon of hope for everyone who feels alienated by modern society. The world is unfortunately still a dangerous place, but for those who dare to dream of something better, there is solace in the fact that Territories is back to give voice to those dreams with Colder Now.

“My Last Star” began as a dream that Greg Lee of Hepcat had the week before his death in March of 2024. Greg dreamed of a Slackers song. The Slackers have completed this song, and now the world can hear this truly one of a kind collaboration. In Greg’s dream, an old neighbor picked him up in a classic car, turned on the stereo, and played a Slackers song that - at the time - did not exist on our plane of reality. It sounds like the stuff of myth, but the song was so crystal clear in the dream that when he awoke around 2 or 3 in the morning, he immediately wrote down the lyrics he had heard, still humming the tune. “I hadn’t seen Greg so excited about a new song in a very long time,” says Lee’s longtime partner, Mandie Becker. “I found the lyrics when I was organizing his things. I knew he had a voice recording on his phone, too. I decided the best situation was to offer it to The Slackers so we could all hear the song on the stereo from Greg’s dream.” “I was floored when I received Greg's vocal demo with the lyrics and I vowed to finish the song and make the dream a reality,” says Slackers saxophonist Dave Hillyard. “I took the vocal demo to The Slackers, Vic [Ruggiero] harmonized it, and we wrote music around the words. With this song we came full circle. Greg had given us a gift and we needed to give it back to his family, friends, and musical community. We are the medium for his message.” The longer history behind this collaboration is a story of decades of friendship, collaboration, artistry, and mutual respect between LA's Hepcat and NYC’s The Slackers, who although from opposite coasts, have both been leading lights and creative forces in the underground ska scene since the early 1990s. Both Hepcat and The Slackers concerned themselves with timeless songwriting that paid homage to the longstanding roots of the music. It is an extraordinary final work envisioned by a beloved and thoughtful musician of the highest caliber, and completed by longtime friends and collaborators he knew from the moment of inspiration were the ones that would play it. It is literally a dream come true. “My Last Star” is available as a 12” UV Printed Vinyl Single from Pirates Press Records, with art by The Slackers’ in-house artist Catt Gould. The 12” also includes instrumental and dub versions of the song. As a matter of fact, snippets of Greg’s original vocal demo from his phone are subtly mixed in toward the end of the instrumental version, underscoring his posthumous presence on the record. Greg’s songwriting royalties, as well as a portion of the proceeds from the sales of “My Last Star,” will be passed on to his four daughters. SIDE A01. My Last Star02. My Last Star - Dub Version03. Every once in a while, we are fortunate to discover two elements that just belong together. In underground music, sometimes two creative forces simply need to occupy the same space, the same air…the same piece of wax. The new split 7” between Los Angeles based Slaughterhouse and Mexico’s Flores y Fuego is one of those rare moments where two such elements combine in an explosive chemical reaction that is greater than the sum of its parts. Pirates Press Records is ecstatic to present these four new songs from these two incredible bands for the first time on vinyl. FLORES Y FUEGO1. Abraza el Fracaso2. Manifiesto RuinSLAUGHTERHOUSE1. From the moment the needle drops on Monster Squad’s 2007 album “Fire The Faith” with the title track’s scorching bass lines, the record serves as a time capsule for a tenuous moment around the world. Radicalized politics, a neverending war, and the onset of an economic depression characterize a period we’d all soon rather forget. All of that, however, served as the fuel behind arguably the band’s most recognizable and revered album from the northern California punk band. Monster Squad firmly entrenched themselves by crafting songs with breakneck speeds and wholly relatable lyrics that fans around the world would sing back as the band took the stage around the globe. “You Are Not Alone” is dedicated to their late friend Robbie Western, which has evolved into one of the band’s most anthemic and popular songs. Many fans credit this track with helping address mental health issues. As more members of the Monster Squad family like Travis ‘Bobby Hill’ Gustafson leave this world far too early, the line “And I ask - why? Our questions will never be answered” hits harder than ever before. The album's artwork, an oil painting by frontman Phil Geck, serves as a bold statement. Created during George W. Bush’s presidency in 2007, it is an anti-war piece symbolizing defiance against government and corporate greed. This reissue boasts a 12x24 double-sided gatefold insert , 18x24 poster of the cover painting, and a two-song flexi, featuring the rare gem “Leach" and the previously unreleased track “State Of Confusion.” Fans will also get a double-sided 11x17 poster, displaying the album release show at Gilman on one side and their 2008 European tour flyer on the other. The 4 songs that make up Monster Squad’s “All Out Of Control” were written during extensive touring and shortly after the band released their influential 2004 LP “Strength Through Pain.” Monster Squad went to legendary Bart Thurber (Spazz, Capitalist Casualties, Neurosis) at House of Faith in Oakland to record the EP. These songs represented a slight departure from the speed that fans got to know on “Strength Through Pain.” The title track “All Out of Control” was a different side for Monster Squad, showcasing more anthemic (and much slower) songs than the breakneck, frenetic pace of their previous works. The band utilized ‘call and response’ vocal patterns which quickly became and remains one of the band’s most popular songs. The band continued to explore new ideas, such as incorporating a cowbell on “Church and State,” which talks about the overwhelming presence and oppression that organized religion has in politics. “Gotta Get Out” focuses on the ruts people find themselves in - nowhere to go to escape daily life with the inability to control anxious and hopeless feelings “All Out Of Control” has been out of print since 2006 and fans have been clamoring for a reissue for many years. This new 12” 45rpm version, remastered by Jack Shirley (Sweat, Deafheaven, Gouge Away) at The Atomic Garden, has a completely new layout. Monster Squad used images from the photo session of the original release and scans of the original lyric sheets written in 2005. The band also stumbled upon a collage from 1982 that the legendary collage maestro Winston Smith (Dead Kennedys, etc) made, titled “Security Control” which was a perfect fit, and is included in this new artwork. The record also includes a double-sided 11x17 poster of the MS/APG red skull image + a collage designed by the band’s long-time friend Amanda Chavez. At long last, the complete back catalog of influential UK political punks The Restarts will be widely available across the world, starting with their earliest recordings! Actively Seeking Work: 1996-1998 collects the studio recordings of the band from their very inception. It all began with a DIY cassette tape released in 1996, which was - to the band's pleasant surprise - reproduced around the Czech Republic and Poland, translated lyric sheet and all, by Malarie Records. Also included on this LP are the tracks from their debut 7" Frustration and the 1997 EP ...Just Gets Worse, both of which saw vinyl releases through Blind Destruction Records. The final batch of songs comes from State Rape, which was originally the Restarts' half of a split LP with London's Zero Tolerance, and was subsequently released on CD as a split with Holland's Fleas and Lice. Taken together, these recordings chart the early chaotic evolution of the band as they built the reputation and recognition they now enjoy among the international DIY punk scene. This collection has been out of print for over ten years after an initial Europe-only pressing, and Pirates Press Records is thrilled to present its first worldwide release as the opening salvo of a four LP Restarts reissue campaign that will bring their full discography back in print with wide distribution for the first time!

