Having haunted stages across the UK for thebest part of a decade, the critical success oftheir 2024 sophomore full-length `Acts of Harm'gave caustic shoegaze outft Outlander pause torefect on their astounding 2019 debut, `The ValiumMachine', soon to be reissued by PelagicRecords on vinyl for the frst time.Written and recorded in 2018 over a handful of studio sessions in Stoke-on-Trent, `The Valium Machine'was a formative experience for Outlander in more ways than one. Prior to working on the album, the band would happily describe themselves as your standard, straight-down-the-middle post rockband but an openness to new infuences from the `90s slowcore and shoegaze scenes, the delicate, textural introduction of vocals and the pivotal decision to track the album in sprawling, full-band takeslead Outlander to fundamentally redefne their sound and scale; adding a pointed sense of dynamicand discordant dirge that lead to the four-piece sharing stages with trailblazing genre heavyweightsBossk and Grivo as well as breathtaking performances at festivals like Dunk! (BE) and ArcTanGent (UK).With beautiful artwork produced in partnership with street photographer Richard Lambert documentingthe colourful, everyday life of their beloved Birmingham, the initial run of `The Valium Machine'was limited to a criminally small 50 CDs through tiny local imprint FOMA. Now, fve years later, Outlanderowe their panoramic pace and formidable, funereal sound to those few days spent in Stoke-on-Trent and the band, along with Pelagic Records, believe this nascent recording deserves to beheard by many, many more.FOR FANS OF:Duster, Codeine, Swervedriver, Catherine Wheel, Kowloon Walled City

A maelstrom of music and metaphysics, a crushing conduit for connection, contemplation and catharsis; ritualistic power trio Pothamus return to this plane of existence with new album ‘Abur’, the highly anticipated spiritual successor to their colossal debut, ‘Raya’. The search for meaning stands central as a pillar of belief in the enigmatic world of Pothamus. Whilst blending eastern philosophy and western esotericism into a unique ontology, the band stay true to the fundamentals of music: sounds, instruments and bodies coming together just as they too drift away. To experience Pothamus is to open yourself to an immersive, out-of-body experience that transcends the ordinary and delves deep into the profound. The trio’s pounding drums, colossal bass and hypnotic guitars conjure something truly primal as devotional- like vocals speak of elemental forces older than time itself, receiving critical acclaim and paving the way for transcendental live shows at some of Belgium’s most prestigious venues and at international festivals such as ArcTanGent, ESNS, Motocultor and more. ‘Abur’, Pothamus’ sophomore full-length is an odyssey of truly epic proportions. As well as honing their already formidable live sound in the intervening years, the band have widened their musical palette in order to explore a truly original take on heavy music that steers them ever further away from welltrodden post-metal paths. On ‘Abur’ the Pothamus’ signature ritualistic sound is elevated by the glacial sounds of the Surpeti, an drone instrument originating from the Indian subcontinent traditionally used for mantra singing, whilst drummer Van Hulle adds his voice in harmony with guitarist Coussens’ to create an astounding richness and depth. Capturing Pothamus at their creative zenith was musical contemporary and close friend Chiaran Verheyden (Psychonaut, Hippotraktor) who recorded, mixed and mastered ‘Abur’. A 44-minute pilgrimage through nature, animism and the depths of the human soul, ‘Abur’ is Pothamus’ answer to the big, existential questions that keep us all awake at night. Titanic, all-consuming heaviness is met with ethereal, airy beauty as the band contemplates the interconnectedness of all things, creating a singular sonic universe balanced perfectly between cosmic creation and absolute destruction. 1. Louisville, Kentucky-based musician and artist Evan Patterson never planned for JAYE JAYLE to blossom from a stripped-down solo project into the otherworldly, full-band sonic experience that it is today. In the beginning, the songs were short and lighthearted, written on acoustic guitar with no intention of releasing them or even performing them publicly. Time, however, is a fickle thing.`After Alter' is an astounding collection of musical memories and emotional fragments, all drawn together from previous recording sessions and previous lives in order to chart a cathartic creative course into new, unknown territories. At once volatile, gut wrenching and serene; expect the unexpected.Raw remnants and lingering refrains from these pivotal moments are reframed to form a powerful reminder of what Jaye Jayle is and always has been: an unadulterated, unfiltered outlet for the sounds that pour out of Patterson's mind at any given time or place. `After Alter' is a document of the indecipherable, of feeting feelings dragged once again to the surface. Lead single and opening track `Father Fiction', for example, dives headlong into the fables and factious ideologies of organised religion with a hardened gaze and a wry smile as rolling drums and repetitive discordant guitar refrains spiral ever down into the labyrinth of meaning and misinterpretation. Elsewhere, `Fear Is Here' sees Jaye Jayle facing up to day-to-day examples of how terrifying everything around us can become within an instant as the song's truncated blues piano hook is pushed ever further, distorted over time into something strange and hideous whilst the crawling post-hardcore dirge of `A Blackout' serves as a searing critique of the American Dream; a nameless, homeless protagonist worships the alluring glow of billboard ads from their bed in the dirt on the side of the highway.Simultaneously both tracks five and eight though, the arresting `Bloody Me' is Jaye Jayle's dichotic, janiform identity made manifest. Written even before the b...

Having witnessed so much change over their 32 year career, Japanese post-hardcore legends envy have remained a steadfast and dominantforce within the country’s boundary-pushing heavy scene and beyond. With envy’s original roots in thrash-metal and screamo still word proudly on their sleeves, the band have steadily evolved their sound to incorporate euphoric elements of post-rock and shoegaze to spectacular efect. ‘Eunoia’, their 8th full-length release, is truly a landmark album; the perfect balance of aggression and elation that sees the band’s revitalised lineup exploring a latent sense of powerlessness in the face of a fractured and increasingly divisive world. Six years ago in 2018, founding envy members Nobukata Kawai and Manabu Nakagawa were joined by new members yOshi, Yoshimitsu Taki and Hiroki Watanabe before the freshly bolstered five piece were reunited onstage in a surprise return of the band’s original frontman, Tetsuya Fukagawa. This meeting of creative minds, between hardcore’s esteemed old guard and the latest generation to emerge from Japan’s innovative post-hardcore community, has subsequently seen envy reprise the abrasive thrash of early releases such as 1998’s genre-defining ‘From Here to Eternity’ and their collaborations with acts including Thursday and Jesu before imbuing it with lived experience, dynamic patience and the eerie uncertainty of the contemporary. As such, the band’s most recent release, 2020’s ‘The Fallen Crimson’ is an adrenaline rush of spoken word soliloquy; rich, reverberating guitar motifs and revitalised outburst of discordant post-hardcore fury. ‘Eunoia’, a word describing the mutual feeling of goodwill that exists between a speaker and their audience, takes this dichotomy of calm and chaos and distils it even further, showcasing the band truly in their element, both on stage and in the studio. Consisting only of songs that the band can and will play on stage, the album was written around the idea of searching for hope and inspiration from day to day life whilst feeling powerless against the weight of the world. As such, the band expected their conscious use of minor keys and Tetsuya’s candid, diary-like lyrics to produce a despairing and remorseful record. However, whilst these emotions are keenly felt through ‘Eunoia’, the album as a whole is far from defeated with sharp shards of light, warmth and hope piercing the gloom, just as all feels lost. However, it is ‘Imagination and Creation’, the album’s de facto opening track, that rings in our ears the loudest. Described by Nobukata as “a step forward into the future, using the past as nourishment”; blast beat drums and shrieking guitars propel a defiant and contagiously hopeful vocal melody into the unknown as a band with such a storied past learn to cherish the now as a means of bracing themselves for whatever happens next. 1. The immense success of Psychonaut's Pelagic debut album Unfold The God Man, which has been repressed 3 times throughout the pandemic and sold close to 3.000 vinyl copies to date, has proven that Psychonaut are a force to be reckoned with. Now, with the release of their sophomore album Violate Consensus Reality, the Belgian three-piece take you on a visceral trip into our collective human consciousness. A journey marked by explosive riffs, soaring vocals and intricate yet catchy compositions. An impressive album which cements Psychonaut's standing as aspirants to the throne of the contemporary European progressive / post metal community. Violate Consensus Reality engages the senses in a way that is quite rare for concept albums, it is raw and brutal, unlike the lofty concept albums of yore with their endlessly repeating motifs and needlessly complex song structures. It stands in a long tradition of activism in music, but it also deconstructs this tradition by taking its loud and admonishing tone and providing it with a thoughtful base rooted in philosophy and spirituality. Violate Consensus is not for the faint hearted, concept-wise but also music-wise as it contains some of the most gnarly riffs and technical playing on any Psychonaut record to date. Violate Consensus Reality constitutes a wild ride from the breakneck paced riffing of «A Pacifist's Guide To Violence», through the undulating neo-classical piano passages of «Hope» to the glorious finale of «Towards the Edge». The mantric title track opens with the angelic voice of Stefanie Mannaerts (Brutus) and slowly builds up to erupt in an explosive sermon delivered by Colin H. van Eeckhout (Amenra, Chve, Absent in Body), the appearance of both gifted musicians affirming Psychonaut's stature in the Belgian metal scene and beyond Psychonaut have played big Belgian open air festivals like Alcatraz, Rock Herk or Boomtown Festival and boutique festivals like Soulcrusher, Roadburn Redux or A Colossal Weekend. For over ten years French cinematic post- rockers Lost IN Kiev have been creating massive, narrative-driven atmospheric rock opuses that have brought them to play on renowned festivals like Dunk!festival and AMFest, as well as on tours with acts like Enslaved or Maserati. After three years of pandemic-induced inertia, the four gentlemen from Paris return with their new record Rupture which sees them turn the page to a new chapter in their considerable career. Being recorded in a live-setting, Rupture concerns the band's feelings about the drastic environmental changes that can be perceived all over the world. Casting their eco-angst into nine soaring and explorative tracks, Lost IN Kiev channel a sound that's raw and pristine, reaching an emotive power beyond anything they have done before. What sets Lost IN Kiev apart from their peers is not only the perfection of their produced sound but also their composition and musicianship_on Rupture their experience oozes through the cracks. With Rupture, Lost IN Kiev have delivered another tour de force that surpasses their previous outings in many ways. Every song is pure melancholic ecstasy and rapture, while it also sees the band tread new ground. Going through various layers of dynamic composition, these nine tracks easily suck you into the band's much needed narrative in which they lay bare their concerns and their anxieties. Rupture sees Lost IN Kiev at their most raw and authentic, and in a time where climate concerns need to be put back on the agenda, the album is a much needed experience: a gripping portrait of mankind's deteriorating relationship with its planet, this record will resonate with many fans of instrumental rock, both aesthetically and emotionally.