Arguably the highlight of their Eighties output, the third Subhumans album was recorded at Woodlands Studio, Castleford, during Spring 1985, and released early the following year, a few months after the band had split. Opening with the slightly incongruous instrumental, ‘33322’, what it lacks in rampant speed, it more than compensates for with some truly sublime compositions, assured arrangements anddizzying time changes. With a front cover illustration inked by vocalist Dick, ‘Worlds Apart’ saw the band find a veritable sweet spot in their song-writing, spawning many of their best-loved tracks, such as ‘Apathy’, ‘Businessmen’ and ‘Can’t Hear The Words’, but every single track on the album remains an understated masterpiece. As the title suggests, this 1986 album compiled the eight-track ‘Time Flies… But Aeroplanes Crash’ 12”, originally recorded and released in 1983, and the four-track EP, ‘Rats’, that had been recorded during the summer of 1984 and released in early ’85.‘Rats’ might just be the band’s most powerful and compelling release, the title track inspired by the Stop The City protests of ’84 that sought to highlight the undeniable links between first world capitalism and third world poverty. Whilst it’s something of a mish-mash, with several rowdy live tracks and a few, very enjoyable re-recordings of old Stupid Humans songs (Stupid Humans being guitarist Bruce’s pre-Subhumans band…), it contains two of the Subhumans’ best-loved tracks, ‘Work Rest Play Die’ and ‘Susan’, the latter something of an oddity as it’s a stirring piano piece, with lyrics written by Steve Hamilton, an old friend of the band. As a staple of the punk scene, ALL of the Subhumans records are still in high demand, and this long overdue repress of this album couldn’t be coming at a better time. The EP-LP was originally released in early 1986, after the band had split in November 1985, and collected for convenience the first four Subhumans EPs onto one disc. This includes the fiery six-track debut, ‘Demolition War’, that was first unleashed at the end of 1981, the powerful and provocative ‘Reason For Existence’ and the perennial ‘Religious Wars’, both from 1982, and the intenselyangry ‘Evolution’, from May 1983, whose title track rages so effectively against the senseless tragedy that is vivisection. Whilstnever intended to be released as a full-length album when first recorded, most of the eighteen tracks on offer are still staples in the band’s set to this day, and hang together very cohesively as an essential body of work. So named because the CD version originally clocked in time-wise at 29 minutes and 29 seconds, ‘29:29 Split Vision’ was recorded in December 1985, just after the band had split up, and they wanted to bring some closure to that period by recording the new songs they were working on at the time, alongside some of their older material that hadn’t yet been properly recorded. Whilst the B-side hints at the underlying reasons the band split up – the inevitable ‘musical differences’, with the three newest songs on the release literally worlds apart (excuse the pun) from their classic material - the five songs on the A-side are veritable belters, and ‘Split Vision’ remains a frustratingly fascinating offering from this most unconventional of punk bands. As a staple of the punk scene, ALL of the Subhumans records are still in high demand, and this long overdue repress of this album couldn’t be coming at a better time. “New York Berlin” is commentary on friendship during changing times in center cities. Both friends and neighborhoods were treasured despite their flaws but both ended up going away. The moral of the song is to remember to love everyone around you while they are around you. Meanwhile, “Tell Them No” is a song of empowerment and finding one’s inner strength through adversity. Based on trombonist and vocalist Glen Pine and his nephew’s real-life struggles with bullying, the song encourages its listeners to rise above the fray and not to let detractors get the best of you. Stand up for yourself, fight back, then allow yourself to heal.

It’s been a long time since the world felt normal. This album really makes you feel like the world hasn’t changed, somehow. This band has changed though, albeit subtly. Punk hasn’t really changed though. The reason why you love Punk, and the reason why this band matters and why we all love them so much is showcased by the four tracks on this record, absolutely! It’s an EP, but it says all that needs to be said. It makes you feel why being a part of punk is important. We are a family, a culture, or a subculture if you want to call it that… But to us, it’s just culture, family and where we all feel at Home. It’s just who we are. Booze and Glory exemplify that. These songs ring true, speak volumes, and show why this band is so important to a musical movement with such a diverse yet globally unified social fabric. Its unquestionable that the past two years have changed the world, changed music, changed punk, and changed how we all feel about everything… and this album will make you realize that the way you feel about Booze and Glory may have changed too - but only in a good way! From one end of the world to the other, these songs ring true, speak volumes, and symbolize and embolden the true values and love that exist within the greater punk community. Love the love. Booze AND Glory. Raise that proverbial roof, all the way up! Oi! Oi!

Suzi Moon’s effortless channeling of classic ‘77 punk rock spirit with a modern twist continues to evolve and grow. This second twelve inch with Pirates Press Records picks up where her debut left off - blowing us away with more incredible songs that will continue her upward trajectory as one of the most engaging women involved in punk right now! The response to her first release was fantastic, though not surprising - with the first press selling out before street date and the likes of Iggy Pop singing her praises on the BBC! The touring opportunities have been flooding in, despite the covid restraints, and the show reviews have been phenomenal. We’re all poised to see her fanbase grow immensely over the next year, and this release will be one of the biggest things propelling her forward. When asked how she remained so focused and productive during 2021 Moon said "I am definitely a workaholic and since “Call The Shots” was literally my first and only guaranteed shot at getting my solo music out into the world, I didn’t want to waste one second. Between designing artwork, writing & recording songs, photoshoots, press interviews and all of the administrative stuff that goes on day to day, there was not much time for me to even stop and process the reality of my record coming out! My record with my face on it! Something I have dreamed of my entire life. This huge opportunity kept me motivated and focused, and I am super grateful to my label Pirates Press Records for believing in me and giving me a platform to do this crazy shit. I’m ready to do it again!” So, we’re doing it again! And later this summer we’ll be releasing her full length, Dumb & In Luv. We can’t wait to see where 2022 takes us!

Pirates Press Records is unbelievably proud to announce the release of the first new Slackers full length album in seven years, and the first on Pirates! Filled front to back with true hits that could each stand alone as a single, this full length takes you on a real (musical) journey with this legendary band that so many have followed religiously for decades. “We recorded most of this album during the quarantine, we were wired up at our sound guy’s house doing livestream concerts and after we were done we would learn new tunes. These songs have the energy of our times ‘cause we were living them,” says frontman Vic Ruggiero. The New York Times dubbed the Slackers part of 'the sound of New York,’ and the Slackers just keep at it, only getting better with age and experience - writing better and better songs, and continuing to build and strengthen that global Slackers family. This album is a testament to that age and experience. These special tunes will undoubtedly travel far and wide, just like the band will, performing these songs in a club near you! LA’s Sweat are gonna change the landscape of hardcore. Through a blend of contemporary heaviness, classic rock, punk, and other diverse influences, the band represents at once an amalgamation of canon styles and something wholly unique. The perfect blend of ridiculously great riffs, an intensely powerful singer and a rhythm section holding it down with nuance and creativity. All whilst having that special magic on stage that lets you know that these people are friends and care about what they are doing. That they aren’t playing in a band to climb some music industry ladder, but to have fun and sate the deep-seated need for musical catharsis. How often do you hear a hardcore band doing something new? How often do you hear a hardcore band where the members are mature enough to be amazing musicians, but still really fucking angry? How often to you hear a hardcore band that actually have something to say? Sadly, the answer to all of those questions is “rarely” - but Sweat show that it can be fucking done. That they can tick all the boxes and will be your new favorite hardcore band.

Here's one for all the Slade fans out there! The Drowns have never been shy to acknowledge their in-fluences and, since day one, Slade has been high up on that list. To quote Rev, “Their energy and Rock’n'Roll sound is nothing short of pure sonic truth.” The minute that the Drowns started jamming “Know Who You Are“ in the studio, they knew it was going to be great, and FUN! We at Pirates absolutely agree, and together all felt this was definitely worthy of its own plate of wax! (…further solidi ed by the ridiculous photo they took for the front cover!) Paired with a brand new ripper called “Guidelines of Control,” this 7” is just chock-full of big riffs, driving rhythms, amazing guitar solos, and even a cowbell! This is The Drowns take on amped up classic rock and roll - with equal parts spit and swagger!