On Vinyl for the first time. Post-metal auteurs Burst (Sweden) announce return, 2022 remastered vinyl release of their classic 3 albums “Prey On Life” (2003), “Origo” (2005) and “Lazarus Bird” (2008). When Swedish progressive metal quintet Burst disbanded indefinitely after a string of acclaimed albums and an intense live catharsis in Gothenburg, Sweden in December 2009, it marked the end of a 15 year evolution. What started out as young, crusty hardcore band in the 90’s, developed into a unique blend of metal, progressive rock and hardcore, alternating grand atmospheres with abrasive metal and melancholy melodicism. During the following years, the die-hards kept the torch lit while new fans discovered the band’s catalogue, but apart from a one-off appearance at Spain’s Be Prog festival in 2018, the band has remained quietly slumbering. Until 2022. This fall, Pelagic Records will release individual standalone LP releases of the aforementioned albums - the first two for the first time ever on vinyl format. Originally released on CD through Relapse Records, the albums have been remastered and graphically refurbished in 2022, with all new artwork by R obert Samsonovitz. During their tenure, Burst mastered the art of continuous progression, always evolving, always treading uncarefully, never abiding. Burst’s live performances mirrored their albums; a display of meteoric ferociousness and heavy grooves, weaving effortlessly in and out of metallic outrage, stark melodies, and ethereal soundscapes.

Mysterious, multifaceted collective i Häxa have unveiled their epic self-titled, full length debut; a ground-breaking conceptual double album shaped by a collision of ancient gods and bleeding-edge technology_Released as four distinct Parts over the course of the year, `i Häxa' now comes together as a singular vision that weaves together genre-defiant soundscapes, abstract cinema and ancient meteorological mythologies from singer-songwriter and visual artist Rebecca Need-Menear (also of electronic alt-rock duo Anavae) and forward-thinking producer Peter Miles (Architects, Dodie, Fizz). i Häxa is a ritualistic dissection of the world as we know it, a forceful separation of the monotony of modernity from the rites and rituals that for centuries formed the foundations for who we are, how we came to be and where we claim to belong. Disjointed fragments of time collide. Two sides, one of logic and one of chaos, seeking unity and balance through an expression of freedom. This is i Häxa. Whilst the album is composed of four distinct movements, each consisting of four distinct tracks themselves; pulling them apart into easily digestible, standalone singles isn't an easy feat and, as is now clear from the project's sprawling cyclic nature, was never the intention. In an age of fast fun and instant gratification, the ties that bind these works together are intended to transcend tracklisting. With aural, visual and lyrical themes freely intertwining, i Häxa is something to be consumed whole; just as it will, in time, consume you. Charting an existential journey to the very depths of what makes us who we are, with every dark corner illuminated in glitched out, discordant glory; i Häxa is a project years in the making that draws simultaneously from rituals for old gods and the modern day deification of data. i Häxa is both heartwarming and horrifying; i Häxa is ancient history and hyper-real; i Häxa is everybody and no one at all.Check out if you like Radiohead, Julie Christmas, Agnes Obel, Bjork,...

Returning from time apart to a world forever changed, dread-fuelled duo A SWARM OF THE SUN bring with them their fourth studio album, `An Empire'; its brooding, yet beautiful, melancholic narrative arc allows the band to dig ever deeper into desolation whilst a newfound lyrical focus adds a tenderness that is both harrowing and heartwarming at once. With the early bones of forthcoming `An Empire' tabled by events beyond their control in 2019, Erik and Jakob came together years later and scrapped them in favour of creating something entirely new; something distinctly different to break the cycle, defy categorisation and reflect the uncomfortable uncertainties of the times we now live in. The result is astounding; continuing the thread of narrative composition seen on `The Woods', `An Empire' is a six-track tale told in four distinct movements that are nothing short of devastating, from plaintive piano ballads to raw, full-band fury. For instance, taken from the album's third side, lead single `The Burning Wall' embodies this sprawling compositional feat perfectly, with the painfully frank opening couplet of "I know I fail you / I know that I run" establishing a gripping narrative trajectory backed by a simmering, impatient pulse that slowly and inevitably rises to an inescapable crescendo of cymbal chaos and wall-of-sound guitar drone. Elsewhere, 18-minute epic `The Pyre' represents Side B of `An Empire' with the confessional intimacy of a waltz-time ballad; the raw, wavering emotion of Jakob's words accompanied only by a haunting, lilting piano refrain before it too is consumed by the bittersweet might of post-rock euphoria to leave only embers of the apocalyptic lyrics in its wake_`An Empire' marks a significant evolution of A Swarm of the Sun's already indelible post-metal sound. With increasingly bleak times forcing the band to reassess their relationship with creativity and suffering, this new body of work captures all the anthemic, intimate highs and crushing, debilitating lows of moder...

An all-encompassing aural assault, a force as unstoppable and fiercely alive as the tide. The post-rock powerhouse known as And So I Watch You From Afar have returned with their 7th studio album, ‘Megafauna’. A tribute to the two places the collective call home, their beloved Portrush on the Irish North Coast and the beating heart that is Belfast; ‘ Megafauna’ is headstrong exploration and heartfelt appreciation with all the intuition, intimacy and humour of four firm friends approaching their 20th year as a band and a nod to the Irish roots that simultaneously ground & propel them forward. Like so many other bands and creatives throughout the pandemic, ASIWYFA found themselves suddenly stationary, with any plans outside of their immediate vicinity put on indefinite hold. However, where this might have seen other acts falter, ASIWYFA took comfort in their communal bond and, as soon as they were able, began writing a record that quickly became a love letter to the communities they call home. “‘Megafauna’ is essentially a distilled moniker for our peers,” says guitarist Rory Friers, “all of the friends and characters that we’ve grown up with who’ve made us and our homes what they are today. Lockdown was an intensely introspective and reflective process, which put the comfort of community at the forefront of our minds. ”The intent behind ‘Megafauna’ is clear from the outset. Two guitars, bass and drums all recorded in a week erupt into effervescent life in an endorphin rush of collaboration and togetherness after the physical and psychological wilderness of isolation. Lead single ‘Do Mór’ is a preposterously playful collision of light-hearted guitar hooks, effortless jazz syncopation and the triumphant return of ASIWYFA’s inimitable wall-of-sound distortion, whilst opening track ‘North Coast Megafauna’ serves as an anthem for the whole album and perhaps for a band reinvigorated too; proudly wearing the joyously jarring confrontation of their sound on their sleeves. ‘Megafauna’ is the band’s first new music since 2022’s critically-acclaimed ‘Jettison’, an ambitious multi-media ensemble piece packed full of experimentation and collaboration. Jokingly referring to ‘Jettison’ as the band’s “mature record”, guitarist Niall Kennedy frames the writing of ‘Megafauna’ around the band’s long-running mantra of ‘DO THE SCARY THING’ which sees them constantly hurtling towards newness, towards progress, evolution and the unknown. Whilst the new record is ASIWYFA taking on a more familiar, traditional form; in this post-’Jettison’, post-pandemic world ‘Megafauna’ is a deafening and defiant statement of intent from the band’s propulsive core - a clarion call for the communities that shape them, a resplendent celebration of togetherness over separation. 1. THE OCEAN have traditionally been releasing parallel instrumental versions of all of their albums, which offer a different perspective and often different mix as compared to the vocal versions. „Heliocentral“ is the corresponding instrumental to their eponymous 2010 album „Heliocentric“, now released for the first time ever on vinyl! „Heliocentric“ was the first album with current vocalist Loïc Rossetti, a game changer in the band's history, which saw the band venture into calmer territories as compared to its predecessor: the album is defined not by walls of guitars, but by careful orchestrations of piano, upright bass, strings and textural electronics. Conceptually, „Heliocentric“ is a comprehensive critique of the legacy of christianity: the iconic opening track „Firmament“, still a fan's favourite, starts off with original text from the bible; while „Ptolemy Was Wrong“ and „Catharsis of A Heretic“ tackle Gallilei's and Copernicus' discoveries that Earth is not at the center of the universe, for which Giordano Bruno was burnt at the stake. The album concludes with Charles Darwin's theory of evolution, and considerations by Richard Dawkins', the spearhead of modern day's aetheism, in the epic 14 minutes closing track duality „The Origin Of Species“ and „The Origin Of God“. Since 2001, the Berlin-based musician collective THE OCEAN have released 10 critically acclaimed studio albums, and a split EP with Japanese post-rock legends Mono. With an ever-changing lineup of various on- and off-stage musicians and visual artists, the relentlessly touring group have become well known for their immense, mind-expanding live shows, which they have carried into the most remote corners of the globe, from Siberian squats to colonial theatres in Ecuador. Over the course of their storied career, The Ocean have toured with Opeth, Mastodon, Mono, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Anathema, Between The Buried And Me and Devin Townsend, and have appeared on major festivals including Roskilde, Dour, Pukkelpop, Roadburn, Wacken, With Full Force, Summer Slaughter, Summer Breeze and Graspop. The band's own Pelagic Records has also become one of Europe's leading labels for post-rock and post-metal, with a catalog of 120 releases since 2009. “The Ocean do for earth science class what Mastodon did for Melville: make learning brutal", Decibel wrote about 2007's Precambrian, Revolver describing it as a “Teutonic paean to Earth's geology“. 2013's seminal Pelagial, described as “a filmic ode to shifting moods, dichotomous influences and the musical personification of sinking towards the planet's deepest underwater points“ by Rock Sound, was a milestone for the band, and their most conceptual work to date, and was ranked #3 at LoudWire's “Best Metal Albums Of 2013”, and #5 in About.com's “2013 Best Heavy Metal Albums“. Returning with their 10th full-length album, ‘The Unseen’, French art-rock band Klone are pushing their already sumptuous sound to dizzying, magisterial heights. A bold new journey through a singular yet contrasting soundscape, ‘The Unseen’ is an immersive, dreamlike experience that speaks to thesignifcance of things that at frst glance seem to lack it. Emotive and conceptual, Klone have once again broken new sonic ground and built further on their signature expansive sound. Since the release of Le Grand Voyage in 2019 , French artrockers Klone have risen to new heights across the globe, touring in Europe ,USA , Australia , Mexico alongside the likes of Devin Townsend, Leprous, Riverside, Pain of Salvation, Gojira and blowing away festival crowds at Hellfest 2024, Prog Power USA, Midsummer Prog and Cruise to the Edge. Coming of the back of their phenomenal 2023 album ‘Meanwhile’, ‘The Unseen’ is a masterpiece of both performance and production that sees Klone wearing their years of experience proudly on their sleeves. With every member and every instrument pushed to its expressive limit, ‘The Unseen’ has a might and intensity to it that, whilst sometimes abrasive, simultaneously feels natural, coherent and unifed as the band move from motif and melody as one; guided as ever by the unmistakable voice and vision of Yann Ligner. Lead single and album opener ‘Interlaced’ is a breathtaking journey through rich, rhythmic depths; chiming intertwined guitars give way to a soaring, free-jazz inspired saxophone solo as lyrics exploring moments that allow us to rediscover our youth establish the introspective themes of the album as a whole. Elsewhere, eponymous track ‘The Unseen’ balances melancholy and optimism over a lilting, waltztime groove before the band dial up the distortion and Ligner’s voice breaks with an outpouring of lyrical vulnerability whilst another standout track, ‘Magnetic’, is a defant and direct ode to love with its simple yet undeniably efective structure building to a fst-pumping, pulse-racing crescendo. With such an inimitable 25 years of music already behind them, it seems apt that ‘The Unseen’ is also Klone’s 10th full-length release. The album serves as a milestone that uses refections on the past as a means of appreciating the beauty of the present, with the band employing their shared decades of creativity and collaboration to ofer enlightening new perspectives on the here and now. 1. After eight years, SOM stand at a pivotal moment. Three years after their critically acclaimed sophomore album The Shape of Everything (Pelagic Records) and a year following the release of Faith, an ambitious EP of Depeche Mode covers (Sonic Ritual Recordings), their forthcoming third full-length Let The Light In captures the band at its most introspective and adventurous. A study in contrasts, Let The Light In is simultaneously SOM’s catchiest and heaviest record, pushing boundaries with dissonance and noise while uncovering surprising moments of tranquillity; the calm within the storm. With a unique sound dubbed “Doom Pop” by Metal Injection, SOM’s dreamy shoegaze roots are on display but there is heaviness and heft at its core that is bracing and ferocious. If the band’s debut album The Fall explored hitting rock bottom and The Shape of Everything grappled with the ever-darkening world around us, Let The Light In sees SOM turn their sights inward, towards our most primal impulses; seeking solace and reconciliation from the vibrance within ourselves and the people we hold close. 1. Ivory coloured vinyl!A maelstrom of music and metaphysics, a crushing conduit for connection, contemplation and catharsis; ritualistic sludge-metal juggernauts Pothamus return to this plane of existence with new album `Abur', the highly anticipated spiritual successor to their colossal debut, `Raya'.The search for meaning stands central as a pillar of belief in the enigmatic world of Pothamus. Whilst blending eastern philosophy and western esotericism into a unique ontology, the band stay true to the fundamentals of music: sounds, instruments and bodies coming together just as they too drift away. To experience Pothamus is to open yourself to an immersive, out-of-body experience that transcends the ordinary and delves deep into the profound.`Abur', Pothamus' sophomore full-length is an odyssey of truly epic proportions. As well as honing their already formidable live sound in the intervening years, the band have widened their musical palette in order to explore a truly original take on heavy music that steers them ever further away from well-trodden post-metal paths. On `Abur' the Pothamus' signature ritualistic sound is elevated by the glacial sounds of the Surpeti, an drone instrument originating from the Indian subcontinent traditionally used for mantra singing, whilst drummer Van Hulle adds his voice in harmony with guitarist Coussens' to create an astounding richness and depth. Capturing Pothamus at their creative zenith was musical contemporary and close friend Chiaran Verheyden (Psychonaut, Hippotraktor) who recorded, mixed and mastered `Abur'.A 44-minute pilgrimage through nature, animism and the depths of the human soul, `Abur' is Pothamus' answer to the big, existential questions that keep us all awake at night. Titanic, all-consuming heaviness is met with ethereal, airy beauty as the band contemplates the interconnectedness of all things, creating a singular sonic universe balanced perfectly between cosmic creation and absolute destruction.FOR FANS OF: Amenra, Heilung, O...

The four-piece is conjuring up outstanding compostitions that are brimming with creativity, intensity and groove - music that is intricate and mature, yet gloriously anthemic at the same time.Though entirely instrumental, reducing the band's contemporary sound to the term ,post-rock" wouldn't do this EP justice: there is much more to it than lengthy dramatic build-ups and bittersweet melodies played by delay-drenched guitars. "I'm obsessed with late 90's Meshug- gah, early Dillinger Escape Plan, and early Cult of Luna," explains guitarist Pierre Carroz deftly about the influences behind the sound of his brainchild. Combining the sonic agility of the American math-core pioneers with the relentless ferocity of the Swedish progressive metal innovators, Herod produce a brand of heavy music that is truly face melting. Having played with le- gendary metal acts like Obituary, Napalm Death and Carcass, Herod are no strangers to the international metal scene, and it shows in the calibre of their music. Their upcom- ing third album The Iconoclast puts the full power of their artistry on display, redefining musical heaviness and atmosphere at every turn imaginable.Iconoclast sees the Swiss quintet paint with a consistent palette of groovy syncopated riff- ing, heavy breakdowns, and a diversity of vocal techniques and deliveries. Using similar col- ours and textures to create many different pictures, it's an approach that feels almost experi- mental. Like great abstract painters like Kazimir Malevich or Jackson Pollock, Herod continue to develop their technique and method throughout their oeuvre.Iconoclast is a creation of pure magnificence, combining an undeniable artistic mindset with the best of what modern metal has to offer. «The Edifice» features the incredible Matt McGachy from Canadian technical death metal legends Cryptopsy while the album closer sees the band collaborate with long-time friend Loi"c Rosetti: «The Prophecy» poses him against a most ferocious backdrop, capturing two amazing vocalists of the past and present Ocean Col- lective teaming up and facing off, since Herod's vocalist Mike Pilat was the main vocalist on The Ocean's «Precambrian» album (2007).Etched D-Side!FOR FANS OF Meshuggah, Gojira, Cult of Luna, LLNN, Vildjharta, Primitive Man, Uneven Structure

"Their sophomore album Origo puts Burst in a class of their own as a genre-defying progressiverock/metal act." - Lambgoat - "Origo is a grower in the truest sense of the word" - Blabbermouth - Post-metal auteurs BURST (Sweden) announce return, 2022 remastered vinyl release of their classic 3 albums "Prey On Life" (2003), "Origo" (2005) and "Lazarus Bird" (2008).When Swedish progressive metal quintet BURST disbanded indefinitely after a string of acclaimed albums and an intense live catharsis in Gothenburg, Sweden in December 2009, it marked the end of a 15 year evolution. What started out as young, crusty hardcore band in the 90's, developed into a unique blend of metal, progressive rock and hardcore, alternating grand atmospheres with abrasive metal and melancholy melodicism. During the following years, the die-hards kept the torch lit while new fans discovered the band's catalogue, but apart from a one-off appearance at Spain's Be Prog festival in 2018, the band has remained quietly slumbering. Until 2022.This fall, Pelagic Records will release "A Labyrinth of Layers" - an exclusive vinyl box set of the classic triptych Prey On Life (2003), Origo (2005) and Lazarus Bird (2008), as well as individual standalone LP releases of the aforementioned albums - the first two for the first time ever on vinyl format. Originally released on CD through Relapse Records, the albums have been remastered and graphically refurbished in 2022, with all new artwork by Robert Samsonovitz.During their tenure, BURST mastered the art of continuous progression, always evolving, always treading uncarefully, never abiding. Burst's live performances mirrored their albums; a display of meteoric ferociousness and heavy grooves, weaving effortlessly in and out of metallic outrage, stark melodies, and ethereal soundscapes. To celebrate the reissues, the band announced their new partnership with Doomstar Bookings and a short string of live performances in the Nordic this coming November, with more European p...

PSYCHONAUT and SAVER are akin in many ways: both artists embody and explore corporal, physical heaviness in their sound as much as spirituality and philosophy, both artists often stretch their compositions close to the 20 minutes mark, and both artists redefine the concept of the classic power trio within a context of genre-bending, modern heavy music: where SAVER plea for calculated minimalism, PSYCHONAUT employ an arsenal of percussion instruments on their recordings, and it is even more so astonishing how well they manage to reduce the polyphonic assault to the trio in a live setting.PSYCHONAUT literally came from out of nowhere -Mechelen, Belgium, to be precise. Their 2020 album Unfold The God Man showcases excellent musicianship and songwriting abilities, heavily influenced by 70's bands like Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd, but also drawing inspiration from contemporary heavy artists like Tool or Amenra.SAVER from Oslo, Norway delivered an equally astounding debut album of sublime heaviness, shimmering moogs, abrasive vocals and a devastating, gnarly bass tone. Their jaw-dropping performance at the renowned Oya Festival in Oslo in the summer before the pandemic, accompanied by mesmerizing visuals on a huge screen, was a foreboding of what to expect from this band in the future.Side 1 - PSYCHONAUT - The Great Realisation - Side A - SAVER - Dimensions Lost, Obscured By Aeons -FOR FANS OF Mastodon, Russian Circles, Tool, Neurosis, Gojira, The Ocean, Pelican, Cult Of Luna, Amenra

Three years after their critically acclaimed sophomore album The Shape of Everything (Pelagic Records) and a year following the release of Faith, an ambitious EP of Depeche Mode covers (Sonic Ritual Recordings), their forthcoming third full-length "Let The Light In" captures the band at its most introspective and adventurous.A study in contrasts, Let The Light In is simultaneously SOM's catchiest and heaviest record, pushing boundaries with dissonance and noise while uncovering surprising moments of tranquillity - the calm within the storm. With a unique sound dubbed "Doom Pop" by Metal Injection, SOM's dreamy shoegaze roots are on display but there is heaviness and heft at its core that is bracing and ferocious. If the band's debut album The Fall explored hitting rock bottom and The Shape of Everything grappled with the ever-darkening world around us, Let The Light In sees SOM turn their sights inward, towards our most primal impulses: seeking solace and reconciliation from the vibrance within ourselves and the people we hold close.Since 2019, SOM have toured extensively across North America, Europe and the UK alongside acts including Katatonia, Solstafir, Slow Crush, Holy Fawn, O'Brother, Defeater, Gost, and Rosetta. These hard-earned experiences across 21 countries, coupled with 2023's introspective restructuring, have profoundly altered their creative approach. Impassioned late night conversations in the bus, heartfelt disagreements and the endless euphoria of playing to audiences around the globe have only added to a wealth of lived experience and musical growth, resulting in a more nuanced, explorative and emotionally charged songwriting process. As they approached this new material, the members of SOM found themselves in a fresh headspace, armed with a newfound maturity. Let The Light In is SOM's testament to resilience and evolution. Born from challenge and change, the album pulses with confidence and catharsis, im...