NEW RELEASE FROM GRADE 2 - ACOUSTIC SESSION OF GRAVEYARD ISLAND 12” - RED VINYL! Having to quite literally slam on the brakes in the middle of promoting their debut Epitaph / Hellcat LP “Graveyard Island” was an absolute nightmare that nobody could’ve dreamt up. Like so many other bands in their position, these upstarts were faced with the challenge of staying busy and keeping momentum and optimism with the wind of the world in their faces. True to their passion and power, these fine gentleman from the Isle of Wight certainly made the most of their time. While constantly connecting with fans in whatever ways they could, continuing to try and build those relationships in whatever form they can take during a pandemic, Sid, Jack and Jacob never took their eyes off the prize. This album is no exception. In Sid’s words, “With the absence of life on the road and general shut down of creativity, we knew it was time for us to pick up our guitars, stick and try something new. The record was recorded in Jacks bedroom [aka “Harding Road Studios”] using one microphone, nothing else.” The results truly speak for themselves, and show off this talented three-piece in a whole new light! Get ready to hear that classic Grade 2 sound… that sweet passion and grit, with a little twist! Clear Vinyl. The clearing ashes of a pandemic will surely bring light and inspiration, hope and so much more to the world. For the rock n roll world, the flaming emotional roller coaster we’ve all endured will surely yield epic and legendary anthems to carry our burning souls through the next few generations. This is an album defining that sentiment in an enormous way. Not just an anthem or two, but an entire full length chock-full of them! Picking a favorite off this album is near impossible. There’s a song to fit every mood, every emotion, and a few that can carry you through those times when you just don’t know what the fuck is going on… This album, just like this band, feels like it’s decades old when only still emerging from infancy. The first 13 songs poured out of these seasoned veterans with speed and abundance, they are nothing short of inspirational. These songs are raw, and real, and a reflection of life in a way most songs can’t capture. These words, and this record will endure; with a new song taking (or retaking!) its place as your favorite - multiple times. Pure rock n roll ear candy, with passionate political and social intent, hellbent on changing the status quo!! If you buy a record on someone else’s recommendation this summer, buy this one!

Never losing sight of goals, and pressing onward amidst countless obstacles, Antagonizers ATL from Atlanta have delivered an unbelievable follow up to their debut self-titled LP. Adding a sixth member, enlisting a few talented friends to help with some key tracks, and really taking the time to hone in on their songwriting, has created an album with strength exuding from every orifice. This record ups the ante, and shows that they only plan on conquering more challenges and goals head-on; eventually taking their incredible live show back out across the globe to share these great tunes with you! While the world remains more chaotic than anyone would like, and we collectively work our way out of the divisiveness we find in everyday life, it’s good to know that there is strength, consistency, and a unified message and sentiment at least within the greater punk scene! For the first time on vinyl. The Aggrolites delivered a third album that completely busted the myth that surrounds this often difficult time in a band’s career. In 2007 they released this phenomenal record, containing what many consider their best ever track “Free Time.” This explosive album just built upon a momentum and trajectory that just continued to build steam and take them to new heights. Some of the real burners on this record still remain in the band’s live set, but for whatever reason, this one never made its way onto vinyl, until now. Using what could be unearthed of the original design, Pirates Press Records is proud to give this fantastic album new legs, and to give fans and collectors alike something very special to commemorate this period of the band’s history.

Now an established force in the reggae world, the Aggrolites just kept pumping out a steady stream of toe-tapping adventures all the way through the first decade of the 2000’s. This, their third and final album released by Hellcat showcased the talent and synergy that caused so many to dance and sing along. To many fans, this album really represents the point when this band permanently affixed themselves as a ‘forever’ staple in the reggae world. It was broadcast far and wide thanks to the support of Hellcat/Epitaph, and just like the tunes, the band was carried far and wide too - literally. Nonstop. As much as it represents permanency for many, it also marks a change for the band - to take on more responsibility, and seize the opportunity to grab the reigns and carve out a more tailored next chapter. "iv" would be their last album on Hellcat, but it would by no means be the last thing heard from these passionate and illustrious cats. Quite the contrary.

Being able to capture the energy and atmosphere of these bands‘ live performances is a true art form, and is the key ingredient in making a record that can properly illustrate the magnitude and impact a band can have on its fans. The Slackers are definitely one of these bands (and this is absolutely one of those records!). An institution in New York City, and a legendary stronghold in the ska/reggae scenes globally, this unstoppable force continues to welcome new fans into the fold, very seldomly losing one along the way. A Slackers show, big or small, is an event. This album, recorded almost 20 years ago, highlights just that magic. Hailed for the better part of two decades by fans as an absolutely crucial part of any Slackers collection, this powerful set and unbelievable package has somehow evaded the world of vinyl, until now. Remixed and remastered to sound better than ever before, this re-issue is not one to pass up. If you are a fan of The Slackers, this needs to be in your collection! This is the album that started it all. Cock Sparrer has "Shock Troops". Rancid has “Let’s Go". The Aggrolites have "Dirty Reggae"; and off the back of this album emerged a scene embracing that term itself, that would grow to be bigger than the band could ever be. “Dirty Reggae" is now in-and-of-itself a category of Reggae that has taken the world by storm over the past decade-and-a-half. 15 years after the original release of this pinnacle record, Pirates Press Records and Axe Records have teamed up to repress "Dirty Reggae”, and make it widely available to all those who haven’t been able to find this classic for a long time! Nobody could’ve guessed at the time, preparing an assembly of musicians to support classic reggae artist Derrick Morgan, that the project would lead to a band that has truly changed the face of Reggae. As with other classic albums, from the moment the needle touches down, the music takes the listener to a special place; in this case, one that has and continues to inspire others to build upon what this integral band has started. This ‘standard’ version brings this truly important record back into press, in a way that can be accessible to a whole new generation of Reggae (and vinyl) lovers across the globe. SIDE A1. CHARGER is very soon going to be a band that needs no introduction for music fans across the globe.

It didn't start off as a band, but more of a musical challenge between two accomplished heavyweights exploring their roots and mutual passions.