GATFOLD-COVER Brand new album by Australia's leading sludge-/ post-metal band! For Fans of: OLD MAN GLOOM, CURSED, CULT OF LUNA, BURST, CONVERGE, BREACH, BLACK BREATHLo!'s 3rd full length album VESTIGIAL pushes the band to the next level. The songs are well-crafted and have a larger scope, the sound is heavy yet organic, there is a great harmonic density behind the stupefyingly heavy riffs and the band sounds tighter than ever before. One of the reasons might be that drummer Adrian Griffin, who had spent the last 7 years in Asia, moved back to Australia. "This time we had much more time to all be together as a band and really work on the songs properly instead of the last minute rush that usually happens. I think we all felt more connected now having Adrian back in the country", comments guitarist Carl Whitbread.A world where politics resemble black comedies, where guns have become an aspect of culture and where addiction to technology is the norm is at the lyrical heart of VESTIGIAL. "There are several repeated characters throughout the album; the JUDAS STEER, the LOCUST CHRIST... these are anti heroes, the wolves among sheep figuratively. The ghastly Donald Trumps, The Kim Jong-Uns, the extremists and ignorant tyrants of our modern lives", comments Dillon. After a European tour supporting Cult Of Luna in 2013, including a performance at Roadburn Festival, the bandwill be back in Europe this October to present VESTIGIAL.

The monolithically heavy, uniquely mercurial UK quartet Sugar Horse return with their new album The Grand Scheme Of Things to bereleased 4th October via Pelagic Records. A lot of people take the name Sugar Horse to be a drug reference - perhaps fitting for a band that sound like the last moments of a three-day binge. Darting wildly between dark/light, pain/bliss, sacred/profane, Sugar Horse are unpredictable and unrestrained. In typical Sugar Horse fashion "This album was intended to be a sideways step. A move away from the kind of thing that is expected of us… if anything is at all.” A much more direct, to-the-point album, The Grand Scheme Of Things recalls elemental bands as disparate as Sleep, Oceansize, Mogwai and The Cure. Recorded almost entirely live in one of Bristol’s most derelict churches (the aptly-named All Hallows Hall), the history of the location practically pulses through the monumental record. You can almost hear the floorboards creaking, old lightbulbs flickering – fittingly dilapidated atmosphere for an album concerned with the end of life. A meditation on the journey toward death, The Grand Scheme Of Things is the outlet for singer AshTubb - a funeral pyre even - for his late father, who passed away just as work on this record was beginning. The creaking floorboards, flighty lightbulbs and more demonstrate a soul, once alive and all too human, now leaving for somewhere else. An album full of gravity, then, and Sugar Horse’s most profound work yet. A bold claim considering Sugar Horse are a group well-known within the UK scene for their uncompromising approach. Formed in the utopian dreamscape of 2015, Sugar Horse initially grew slowly. Their 2019 release DRUJ followed swiftly by 2020’s DRUGS saw the band hit on a relentless stride of eclectic releases that simultaneously confused and entranced audiences. For their recent tour with label mates LLNN, the 2 bands have released a split 7“ with one new track by each artist. Sugar Horse have previously toured with post-rock luminaries 65daysofstatic across Europe, as well as dates with Pianos Become The Teeth, Liturgy, Chat Pile and an appearance at Arc- TanGent festival. 1. Time to resound the trumpet as Australian blackened sludge veterans Lo! return with another grand infernal vision, captured in capital riffs and gargantuan grooves! After the universal acclaim of the band's 2017 studio endeavour Vestigial the Australian interstate quartet show no intention of slowing down with The Gleaners_a soul-ripping hell-ride across nine visceral anthems; an affair of raw violence with a touch of sophisticated madness. Lo! herald the end of the existing order of things, executing crushing judgement upon those tyrants who put the poor to powder. On The Gleaners Lo! firmly continue in the vein of their much-lauded third album, setting an over-arching storyline with multiple characters to a symphony of sonic death and destruction. "Vestigial opened up the writing arena for Lo! in many ways," explains guitarist and main-songwriter Carl Whitbread about the predecessor of The Gleaners. "We created an album of anthems without losing the groove or viciousness of performing live, using defined characters and themes that are revisited and interwoven across the record, while also experimenting with atmospheric and cinematic samples to breathe life into the recording."Above all, this record is nothing but a firm rattling of your cage - and who could expect something else from the minds of this Australian quartet who have been churning out nothing but stellar sludgy blackened hardcore over the past twelve years? Like a Hieronymus Bosch painting, the storyline of The Gleaners has little of a focal point, the characters crawl all over the place - its chaos is complete - but somehow its impact is phenomenal. Lo! have gone and done it again, creating a terrifying vision of the infernal madness of our reality that shakes you to your core!FFO Converge, Baptists, Black Breath, Mastodon, Trap Them, LLNN

German post-metal formation THE Ocean will release their new album "Holocene" in May 2023, as usual there is an instrunemtal album available as well. With Holocene, The Ocean add the new and final chapter in their paleontologically inspired album series. This time, the hardness of the collective is extended by some electronic dimensions. Founded at the beginning of the millennium, the group of musicians around guitarist Robin Stapps has not lost its intensity even after more than 20 years. The Ocean come together each time with a shared vision of boundless sonic exploration, never standing still, the band enjoys a stellar reputation in the genres of post-rock, progressive metal and even hardcore. Robin Staps commented on the final work in the Paleontological album series: "Holocene is an appendix to the 2 Phanerozoic albums and Precambrian, or the final and concluding chapter, making it a quadrilogy if you will. It deals with the Holocene, the most recent and shortest chapter in Earth's history, but essentially it's an album about fear, alienation, the loss of reason and critical thinking, the rise of conspiracy theories and the deconstruction of values in modernity." On the creation process and electronic basis of the new tracks, he adds: "The writing process of every album we've ever done started with me coming up with a guitar riff, a drum beat or a vocal idea. This album is different because every single song is based on a musical idea originally written by Peter (Voigtmann, synthesizer). He came up with these amazing synth parts that sounded great even in pre-production, and he sent me some of these raw, unfinished ideas in the middle of "Lockdown 2020"... and even though it was all electronic, it had this definite Ocean vibe to it. I immediately wanted to pick up my guitar.... And I did, and it wasn't long before we had an inspiring creative exchange that went in completely unforeseen but very exciting directions." Mono have long drawn equal inspiration from the light and dark of life, spawning more than two decades of musical turbulence and melodic transcendence. Heaven Vol. 1 marks the beginning of a new annual tradition from Mono: A new EP released on Christmas Day each year, leaning into the light at precisely the time when we need it the most - surrounded by loved ones and hopeful for what the turn of the calendar may bring us. Recorded by Takaakira `Taka' Goto at his home studio in Japan (with drums recorded by Amak Golden at Golden Hive Studio in Prague) - and mixed by Rafael Anton Irisarri and Jeremy deVine at Black Knoll Studio in New York - Heaven Vol. 1 finds Mono at their most hopeful and cinematic. Of each of Heaven Vol. 1's three tracks, Mono offers these words: Lucia: "This song was written when our beloved longtime partner Jeremy (the owner of our American label Temporary Residence Ltd.) welcomed his second child. The song is constructed with two parts; the first part celebrates the birth of a new life and the second part heads towards dreams and hope. We wrote this song with the feeling of Santa Claus riding a sleigh through the snowstorm, smiling, jumping into the swirl of pure white light and carrying many dreams." Smile: "We drew upon the snowy scenery of Christmas that we experienced when we were young. Your exhaled breath is white. Your heart is dancing in the endless silvery white world, and when you are about to grab the snow with your hands and turn around, your parents look back at you with a smile. We wrote this song whilst remembering moments like this." Silent Embrace: "Time passed and we became adults. Life is like climbing and descending many steep mountains, but the reason we're still able to continue walking is because of our loved ones, colleagues, friends and family who quietly stand by us and giving us courage and strength. We wanted to express our gratitude with this song."

China's leading post rock band Wang Wen are releasing their 12th album on March 10th, the follow-up to much acclaimed 2021's "100.000 Whys" "Wang Wen's new album Painful Clown & Ninja Tiger is named after the traditional Chinese method of chronology year name < Xin-Chou & Ren-Yin >(dedf & DEDD).The two years just passed by. The sexagenarian cycle of the Chinese calendar is like the FE- against-FD polyrhythm in music. Two separate paths that travel six times through the Heavenly Stems and five times through the Earthly Branches and then reunite. However, this is just a superficial interpretation. The reality is the dark side has been approaching and countless miserable accidents occurred in front of us. All the savage and dictatorship come back, repeating itself over and over again in a dead loop in the history, which becomes less distant and fuzzy nowadays. They are not just "years","people" or "places" that we read in books. They jump out suddenly in front of us, turning into vivid and bare details that we are confronted with every day. To put it simply: this album was composed and recorded in those two years, and it records the life experience of the band in those two years, hence the name. Frokedal is a popular folk singer-songwriter whose haunting vocals have scored the music of various acclaimed bands over the past decade. The members of Sa^ver are veterans of the Norwegian heavy scene. Having toured all over the world playing renowned festivals like Roadburn and Psycho Las Vegas, they now fill and orchestrate the gap between eerie softness and furious anger as a three-piece atmospheric sludge metal ensemble. This split 10" sees each of these artists present a song from the respective other artist's back catalogue, finding a transcendental middle ground between the other artist's musical realm and their own sphere. Commenting on the beginning of her own musical career, Frokedal notes: "Because everyone has a computer these days there's no limit to how many times you can multi-track. I [was] sick of that. I hoped to go the other way - to remove as much as I could and be left with a beating heart." Remarkably, Sa^ver have done just that in their execution of Frokedal's track «Shot-Put», turning down their guitars to give space to clean vocals and laying bare the synths that are an integral part of their sound. Driven by deep drones and soft layered vocals, the Homeric simile of a meeting at the shot put becomes even more compelling, turning the folksy original into a haunting ambient rock opus. In turn, Frokedal lays bare the heart of «I Vanish» from Sa^ver's debut LP in a gently swaying but bewitching folk version. In a world somewhere between the triple harmony magic of The Staves and the polyphonic madness of Le Myste`re des Voix Bulgares, Anne Lise conjures the unsettling path towards obliteration. Many things can be said about the way these songs sound and even about how they transcend the originals in some ways, but the true beauty of this EP lies in the way both Frokedal and Sa^ver incline towards each other to find a middle ground that is yet unexplored in their respective careers. Coming together, they prove that beauty is found in the eye of the beholder, but transcendence is found in the eye of the storm!