CHARGER is driven by a love for 70's hard rock as much as it is the ever-present 'East Bay sound' that has shaped these musicians lives for decades.

In the same way you can't throw MOTORHEAD in a box and label them metal, punk, thrash or hard rock, this incredible band and record will both prove themselves a force to be reckoned with on a global stage. Defying all genre expectations, and just plain bringing the ROCK - this powerful three piece will undoubtedly take these incredible songs far and wide.

Backing it right up, their live show is superb as well; something folks in the Bay Area have not taken for granted over the past half-year - and something that the rest of the world is about to get a taste of, in a big way!

If you are someone who enjoys the best of BLACK SABBATH, JUDAS PRIEST, MOTORHEAD, DIO, AC/DC, METALLICA, NEUROSIS, HIGH ON FIRE & of course, RANCID (or even one of those bands), listen up! This is for you!

These New Yorkers have been skilfully crafting their signature gospel of roots-reggae-ska fusion for the better part of 30 years, and in doing so rightfully earning a reputation as one of the most engaging live bands in the world. Back in 1996, the NY Times declared the Slackers to be part of “the sound of New York”, a mantle they haven’t given up since. Originally released on Hellcat in 2006, "Peculiar” has remained timeless, continuously heralded as a true testament to their energy on stage and what makes them such a treasured band by fans across the globe. Alternative Nation called it “protest music made for dim, sweaty basements - The Slackers would sound at home supporting Rancid just as well as some grizzled New Orleans electric blues trio.” While “Peculiar” isn't a proper live album, the band managed to turn a club into their studio and truly strike a balance between their incredible live show and their equally impassioned studio work. The rhythm parts of the album were laid down during a live performance at reknowned Dutch ska club Ernesto’s (in Sittard, Holland), with vocal overdubs added later in the studio. In addition to many soon to be favorites, the setlist also includes tracks from their previous War Criminal EP, reinterpreted, reframed and played quite differently from their original release. “Peculiar” ranks right up there with Redlight and The Question as one of the Slackers' best - certainly one of the most played and cherished albums in their arsenal. Pirates Press Records is proud to have teamed up with the band to bring you this incredible expanded gatefold version of “Peculiar”, including a bonus 45 carrying two additional tracks from the project not offered with the original Hellcat release. The masters of punk rock satire, dad jokes, and ripping hardcore riffs are back at it for the second year in a row, dishing out the goods on Father’s Day! For comedy value alone, this band, and this record kill it - thankfully though, there is significant musical substance behind the comedy. Drawing from their roots in California punk rock, hardcore, and fatherhood, the “DADDITUDE” that these seasoned musician-dads are delivering is more than just a cheap shot at comedy; it’s something a lot of people in the punk and hardcore world are taking seriously… Well, as seriously as you can, given the lyrical content. These tracks pick up right where last year‘s debut (Father’s Day) EP and their Xmas split with Ramoms lead off - without rehashing the same old jokes and riffs! When one thinks of the contemporary worldwide Oi! And streetpunk scene, it is impossible to exclude Paris, France's Lion's Law from the conversation. During a time when tastes and trends come and go, Lion's Law has stood resolute for over a decade, and will continue to do so. Hence the title of their latest LP, Evermore. This is a band that staked their claim before Oi! enjoyed much of the popularity it does today, and they will still be here when those less dedicated have faded away. The band are rated around the world for their explosive, furious live show, and tough as nails songwriting that evokes the imagery of their namesake. Capturing that energy, and all of the sweat and blood that goes along with it, in the grooves of a record is always the challenge, and across the 15 songs that comprise Evermore, Lion's Law do an admirable job of doing just that. Sticking true to their roots but always evolving, incorporating elements of hardcore, punk, and more into a unified sound, Lion's Law tell you in no uncertain terms exactly how it is with songs like 'The World is On Fire' and 'Before Your Eyes,' expressing all the rage and torment of the modern age. And lest you think there are no surprises left, the album closes with a cover of 'I Ran' by 80s new wave hitmakers A Flock of Seagulls, which the band naturally puts their own stamp on. Get ready for February 7th, 2024, when the new Lion's Law album hits the streets. More than a mere record release, this will be an event that will be spoken of and remembered... Evermore. With all eyes seemingly on the international street-punk scene during a time of boundless creativity, Guadalajara’s Mess stands poised to make a global impact. Influenced by the classic sounds of Oi! and Uk82, the band brings a raw but catchy sensibility to their street-level, rock ‘n’ roll anthems, sung mostly in English, with a little Spanish. After making a huge impression with their opening salvo of singles and EPs, as well as a split with UK heroes THE Chisel, the 14-song LP Under Attack is Mess’s most fully formed creative vision to date, showcasing a timeless sound across songs like “Leave Me Alone,” “Fueled By Rage,” and the impossibly catchy, mid-tempo anthem “In The City.” Taken together, this is the sound of the streets, tough as nails, but with an appeal to the human spirit of survival in a bleak society. Under Attack is the world according to Mess.