After the ambitious A Distant (Dark) Source (2018) and the subsequent artistic triumph of its live recording in 2021, French avant-garde metal outfit HYPNO5E return with their sixth studio album. Once more, these four visionary musicians and cinematographers take us back to the lost shores of the palaeolithic Lake Tauca, where we dive deeper into its dark source to fnd vibrant visions of a memory both distant and hazy as well as warm and evocative. Sheol shows HYPNO5E at the top of their game, revealing the epitome of their idiosyncratic sound while also exploring new and exciting aspects of their artistic identity.Since 2006 HYPNO5E have been taking grand strides in honing their brand of cinematographic metal, with each of their albums developing elements that would become essential building blocks to their sound. Their 2007 debut album Des Deux l'Une Est l'Autre harnessed a raw, chaotic energy, while the following Acid Mist Tomorrow (2012) saw them apply a hazy filter to their ferocious sound. On Shores of the Abstract Line (2015) HYPNO5E already transformed into the true modern metal grandmasters they are today, while the special soundtrack album Alba - Les Ombres Errantes explored a more subdued acoustic side of the band.Sheol sees the band sounding warmer and brighter than anywhere else in their storied discography, and the arrival of new drummer Pierre Rettien and bass player Charles Villanueva adds a fresh touch the classic HYPNO5E sound. We are excited to welcome French avant-garde metal duo WuW to our ever-expanding roster of for- ward-thinking artists. Inspired by classical music, free jazz and drone the two classically trained brothers Benjamin and Guillaume Colin have been creating lo-f experimental post-doom epics in the vein of Year of No Light, Dirge and Omega Massif since 2016. "WuW is the sound wind makes when it blows on a hot night," explains the band, "It's a low-end murmur that grabs you by the guts, a blast of air rushing through the mountains and the oceans." Their upcoming third album Orchaostre is an anthem to a restless journey, a fve-part doom symphony that creates a shroud of oppressive atmospheres with only a pinch of light. With their third studio album, WuW deliver a veritable post-metal odyssey, one that takes you on a journey through rhythm and texture and that lets your soul wallow in a soft shell of desolation. The marching rhythm of «Orchaostre 1» and the swaying rhythm with the slow chugging patterns of «Orchaostre 2» take you along on this intric- ate journey, slowly numbing the senses in the throes of repetition. Nevertheless, for those who manage to keep their eyes peeled on this descend into forgetfulness, there is a world of beauty and a spark of hope to be found. The atmosphere is thick, the mood is heavy, and across the slow rifs and funerary drumbeats, the wailing e-bow guitars and myriad of synthesisers evoke kafkaesque at- mospheres as well as strange poignant textures that inspire desolation. Evoking the work of early electronic music innovators, notably during the climactic fnale of «Orchaostre 1» but also halfway through «Orchaostre 3» WuW breed a sense of pristine beauty, like unadulterated nature. In fact, the beauty of Orchaostre feels so un- spoilt, so devoid of any human infuence, it becomes alien, resulting in a harrowing ex- perience of the exquisite in the eye of a hot and hazy storm.FOR FANS OF Russian Circles, Year of No Light, Dirge, Omega Massif, Neurosis, Telepathy, Cele...

While their 2018 EP Monolith provided a promising indication of their son- ic ambition, it was their debut LP The Machine is Burning and Now Everyone Knows It Could Happen Again which really set off the trig- ger. Receiving rave reviews around the globe and selling out the first vinyl pressing of 3.000 copies within less than a year, BRUIT= have no need to prove themselves beyond what they have already achieved so far.Consisting of three musical meditations, Apologie du Temps Perdu [Eng. apology for time wasted] sees BRUIT= cut down on their massive sound in favour of a more subtle contem- plation. In contrast with their recent streaming single «Parasite (The Boycott Manifesto)» with its direct message for Spotify CEO Daniel Ek and his listeners, the band have seemingly forgone their activist agenda paring back the grand thematic gestures and poignant spoken-word excerpts. Instead, BRUIT= let the music do the talking, reaching an activism which is more visceral, but all the more personal. "This ambient EP is conceived as a comma between our first album and the next one," explains bass player & violinist Cle'ment Libes about the purpose of this record. "It is an invitation to lose time, a parenthesis in the frantic race of our society."Existing somewhere between the grand genius of soundtrack composers like Hans Zim- mer and Ramin Djawadi, and the experimental prowess of fringe pop artists like Radio- head and Darkside, Apologie du Temps Perdu reveals the hidden power of film scores. We all know that moment in which we cease to be conscious of the musical accompani- ment and we become truly absorbed in the story. The music becomes part of scenery, and in this moment we lose track of time. Talking of his own work Ramin Djawadi (Game of Thrones, Westworld) notes: "If you were to turn the picture off, there is a story there and a connection to the characters and the plots." In the same way, through the sweeping strings...

Norwegian grammy award-winning noise rock outfit Årabrot return with a new Heart EP which sees the eclectic duo of Kjetil Nernes and Karin Park leading us right into the band's heart of hearts. These songs come right off the back of last year's seminal Norwegian Gothic, which was described by main-songwriter Nernes as "an amalgamation of all of our influences," but also as "a good indication of what to come."Where the band's nineth studio album effectively marries the past and the future, the Heart EP is most of all about the present. Yes, these are four cover songs of tracks that find their origin in various stages of the band's career («Children of the Revolution» goes all the way back to the band's first recording session for their debut EP ), but they are also a radiant expression of where the band is now, with Nernes and his wife Karin Park as the dual creative spirits and driving forces behind Årabrot.Opening the incredible heart-shaped vinyl edition of this release is the enigmatic «Preludium» which superimposes the sensual moaning of a couple engaged in intercourse over the saintly sounds of a church organ. Here Årabrot lead us right into the holiest of holy, but also into the carnal heart of the band. What follows is an eclectic selection of four tracks that span across fifty years and across various genres of music, but for Nernes and Park it is no trouble to fit them right into their signature gothic-western desert noire sound. The combination of noise rock and 70s psychedelic rock works undeniably well and the result is a collection of songs that feels timeless yet deeply ingrained in the heart of our collective culture. In spite of 20 years of experience and nine studio albums, Årabrot remain one of the most criminally underrated bands on the planet, and the Heart EP is the living and throbbing proof of this fact. Kjetil Nernes is right up there with noise rock visionaries like Michael Gira (SWANS) and Jamie Stewart (XIU XIU), and the combination of his underrated musiciansh...

Somewhere between the late 1990s and the early 2010s, the rif largely disappeared from mainstream rock & pop. Its transformative power - the rif as a means to transport the listener into another dimension - became an art cherished only in the underground of rock and metal. One of the strong proponents of that transformative power is Astrosaur, an overlooked gem in the international heavy psyche rock and post- metal scene. The Norwegian power trio has been employing the rif as their principal mode of transport since their 2017 debut album Fade In // Space Out. Now, with the release of their third album Portals, Astrosaur are sounding more expansive and convincing than ever, delivering an intuitive exploration of the infnite powered by soaring guitars and surging grooves. With their third full-length album, Astrosaur have delivered an incredibly diverse and musically challenging and satisfying experience, showing that this band is greater than the sum of its truly great parts. Over the course of fve tracks and 48 minutes, the band use the best traits of the aforementioned genres to take you on a sonic journey into the deepest caverns of space and time. First single «Black Hole Earth» is masterclass soaring post-rock guitars, with its magnifcent main melody, which is ofset against a blistering desert rock rif, like a star ship phasing in and out of hyperspace, alternating between crushing your guts and showing you the most marvellous views of deep space. From a compositional viewpoint, «Eternal Return» is a mind-blowing afair. This giant psychedelic prog epic has been built from diferent themes and motifs that take turns in appearing, shifting form and developing as they go along. Segueing into new themes or returning to earlier ones, «Eternal Return» gloriously comes full circle, ending the mind-boggling journey of Portals. With the addition of vibraphones, Moog and acoustic guitars, the sound of Astrosaur is fuller and more diverse than ever before. From the soaring overture of «Opening» to the glorious fnale of «Eternal Return», Portals shows the next great post-metal band at their most accomplished. Fans of dynamic rifs and intricate compositions can once again rejoice as they're able to tune in and fade out once more with another wild ride courtesy of this exciting Norwegian powerhouse. After five years of radio silence Sweden's most accomplished cinematic post-rock ensemble EF return with a stunning comeback studio album which channels the band's raw emotion and aptitude for melancholia, capturing their signature sound in unprecedented clarity and richness. We Salute You, You and You! is the picture capturing a thousand words, like the first light of day falling on your face or the exuberant smile of a young lover_ it is the dance of eternity in the single moment: a warm "welcome back!" for long-time fans and a resounding "nice to meet you!" for those who yet have to get to know the great four-piece from Gothenburg. For over 20 years EF have been bridging the divide between the sublime and the fragile with magistral compositions characterised by moments of emotional catharsis and marked human frailty. Combining the indie rock mannerisms of EXPLOSIONS IN THE SKY with the hardcore attitude of MOGWAI and the orchestral approach of GODSPEED YOU! BLACK EMPEROR, EF capture the magic of post-rock around the turn of the millennium, when the genre was still young and freshly exciting.Their 2006 debut album Give Me Beauty_ Or Give Me Death! is an underrated post-rock classic that marked the start of a storied career with many seminal studio albums ahead of them. However after 15 years that fabled career seemed to come to an end as: after one last performance at Pelagic Fest in Berlin in 2018, the members of EF became quiet and little was heard of them since.Mastered by Magnus Lindberg, We Salute You, You and You! is a veritable celebration of the grandeur of post rock. From the giant ringing piano intro of album opener Moments of Momentum to the massive syncopated bass lines of Wolves, Obey! all the way to the enchantingly beautiful lone horn break on Apricity and the intricate union of horn section, strings and band in the climactic build-up of Chambers. Sprinkled throughout the record are countless instances of these little grand moments and gestures. EF have opened their treasure trove to show what's still in it, and it is full of riches. But We Salute You, You and You! is not just induging in past glory, it is also transcending the narrow realm of instrumental rock: almost all tracks on the album have vocals this time around, and even screamed vocals make a debut in EF's discography here. "We've previously had pretty heavy aggressive parts in songs, but we've never screamed," explains A°strom once more. "With this album we've tried to be more direct, more consistent. Maybe take it back a few notches to rhyme better with our youth as hardcore musicians. The screaming just came naturally." EF have tremendously broadened their sonic palette with this album, while at the same time staying true to their charismatic formula of sound which we love them for. With a host of immediately memorable melodies and truly sublime compositions, the four from Gothenburg have once more delivered an overwhelming experience of glorious wistfulness and melancholia - an album which is right up there with the classics that have inspired them.