Confronting the dark corners of our world with unflinching defiance comes Austin, Texas’s own Starving Wolves to flip the sound of punk upside down with their new LP, The Fire, The Wolf, The Fang. The kickoff track, “Nothing More,” opens with guitars and horns paying homage to traditional Mexican and Latin American music, and is soon joined by militaristic drums, evoking images of a coming showdown in a spaghetti western film. Then singer and lyricist David Rodriguez kicks into a raging punk-rock fury by tearing his throat raw singing for the downtrodden of the world: “Raised in fear! Bathed in blood! Crucified, we are reborn!” It sets an apocalyptic tone for a raw, relentless punk-rock record that confronts widespread social issues like police brutality (“Burn The Stations”), support for those struggling with their mental health or facing suicidal ideation (“Please Listen”), and personal issues of cultural identity (“Mixed Blood”). In the latter, Rodriguez draws upon his Mexican-American heritage, singing in both English and Spanish to articulate his experience to speakers of both languages, connecting racism faced by young people to the brutal history of colonialism in the Americas. In releasing songs from the record, Starving Wolves have literally put their money where their mouths are, donating to efforts to support mental health for indigenous youth by building skate parks on reservation land, and providing a positive athletic and creative outlet for kids in vulnerable populations. Forceful and dark, yet with an undying spirit of resilience, the journey of The Fire, The Wolf, The Fang is ultimately a cathartic experience, and a scream of survival and hope for those left behind in a world that can feel bleak.

“Here We Stand.” It is a phrase that means a lot to the legendary UK punk band Cock Sparrer. It was the title of the band’s 2007 LP, which announced their arrival in the 21st century. It cropped up again as a rallying cry in the lyrics to their 2017 anthem “One By One.” And now it is the title and chorus of a brand-new single off the band’s farewell studio LP, Hand on Heart.

Pirates Press Records is thrilled to celebrate the long running California punk rock band Monster Squad with an extensive vinyl reissue campaign, starting from the beginning with their debut EP! The 6-song EP Not For Them is truly ground zero for Monster Squad, and a document of the band’s origins. In the summer of 2000, the band members moved in together in a shanty of a punk house with old gravestones strewn about the basement, across the street from their skate spot of choice in Vacaville, CA. These were heady times for young punks at the end of their teenage years. As their reputation as outspoken rabble rousers, grew, so too did the target on their backs, enduring fights with cops, jocks, and rednecks, and even having a Molotov cocktail tossed at their front door by a local neo-Nazi who apparently took issue with the band’s anti-racist and anti-fascist stance! Across six songs, the band members bashed out what could be considered a manifesto for what Monster Squad would be: shout-along choruses, pogo punk positivity, lyrics that stated in no uncertain terms their opposition to the Bush-era war machine & Proposition-8 era institutionalized homophobia. Perhaps most personally, the song “Pressure” featured an honest & relatable discussion of mental health issues that would become a recurring theme in the ensuing decades. Originally self-released via CD-Rs burned on the clock at Guitar Center on the band’s own Strength Through Pain Records, Monster Squad’s Not For Them is on vinyl for the first time ever! Pirates Press Records is proud to present this essential piece of turn-of-the-century California punk on 12” Magenta Vinyl with Black Splatter.

Plizzken are back in a big way with their eagerly anticipated second LP, Do You Really Wanna Know? These German punks' debut LP was the first full length where lead singer Sebi sang entirely in English. Since that album's release to great acclaim from the international street punk commu- nity, Sebi suffered the setback of a debilitating workplace accident, but triumphantly rose above all expecta- tions for recovery, making a hard-hit- ting new record with his long-running band Stomper 98 to boot! Returning their focus to Plizzken, Sebi and the crew are locked in and razor tight, crafting 13 brand new tracks of anthemic working class street punk that will thrill their fans while taking them by surprise. What will strike listeners immediately is a renewed focus on melody and hooks. In short, these songs are CATCHY! By the time the handclaps come in on the fourth song, "Memory Lane," you may just find yourself dancing around the room to these tunes. Likewise for the post-punk/new wave influenced groove that drives tracks like "I Don't Wanna. "Without sacrificing the realism and grit with which they face the world and sound the alarms for the working class to rise up, Plizzken sound renewed, positive, and keen to encourage everyone ready "TO FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT," as the gang vocals on "Mad World" put it. Although they are all punk rock veterans with decades playing music, Do You Really Wanna Know? has the energy of a hungry young band who are not about to waste a new lease on life. Combining street level punk rock 'n roll with a genuine pop sensibility and a rabble-rousing spirit, executed with the chops of seasoned players, Do You Really Wanna Know? is truly a record that will have old fans dancing and singing along with fists in the air, hand in hand with what is certain to be an army of new ones.

NOi!SE is a band that has always dealt in pure honesty at every stage, from songwriting to performance. The listener is always guaranteed the unvarnished truth as the band members see it. However, there are many truths in life, and some of the hardest to put into words can be the truths imparted to those closest in your life, such as from a father to a son. Years ago, while serving in the military, lead singer and songwriter, Matt Henson, set out to gather his thoughts to speak his truth to his son Liam, in the event that the worst came to pass, leaving the young man to grow up without a dad. It was a message to offer the fatherly advice and encouragement he feared he may not be present to give, a truth imparted the best way he knew how: through music. Matt recorded a demo with bass, guitar, and vocals, with the intent of circling back to the song when possible. About a year later, his bandmates surprised him with what they had added to his original recording. As moved as he was by the gesture, Matt remained uncertain about releasing it given the raw, emotional honesty of a song written for an audience of a single loved one, as well as its degree of departure when compared to a traditional NOi!SE song. Ultimately, the band will continue to speak their truth on all subjects. The raw honesty and intimate truths in this song, which will resonate with parental figures and children alike, will be shared with the world on a limited-edition picture flexi, featuring artwork by Liam himself!

With rabid audiences worldwide clamoring for a taste of Seattle rockers The Drowns’ latest album Blacked Out, a 7” single release was inevitable! This presented the band and Pirates Press Records with a unique conundrum, however: how do you pick a single with an entire album chock full of wall-to-wall rock ’n roll anthems and no “B-sides”? The only possible answer is this: the double A-side single “Just the Way She Goes” / “1979 Trans Am.” On an album of swaggering, glam-in- fused rock with punk heart, these two standout singles are bound to get fans’ motors revving and hips swaying, all the while building even greater anticipation for the forthcoming album! Both of these singles pay tribute to very different vehicles and the lifestyles that go with them. “Just the Way She Goes” examines the life of a rock band’s relationship with their cantankerous tour van, as a metaphor for perseverance and optimism in the face of life’s adversity. “We all break down from time to time,” relates singer & bassist Andy Wylie, while the music propels the listener forward with enough spirit and energy to overcome any setback. “1979 Trans Am” on the other hand, fronted by singer-guitarist Aaron Rev Peters, is The Drowns’ take on the classic rock ’n roll story of “boy-meets-girl, boy & girl go for a joyride in a classic muscle car,” with a steady backbeat that will get any listener moving!

“Billy Liar is one of my favorite songwriters. Powerful and honest.” - Tim Armstrong (Rancid) That’s one hell of a statement coming from Armstrong, a guy who knows his way around a tune as one of the most beloved songwriters in punk rock history. A single listen to Billy Liar’s new album “Crisis Actor” will have any listener agree with Armstrong. With this album, Billy Liar showcases his outstanding talent for storytelling and his ability to capture raw, unfiltered emotions that resonate with listeners on a deeply personal level. These songs are bold, brash, and destined to be played loud in any size venue Billy steps into, from a solo show at a DIY space to a full-band set on a giant festival stage and everywhere in between…all with fans screaming back every word! From the outset of “Crisis Actor,” Billy Liar commands the listener’s attention. From the opening track “Oblivion,” he pulls no punches when he sings “The only way I win is by not giving in to oblivion.” Throughout the album, Billy intricately weaves anecdotes, scathing social commentary, and self-realization to craft a record that will please old and new punks alike. Drawing the inevitable comparison to the legendary punk troubadour Billy, Mr. Liar shares Mr. Bragg’s ability to address society, politics, and the world at large through the lens of lived experience and deeply personal, confessional emotion. And just to put “Crisis Actor” over the top, a friend turns up to lend his familiar voice to one of the record’s highlights: the one and only Frank Turner joins Billy on “Negroni,” adding his trademark powerhouse grit to Liar’s boundless, exuberant energy. With “Crisis Actor,” Billy Liar is poised to step up as a central voice in a new wave of singer-songwriters ready to tell their tales to listeners across the world. Clocking in at just 28 minutes, this album is a proverbial uppercut to the jaw. It hits you hard and fast, but it is intricate enough to reward close repeat listens. This is fortunate, because you’ll find yourself dropping the needle on this one again and again! Whether armed only with his guitar or backed by a full band, Billy Liar will be traveling the globe, commanding stages of pubs, clubs, and arenas alike with this new set of tunes ready to catapult him into the hearts - and record collections - of punks worldwide!

To mark this milestone in their 20-year career Deecracks is releasing A Frantic Effort, a massive 3x10” colored vinyl retrospective compendium of their favorite songs from the past two decades. But don’t think for a second that Deecracks

would try to sell you a stodgy, frozen-in- amber “greatest hits” collection. “We decided

to revisit our career and re-recorded our favorites and what we think are the band’s classics, as well as two completely new songs,” says Mike. “This way, we have songs from 2003 up until 2023 on one album—and in one great sounding production.” “We decided to record some songs a little closer to how we would do them live but give them the studio treatment,” adds Matt. Indeed, the inspiration for the tracklisting is largely based on the band’s world-renowned live show, where the raw energy of seasoned punk rockers comes ripping out of every tune. And being able to revisit those tunes after road testing them for all these years inspired the band to add just the right amount of studio magic, including new vocal harmonies, guitar parts, or keys, while staying true to the live set. The pair of new songs, “Burnt Out” and “Where We Belong,” are a song about facing your demons and a straight-up love song, respectively—two sides of the Deecracks’ coin. They are certain to take their place in the band’s canon alongside this collection of revitalized classics for both longtime fans and newcomers alike. Or as Matt puts it, “I think if you don’t know what we are all about and you check out A Frantic Effort, you’ll get a clue.” Cheers to 20 years of Deecracks—and on to the next 20!

Pirates Press Records is thrilled to welcome Santa Cruz, CA’s Northern Soul outfit THE Inciters to the Pirates Family! This ten-piece combo of veteran players has been filling dance floors globally since the mid ’90s, electrifying audiences across the spectrum of skins, rudies, punks, mods, and rockers alike. No strangers to playing side by side with ska, punk, and Oi! bands, they are a natural fit to help expand Pirates Press Records’ roster of soul artists. “We wanted to keep it feeling live, not a ‘live album,’ but our energy. We recorded as much as possible all together. We had the rhythm section in the main room, the horns in a booth (a big booth), but [there was] also a large window so the horns could see the rhythm section. All the horns recorded at the same time so we could capture the feel. The singers were in another booth.” says trumpeter Rick Kendrick. “There was the usual overdubbing and whatnot, but for the most part this captures our energy...I guess you could say our ‘soul!’” These recordings are by far the band’s best work - capturing the energy and spontaneity of their live show—11 tracks of upbeat, hard-partyin’ soul stompers! The band can also be caught doing what they do best, embarking on their first European tour in over five years following the release of the LP.