Private Collection' is Karin Park at her purest, rawest and most beautiful essence: an album stripped down to the core of her mesmerizing voice and the haunting sound of the pump organ. An introvert and intimate album that shows her not just as a stellar musician but as a mother, a wife and a humble human being. Karin Park has been referred to as the Scandinavian Nico for her persona, and dark ambient legend Lustmord called her a "force of nature". However, despite a Eurovision song contest entry, a year of sold out shows as the lead in Les Miserables in Oslo and performances alongside Lana Del Rey and David Bowie, Karin's talents have still remained somewhat under-exposed for the really broad public. This might change now, with a stunning new album and an extensive European tour with A.A. Williams this fall. "This record is very much a journey in solitude that I've been longing to make," Karin tells us about her seventh studio album. Consisting of nine re-recordings - with radically diferent instrumentation - of classic tracks from her impressive back catalogue, as well as the newly written opener «Traces of Me», Private Collection is the quintessential expression of Karin Park's artistry. "These are my favourite songs from 20 years of writing, re-recorded as I hear them now. Many of these versions are how I play them live, alone with my synths, mellotron and organ." Joining her on some tracks are her husband Kjetil Nernes (A°rabrot) on guitars and Andrew Liles (Nurse With Wound) on synths, as well as Benedetta Simeone on cello. Otherwise, Private Collection is indeed a very private affair. On Private Collection, Karin Park marries the past with the present. Her idiosyncratic and charismatic mezzo-soprano voice has often been compared to iconic female voices such as those of Kate Bush or Bjo"rk, but it is with these familiar timbres that she portrays a world that is truly unique to her. Dark, alien and brooding, but nevertheless oozing with familiarity and coziness. "That's why I had to go all the way to California," she sings on «Glasshouse» and before you know it, you'll fnd yourself singing along, convinced that somewhere in your own past you travelled to the Sunshine State. Somewhere in that line, and in many others, lies an inexplicable persuasive power that convinces us to believe that her world is also our own world. "I say the magic word, 'till you're beside me," she sings on «Bending Albert's Law», capturing an everyday magic of domestic darkness. Private Collection reveals the humanity behind the force of nature called Karin Park, and in that cavernous church, the sound of her presence foats under the high ceiling, but at the same time she is next to you, near. Her breath in your ear, her silence in your heart. Limited pink vinyl version (Shine Edition)!

For over ten years French cinematic postrockers Lost IN Kiev have been creating massive, narrative-driven atmospheric rock opuses that have brought them to play on renowned festivals like Dunk!festival and AMFest, as well as on tours with acts like Enslaved or Maserati. After three years of pandemic-induced inertia, the four gentlemen from Paris return with their new record Rupture which sees them turn the page to a new chapter in their considerable career. Being recorded in a live-setting, Rupture concerns the band’s feelings about the drastic environmental changes that can be perceived all over the world. Casting their eco-angst into nine soaring and explorative tracks, Lost IN Kiev channel a sound that’s raw and pristine, reaching an emotive power beyond anything they have done before.

Nothing raises the spirit like the soaring guitars and evocative atmospheres of post-rock, and in the past 2 years we needed it more than ever: to be dragged out of the quicksand of apathy, to be reminded of what it means to feel alive_ Philadelphia-based fve-piece Hiroe (pronounced `hero-way') deliver 5 stunning tracks that serve this purpose more than anything else we've heard this year. Hiroe's architecture is built over the walls of sound created by the band's three guitarists Eric Kusanagi, T.J. Schilling, and Jef Dent, towering over the foundation of the huge sounding bass of Jill Paslier and the powerful drumming of Mike Norris. The larger-than-life sound of the band is forged by a carefully selected all-star line up of producers, their debut being recorded by Mario Quintero (Spotlights), mixed by Matt Bayles (Caspian, Mono, Russian Circles, Isis, Pelican) and mastered Will Yip (Caspian, Circa Survive). "We wanted to hold ourselves to a very high standard, so to sonically achieve our goals, we enlisted the help of Mario, Matt, and Will," explains Kusanagi, indicating that this is a production team Hiroe will likely continue to employ in the future. "Mario was essentially another member of the band in the studio," continues Kusanagi. "They all brought their ideas to the table to help us achieve something greater than just recording a band in a room." Wrought is a work of a quality that is rare among debut albums, an album which epitomizes the original idea of the genre as described by Simon Reynolds in The Wire back in 1994. "Post-rock means using rock instrumentation for non-rock purposes, using guitars as facilitators of timbres and textures rather than rifs and power chords". Wrought is confdent, powerful and incredibly well-produced, combining the elegant, pretty side of post-rock staples like Pg.Lost, Mogwai and God Is An Astronaut with the heaviness of Deftones or Thrice. Somewhere within the soaring rifs and the crushing heaviness of Wrought lies a moment in which the listener will fnd a sonic manifestation of the sublime, a place of reassured hope as well as a thrill of possibility that makes the album an immensely uplifting experience to propel us all through the despondent aftermath of the pandemic era. With these five fery tracks, Hiroe position themselves as an exciting new player in the heavy instrumental rock world.

Shrouded in mystique and driven by the invigorating power of low notes, psychedelic metal outfit DRUIDS return with their fourth studio LP Shadow Work. With an album title referring to to one of the chief ideas of the notable psychoanalist Carl Gustav Jung, the trio from Iowa present a wild, riff-laden journey through the desolate wastelands of the subconscious. Combining the sonic prowess of Mastodon with the psychedelic heaviness of OM, DRUIDS serve their grooves with a distinctly forward-thinking attitude, taking their witchy brand of psychedelic sludge metal to a new level of sophistication."We wanted to make a record that reflected the uncertainty of everything in 2020, and we figured this would be the time to really try something different," explains drummer Keith Rich. By moving their operations from their hometown of Des Moines, IA to Salt Lake City, UT, the band were able to escape the distractions of everyday life and shift their gaze from the endless cornrows of their homeland to the breathtaking peaks of the Rocky Mountains. The result is a record that sees the band increase the dynamics of their compositions while incorporating an even wider spectrum of sounds. "We wanted to make a pivot with this new record, slow things down and experiment with different sounds," continues Rich, pointing to further influences ranging from Radiohead to Neurosis. Indeed the choppy bass lines of album closer `Cloak-Noir Bloom' do hearken back to quintessential experimental rock opus `Airbag', while only moments later the same track breathes the explosive atmosphere of the seminal post-metal act from Oakland, California.Truthfully, these three musicians sound nothing like a three-piece, but rather like an army, the way they march through their songs. The big, fat murky bass sound of Drew Rauch forms a solid counterbalance to the majestic guitar wizardry of his brother Luke, who channels the spirits of classic guitar heroes like Zakk Wylde and Billy Gibbons. Meanwhile drummer Keith Rich channels the v...

“The real mystery does not behave mysteriously or secretively; it speaks a secret language, it adumbrates itself by a variety of images which all indicate its true nature.” — Carl Jung in Psychology and Alchemy, part III, chapter 2.1 Enigmatic psych doom outfit Enphin, formerly known as “Mr. Peter Hayden” or simply “ph” return with their 6th full-length album and Pelagic Records debut, titled “End Cut”. A movie script that became a record, “End Cut” represents a perilous yet enlightening journey for body and mind. If you commit yourself to their guidance, Enphin will take you on a journey through post apocalyptic wastelands into the deep caverns of the soul. Throughout the years many have attempted to probe into the mystery as to whom Peter Hayden might be, but now the two letters have morphed into a new name which refers to the French enfin and which translates to the adverb ‘in the end’. With "End Cut" the four-piece from Finland present a deeply philosophical space doom epic that acts as a final statement on this enduring mystery and which holds the sublime moment in which the true nature of Peter Hayden will be revealed.

Electronic music pioneer Lustmord released an album titled [other] in 2008, to date the only Lustmord album with guitars on it, performed by Adam Jones (tool), King Buzzo (melvins) and Aaron Turner (isis). The albums The Dark Places of the Earth and Beyond, both released in 2009, areextensions of the ideas explored in [other] and are taken from the same recording sessions, but with the guitars removed and the essence of [other] distilled and reduced.[other] was a journey with friends, whileThe Dark Places of the Earth and Beyond take the concept and listener further, deeper, in-between and beyond. While is some ways [other] is as close to a "rock" album as Lustmord will ever make, The Dark Places of the Earth and Beyond are pure Lustmord, a sound that many others imitate but can never equal. Lustmord is the artistic moniker of Brian Williams. Born in North Wales, he started his musical career in 1980 and soon became a pioneer in the early industrial music scene in the UK. He was a former member of SPK during arguably their most crucial era, and went on to work with Throbbing Gristle members Chris & Cosey as well as appearing on early albums by Current 93, Nurse With Wound and others. After relocating to Los Angeles in 1993, Williams worked on dozens of motion picture soundtracks including The Crow, Underworld and Paul Schrader's First Reformed. Additionally he created several video game soundtracks, television scores and solo albums, as well as collaborating with artists as varied as THE Melvins, Clock DVA, Jarboe, John Balance of Coil, Paul Haslinger (tangerine Dream), Puscifer, Wes Borland and more, including Grammy Award-winners Tool on their much acclaimed effort Fear Inoculum. To this day, Lustmord is actively recording and releasing music, his latest release being the collaborative album Alter with Karin Park of A°rabrot, and he is considered to be the founding father of the dark ambient music genre.