For over 30 years, THE Slackers have remained one of the most prolific musical combos in the game. In the course of drawing from a seemingly endless well of songwriting creativity, the band has released music on some of the biggest labels in independent music, as well as on much smaller boutique ska & reggae labels across the entire world, including NYC’s Special Potato, which has served as home to many of the band’s home-brew releases over the decades. 2008’s Self Medication LP was one of the latter releases, initially released on CD through Indication Records, and a single pressing on black vinyl from Special Potato/ Indication. The record has been out of print for the ensuing 15 years and a tragically overlooked chapter in the band’s history. In the spirit of the title, Self Medication reflects the band’s DIY roots. Recorded by a longtime friend of the band, King Django (skinnerbox, Stubborn All-stars), at New Brunswick, New Jersey’s Version City Studios, this record is primarily an in-house affair, with overdubs overseen by singer/multi-instrumentalist Vic Ruggiero & guitarist Agent Jay Nugent at their own Studio Slack & Crazy Baldhead Studios, respectively. The sound of this record is that of a band who have the talent and the confidence to chart their course. Experimenting with a diverse sonic palette including elements of ska, reggae, swing, rock, and a lot of psychedelia, that nevertheless feels distinctly and unmistakably like them. And, of course, the band’s combination of earnest humanity and wry humor shines through in the lyrics, right from the opening line, “Every day is Sunday when you’re unemployed…” Indeed, this is the sound of THE Slackers as dictated by THE Slackers.

It is rare that any band displays the combination of talent and tenacity to continue connecting with audiences three decades into their career without becoming a cabaret show, but New York City ska/reggae institution THE Slackers continue to push boldly into the future with a fresh energy that belies their 30+ years! The band were on their creative rise during the mid-late ’90s explosion in mainstream interest in ska, but never lost a step when that bubble burst, emerging as a band that continually built up their fanbase the old-fashioned way: with relentless touring across the world and consistent recordings that always brought something new to the table. THE Slackers have pushed on long enough to be regarded as elder statesmen of a new era of interest in ska, but as always, rather than rest on their considerable laurels, this band is achieving new milestones on their own terms. One such milestone was the LP Don’t Let The Sunlight Fool Ya lighting up several Billboard Charts, including hitting #1 on the Current Reggae Albums chart. The album was the band’s first full-length since joining the Pirates Press Records family, a fruitful, creative relationship which has also yielded a slew of popular singles, as well as reissues of back catalog classics such as Redlight, Wasted Days, Peculiar, and the fanfavorite live album Live at Ernesto’s.

The ties that bind together bands know nothing of national borders or oceans between continents, and for punk bands on tour, these relationships run deep. The latest addition to American punk band THE Drowns (based in Seattle, WA) is guitarist Simon, who played for years with the UK's Wonk Unit. Simon and his former Wonk Unit bandmate Alex helped book THE Drowns on a UK tour, and when both bands met each other in full in London, they weren't just fast friends, but like family. On this release, each band contributes one brand new song. THE Drowns, armed with their sharp rock 'n roll sound, set their sights on a protest song about the state of the US in recent years, aptly titled "The Beast," while Wonk Unit opt for more personal territory with “Rebecca,” which deals with issues related to substance abuse, personal responsibility, and mental health. Taken together, the songs that comprise this split 7" represent two bands separated by geography, but united by friendship, mutual sonic admiration, and common purpose. Pirates Press Records is thrilled to bring them to the world on two colored vinyl variants, housed in an incredible spot UV jacket conceived by Zak Kaplan.

“It’s not the destination, it’s the journey” - Ralph Waldo Emerson If this famous quote is true, Kepi Ghoulie probably hopes never to reach the destination! On a musical journey now approaching 40 years, Pirates Press Records is proud to present Groovie GhoulieS’ Travels With My Amp!. Dating back to the year 2000 and out of print now for 20 years, this is the Groovie GhoulieS sixth official full-length studio LP… this would be the last album that the GhoulieS would record for the once popular, now defunct, Lookout! Records. Travels With My Amp! packs a few of the Groovie GhoulieS’ biggest hits: “The Highwayman” and “Bye Bye Brain,” along with perennial fan favorites “Hair Of Gold (And Skin Of Blue),” “(The Girl Is) An Unsolved Mystery,” and “Ghoulie Family.” The band returned for the third time to Sonic Iguana Studios in Lafayette, Indiana to have producer Mass Giorgini at the helm. The line-up consists of Kepi on vocals, Roach on guitar, B-Face on bass, and Amy on drums. The sessions were successful and the record was well received, but within a year the mismanagement of the label forced them to jump ship, and the GhoulieS, who did indeed love to travel, continued touring and found new homes for their new recordings.

Never content to simply rest on the considerable laurels of their back catalog, the first Sparrer studio album since the 1997 not only put a new release into the hands of the old faithful and new fans alike, but kicked off a renewed period of active international touring and headlining festival appearances that has continued to this very day.