Electronic/Industrial music pioneer Lustmords tenth studio album [ O T H E R ], originally released in 2008 and to date the only Lustmord album with guitars on it, performed by Adam Jones (tool), King Buzzo (the Melvins) and Aaron Turner (isis). [ O T H E R ] originally came out on independent record label Hydra Head Records, founded by Isis frontman Aaron Turner and former home of bands such as Converge, Pelican, Jesu, SUN O))) or Boris. As one journalist put it at the time, [ O T H E R ] is a "grim example of a consummate artist who is working frmly within the parameters that he has laid out for himself over the years." This album shows Lustmord at his most characteristic, and the icy, ominous guitar playing of Jones, Turner and Ozborne resonates perfectly within the deep soundscapes that make up this frightening yet inspiring journey. As a matter of fact, the material on [ O T H E R ] is so powerful that it moved Williams to create two ambient remix versions of it, and one dub remix EP exploring the sounds of this record to the greatest extend of his ability. In 2022, and also available now, Lustmord further collaborates with artist such as Godflesh, Mono and Zola JesuS, to name but a few, for THE Others (Lustmord Deconstructed) on re-interpretations on [ O T H E R ] tracks. Greece has spawned countless instances of criminally underrated music acts in diverse genres ranging from black metal to electronic to avant garde pop music, and the sophomore al- bum of modern progressive metal act PLAYGROUNDED titled `The death of Death' is yet another striking example.Starting out in 2007, PLAYGROUNDED have been together for over 15 years, playing both national and international tours, while also opening for bands like Riverside and Anathema and even Nine Inch Nails in Amsterdam. Their first EP Athens (2012, Casket Music) portrays an already mature band playing modern prog rock influenced by Tool and Deftones. Their debut full-length In Time With Gravity (2017) shows the band in full flux, experimenting with extended compositions as well as influences from influential contemporary electronic music acts like Modeselektor and Moderat.PLAYGROUNDED's sophomore album lives up to the aspiration of its lofty album title. The death of Death is music that results from mastery rather than lacklustre exploration and experimentation. The album was recorded at MD Recording Studios by Nikos Michalodimitrakis, long collaborator of Stavros in film productions. Mixing was handled by C.A.Cederberg (Leprous, Anathema, Shining, and more) in Kristiansand, NO, while the album was mastered by George Tandero (Madrugada, Satyricon, Jaga Jazzist, and more) in Oslo, NO.TDOD is a collection of songs that reveal PLAYGROUNDED as composers in the act of decomposition. The memorable guitar riffs and vocal melodies serve as gateways to a deeper layer of glitchy synth textures and liquid drumming, until the perspective of radical decomposition consumes one whole. "The shortest sound units become extended themes," explains main composer Orestis Zafeirou. "Steady rhythmical blocks interact with unstable ones. Noise becomes tone and melody. Sonic grains gather to form masses, masses dissolve into a single entity. With every repetition, comes change."

Stunning debut, from French art rockers Bruit! Initially the band performed their creative research and sonic experiments solely in a studio setting. In the world of Bruit ≤, spontaneous experimentation, thoughtful composition and the aspect of performing in order to create are different but inevitably inseparable techniques of working on the same fabric: the black magic that is creating music. Artistic Identity comes from reconciling these different techniques and approaches of working on and with that fabric, and to understand this better while listening to this album, it helps to make yourself aware that one half of the musicians is classically trained, while the other half is not and barely knows how to read notes. The shifting to and fro between theory and practice, between research and performance and between thought and action are ultimately also reflections of the band’s fiercely activist mind-set. Bruit ≤ have everything a quintessential post-rock act needs, from an excessively long album name to drawn out compositions driven by atmosphere to immaculate climaxes led by soaring, delay-soaked guitars. The band effortlessly flows from atmospheric post-metal to free jazz, and from folktronica to neo-classical avant garde improv. Bruit ≤ can only be fully understood through their attitude rather than their musical influences, from the environmental agenda to the group's staunch boycott of Spotify because of the platform's notoriously sad pay-outs for musicians and their CEO Daniel Ek's recent investments in the arms industry... In that, the group is firmly nested in the tradition of political instrumental rock bands like Godspeed YOU! Black Emperor, and the tumultuous yet wordless sound of the revolution that they stand for is indeed somehow related to Bruit ≤'s own musical landscape.

Pelagic Records commemorates the work of electronic music pioneer Lustmord by releasing The Other, based around his tenth studio album [ O T H E R ] (2008) The Others - Lustmord Deconstructed is a celebration of the fearless attitude of being different and the expression of unique ideas which have never existed before. The new 3LP is an album of Lustmord tracks reinterpreted by some of the spearheads of the contemporary heavy music scene – and beyond: Ulver, Enslaved, Godflesh, Zola Jesus, Bohren & DER Club OF Gore, Steve VON Till, Ihsahn, Jaye Jayle, JO QUAIL,SPOTLIGHTS, KATATONIA's Jonas Renkse , Alexander HACKE's (einstürzende Neubauten) new band Hackedepiciotto, as well as Mono, THE Ocean, Årabrot and Crown. Over 13 years after the release of [ O T H E R ] , 16 bands and solo artists have gathered to record their own unique takes on tracks from the Other-sessions. The result is an album that is more than a compilation, and more than the sum of its parts; covering a wide and diverse range of musical territories, but sharing the same underlying mood and vibe defined by Lustmord's timeless soundscapes: from the ambient solo performances provided by Ihsahn, Enslaved or Jonas Renkse to the subdued voice of Zola Jesus woven into Lustmord's sombre fabric to the industrial carnage that is Godflesh's version of 'Ashen'. What demonstrates the profound influence of Lustmord on this contemporary music underground showcased here is that these very different artists all felt inspired to explore the essence of his idiosyncratic sounds within their own realm: experimental electronica icons Ulver excel on a stunning, hazy rendition of ‘Godeater’, while Japanese post-rock act Mono deliver a crushing version of ‘Er Eb Os’, and THE Ocean take us on a cathartically heavy mindtrip back to our 'Primal [State of Being]'. In the end, each of these 16 artists delivers an interpretation that pays the deepest respect to this pivotal artist, while also standing out as a new track of its own. The Others - Lustmord Deconstructed is not only a tribute and an excellent entry point into the discography of the founding father of dark ambient. It is also a celebration of the most accomplished visionaries in the underground music scene of today, and a manifestation of what binds them together.

Special 3-song EP from Mono on stunning limited-edition 10” vinyl! After Covid-19 first swept the world in 2020, Mono felt compelled to make a special little gift for the Christmas holiday. The accompanying message was simple: “Wishing everyone good health, happiness, and good cheer in the new year.” Originally made at home in isolation, this digital-only release consisted of two new Mono songs: “Scarlet Holliday” and “First Winter.” Now, to commemorate the 2021 holiday season, Mono has reworked and expanded Scarlet Holliday into a very special 3-song EP (now including the brand new song, “Epilogue”). Recorded at home and at Electrical Audio by longtime collaborator, Steve Albini, newly mixed by John McEntire and mastered by Bob Weston, Scarlet Holliday is finally being released into the world on limited-edition 10” vinyl! In their unflappable determination to shine light into the darkness, Mono explains: “These songs were written with the idea of new hope for the new year since this time has become unforeseeably dark for many in the world."

Following their spring 2021 Awake EP and shimmering cover of Billie Eilish's "Everything I Wanted," the new single "Animals" finds SOM refining a sound that has been called "doom pop" by Metal Injection, with ethereal heartfelt vocals atop huge riffs alternating between gritty & atmospheric. The accompanying video was directed by Toshadeva Palani (Alcest, Junius, Angel Olsen). "Animals" is the first single from the quintet's second full-length, The Shape of Everything, to be released January 21, 2022 - right on time for the heavy shoegazers' European tour opening for Katatonia and So'lstafir. The Shape Of Everything is full of compelling power. Its concise compositions balance gritty riffs with airy vocal lines that will appeal to fans of Deftones and Tame Impala alike, and are just as primed for rock radio as for shoegaze-loving connoisseurs. The intentional, self-imposed paradigm of minimalism, the aim to reduce each musical idea to its emotive essence is what makes the band sound huge _ and of course the flawless, modern yet incredibly warm and rich production by Will Benoit himself. The album was recorded, mixed and mastered at his own Radar Studio in Connecticut - New England's first solar-powered recording facility. The tracks are part of SOM's ongoing mission to "leave this place better than we found it." Frontman Will Benoit co-founded the outfit with drummer and former Constants colleague Duncan Rich, as well as Adai founder and now-Caspian drummer Justin Forrest. While touring on The Fall, the band recruited old friends guitarists Mike Repasch-Nieves and Joel M. Reynolds, both formerly of Junius and Driftoff. While many artists lumbered in inactivity, SOM used the darkness of recent times to create and heal. The Shape of Everything's introspective bliss is an insight into the kind of harmony the quintet seek to cultivate in all facets of life.

A scorching debut from New Zealand's latest sensation, Pull Down THE SUN deliver a blast of celestial power combining elements of prog metal and heavy riff-driven post-rock. Existing within a triangle between Gojira, Isis, and Deftones, Pull Down THE SUN (nz) have mastered the diverse language of modern metal to enrapture the listener with mythical tales from their Maori homeland. `Of Valleys and Mountains' reaches into the heart of the land and reveals its deep mysteries, at times in the pristine beauty of tremolo picked guitars, at times in the sedation of ethereal soundscapes, but most of all in in the massive riffs and huge choruses that pierce right through the mountain forest haze. With over 14 years of experience under their belt Pull Down THE SUN prove to have learned from the best - and they've learned their lessons well. Of Valleys and Mountains is more than just a collection of good songs. It is a sonic ritual that draws you in as it goes along, while vibrant rays of light to pierce through the haze and the mist dissipates to reveal the hidden song at the heart of their enrapturing homeland.

Karin is different. A different kind of sexy, a different kind of magic, a different kind of joy. She is a nightmare, that cannot be defined nor harnessed, a free will as much as a force of nature. A distant star, burning brighter. There is only one Karin Park, and this is only the beginning." - B. Lustmord. Karin PARK`s 5th full length studio album Church of Imagination is an exploratory musical journey through the territories of magic, religion and the power of imagination. Recorded and produced by herself with co- producers Nick Sheldon (Blackhill) and her husband Kjetil Nernes (A°rabrot), Church of Imagination is a seamless continuation of her idiosycratic Apocalypse Pop sound that she defined with her previous album title. "I got heavily into synths, hugely inspired by Fad Gadget and a lot of the other Daniel Miller signings for Mute in the early 80s. But there wasn't a female community of musicians in that scene that I could really look to as an example, so it took a while to find my feet", says Karin. ,I love pop music but I always need to dig deeper, evolve and find new territory. I easily move from Throbbing Gristle to Beyonce and back again." After a year of sold-out performances at the 1.400 capacity Folketeatere in Oslo as the lead in Les Mise'rables, touring the world with A°rabrot, and becoming a parent; Karin Park released Church Of Imagination, her first new album in five year, in early 2020. We are now reissuing it on vinyl as an introduction to Karin's dark and beautiful cosmos for the Pelagic crowd, and we promise that the wait for a brand new Karin Park album to follow won't be long: as of September 2021, the prolific Karin has already finished the recordings of the sequel to Church Of Imagination, to be released some time in 2022. Like Karin, Church Of Imagination is a playful affair. We sense the influence of Scott Walker, Massive Attack and Nico, it is Karin's using different elements to tell her stories. What defines Karin the most is her ability to touch people with who she is and what she stands for. And her imagination.

Transparent Red Single Color Vinyl Edition! Year OF NO Light`s lengthy, sprawling compositions of towering walls of guitars and sombre synths irradiate a sense of dire solemnity and spiritual gravity, and couldn't be a more fitting soundtrack for such grim medieval scenarios. But there is also the element of absolution, regeneration, elevation, transcendence in the face of death. Consolamentum is dense, rich and lush and yet somehow feels starved and deprived. With debut album Nord (2006) and sophomore release Ausserwelt (2010), the band made themselves a name in the European avant-metal scene. Extensive tours of Europe, North America and Russia in 2013 and 2014, including two appearances at Roadburn festival, Hellfest and a spectacular performance in a 17th Century fortress in the Carpathian mountains introduced them to a broader and quickly growing international audience. The cinematic scope of their music implies that Year OF NO Light are a group of artists that pay a great deal of attention to their visual representation, from the classy album artworks and merch designs to the carefully designed lighting design of their live show. With their seminal 3rd album Tocsin, released in 2013, Year OF NO Light reached the peak of their career thus far - a logical decision that Consolamentum was made with the same team again: recorded and mixed by Cyrille Gachet at Cryogene in Begles / Bordeaux, mastered by Alan Douches at West West Side. "We wanted this album to sound as organic and analog as possible", comments the band. "All tracks were recorded live. The goal was to have the most natural, warm and clean takes possible, to give volume to the dynamics of the songs. We aimed to have a production with a singular personality." Consolamentum is huge, poignant, frightening, sublime, smothering and cathartic - and, much like its predecessor, "audacious, memorable and supremely confident." (Decibel magazine).

The Berliners present an unusual live album that is a testimony of strange times: their Phanerozoic concept album performed live in its entirety at a time when no shows were happening anywhere in the world.
On September 25, 2020, in the middle of the global pandemic, The Ocean released their 9th studio album Phanerozoic II, the concluding episode of a conceptual trilogy that began with Precambrian 13 years before, with no end of lockdowns in sight, the band decided to thank their fans for the support with 2 streaming concerts, performing both Phanerozoic albums in their entirety.
The performance formed part of the digital edition of Roadburn Festival, aptly named Roadburn Redux. Both shows couldn't have been more different: where the first part boasts with a pompous, mesmerizing lighting production on a big stage, the 2nd part is quite the opposite: intimate, almost cosy, focused on musicianship rather than performance. A stripped down setup in a dark barn, with moody, minimal but not any less efficient lighting.
“We wanted to give people 2 totally different experiences”, says band leader Robin Staps. “In Bremen, we had the chance to record a proper Ocean live show, the way people know us. We played facing towards the front of the stage, to an invisible crowd, essentially to a huge empty room... but we knew people were watching, even if we didn't see them. There was the same rush of adrenaline right before going on stage as you get before going on at any big open air festival... maybe with a little extra anxiety added, because knowing that so many people are watching you without being able to see them yourself was super weird.”
Phanerozoic Live is a live album like no other – it is a live album that was recorded in a cultural vacuum, a bizarre time that we will remember for the rest of our lives: a time when the world as we knew it suddenly stopped spinning. It is a live album that goes without all the qualities that we usually appreciate about a live album: without the sounds of a cheering, exited crowd... but it is the very absence of this, it is the eery silence between the songs that reminds us of what we miss most, and that gives these recordings a rare intensity and power.

Ever Since The Release Of Their Acclaimed Debut Ep P'eau (2018) These Mechelen-Based Musicians Have Been Honing Their Craft In Songwriting And Production, Building A New Home Studio To Record Future Material While Also Expanding From A Three-Piece To A Five-Piece Ensemble. By Adding Singer/Percussionist Stefan De Graef (Psychonaut) And Guitarist/Singer Sander Rom (L'itch) To Their Ranks, Hippotraktor Have Become A More Versatile Outfit Able To Employ A Broader Palette Of Sounds, Taking The Band's Earlier Instrumental Prog Metal Sound To New Heights.Taking Notes From The Best Moments In Contemporary Progressive And Post Metal, Hippotraktor Capture The Awe-Inspiring Power Of Nature_from The Delicacy Of The First Falling Leaf To The Massive Cosmic Energy Of The Sun. By Combining The Big, Catchy Riffs And The Rhythmical Prowess Of Gojira With The Relentless But Equally Groove-Loaded Complexity Of Meshuggah, Meridian Delivers An Overwhelming Experience Of Sound, Presenting The Listener With Sentiments That Are Recognisable, But With An Intensity That Seems Larger-Than-Life. "Meridian Tells The Story Of A Solitary Wanderer On The Earth In The Absence Of Other Beings," Explains Stefan. "Without Anyone To Share Knowledge And History With, The Protagonist Is Forced To Create His Own Truths And Stories About The Nature Of Life, Consciousness And The Universe. The Protagonist Begins To Personify And Deify His Surroundings, Assigning Sentience To The Trees, The Mountains, The Wind, The Waters Etc. For They Are His Only Companions In This Desolate World."Essentially, Meridian Is An Exploration Of The Evolutionary Theory Of Naturism, Which Was Put Forth By German Scholar Max Mu"Ller In The 19th Century, And Which Argues That Religion Finds Its Origin In The Deification Of The Forces Of Nature By Early Human Beings. By Juxtaposing This Sociological Theory With Seven Tracks That Unfailingly Conjure Images Of The Earth, Sea And Sky, Hippotraktor Have Created An Analogy That Enlarges The Imaginative Quality...

New and 11th Studio album from Mono!!! Pilgrimage of the Soul is the 11th studio album in the 22-year career of Japanese experimental rock legends, Mono. Recorded and mixed – cautiously, anxiously, yet optimistically – during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic in the summer of 2020, Pilgrimage of the Soul is aptly named as it not only represents the peaks and valleys where Mono are now as they enter their third decade, but also charts their long, steady journey to this time and place. Continuing the subtle but profound creative progression in the Mono canon that began with Nowhere Now Here (2019), Pilgrimage of the Soul is the most dynamic Mono album to date (and that’s saying a lot). But where Mono’s foundation was built on the well-established interplay of whisper quiet and devastatingly loud, Pilgrimage of the Soul crafts its magic with mesmerizing new electronic instrumentation and textures, and – perhaps most notably – faster tempos that are clearly influenced by disco and techno. It all galvanizes as the most unexpected Mono album to date – replete with surprises and as awash in splendour as anything this band has ever done. Mono began in Japan at the end of the 20th Century as a young band equally inspired by the pioneers of moody experimental rock (My Bloody Valentine, Mogwai) and iconic Classical composers (Beethoven, Morricone) who came before them. They have evolved into one of the most inspiring and influential experimental rock bands in their own right. It is only fitting that their evolution has come at the glacial, methodical pace that their patient music demands. Mono is a band who puts serious value in nuance, and offers significant rewards for the wait.

Eleventh full-length from WANG WEN - 100,000 Whys!
Over their 22 year-long career, WANG WEN have reached a profoundness of intention in their music that reflects in the massive soundscapes that they bring on record and from the stage. It comes as no surprise that in these dire times, the band delivers a record that speaks to humanity on a universal scale. “100,000 Whys” arguably presents the band at their most accessible since the release of 2012’s 0.7, but also at the height of their ability to create moments of high tension and exhilarating release.
Between the recording and the release of 100,000 Whys, Wang Wen shared a documentary titled “Seven Thousand Hows” with the world, chronicling a three day trip to Nepal, where the band participated in a benefit concert for the victims of the 2015 Gorkha earthquake. ‘When people are talking about music, and people are talking about peace and love. We play music as a reminder that you are a human being, not a beast. You are different from the beast,’ declares band leader Xie Yugang from the stage of Purple Haze Rock Bar in Kathmandu.
Isolation and togetherness, collective and individual. These have been themes that pervaded the work of Wang Wen over the course of their career. The album title, inspired by a line from Rudyard Kipling’s poem “I Keep Six Honest Serving Men” reflects the collective confusion felt at the outbreak of the global COVID-19 pandemic and the ensuing restrictions that governments instated to deal with this crisis.
Around the time of the outbreak, Wang Wen, having just finished composing material for their eleventh full-length, found themselves locked in their hometown of Dalian, a large port-city in the north of China. Instead of recording their album in St. Petersburg, Russia, as planned, they decided to put 100,000 Whys to tape in their own rehearsal space in the Dalian Urban Music Center. Again Wang Wen requested the services of producer Wouter Vlaminck.
Drenched in heavily filtered synthesizers and fuzzed out bass sounds, 100,000 Whys carries a vintage feel that hearkens back to the late 60s and early 70s. Meanwhile the scratches and glitches around the edges of the music reveal a distinctly contemporary attitude.

"Maa Antaa Yon Vaientaa" Is As Captivating As It Is Alienating. The Third Album By Finnish Post-Rock Extravaganza Horte Is A Dark And Mesmerizing Journey That Is Best Consumed In One Sitting - Or Else You'll Miss All The Dramatic Arcs. Horte Demand Your Undivided Attention."If You Stare Long Enough Into The Abyss, The Abyss Will Also Stare Back Into You", Nietzsche Found. It Is This Existential Experience That Is The Brooding Essence Of Maa Antaa Yon Vaientaa. Every Musical Idea Is Based Essentially On Emotional Dispositions, Which Unravel As The Idea Is Sketched, Developed, Then Thrust Into The Abyss_ Only To Echo Back And Find Bleak Resonance Within The Very Heart That Initially Gave Birth To It. Listening To These Echoes Is Deeply Cathartic, And An Integral Part Of The Horte Experience.Horte`S Music Feels Intangible And Immaterial, Yet Candid And Real At The Same Time. There Are Moments When It Feels Like The Band Draws You Closer, But They Never Quite Let You Pierce The Veil Between You And Them. "Our Principal Goal Is To Keep The Focus On The Music Without Highlighting Us As Individuals", Says Singer Riikka. It Is Her Otherworldly But Ultimately Pacifying Voice Which Inevitably Places Horte's Dreamy, Psychedelically Distorted Soundscapes In The Far North. Besides The Vocals, The Bass Is The Most Prominent And Most Tangible Element In These Soundscapes, Standing Tall Between Eerie Synth Clouds, Broken Beats And A Voice That Oscillates Between Subdued Aspiration And Bitter Laments.Field Recordings And Sound Collages Stand At The Beginning Of The Group's Songwriting Process, Collected Material From Differing Stratums That Gets Processed Into A Skeletal Pre-Composition, Before The Whole Band Arranges The Pieces Together. Re-issue of Year OF NO LIGHT's album 'Ausserwelt'!! Year OF NO LIGHT's lengthy, sprawling compositions of towering walls of guitars and sombre synths irradiate a sense of dire solemniand spiritual gravity, and couldn't be a more fitting soundtrack for such grim medieval scenarios. But there is also the element of element of absolution transcendence in the face of death. Year Of No Light sound dense, rich and lush and yet somehow starved and deprived. “There's a thread running through all of our albums”, the band comments, “an exploration of the sensitive world that obeys a certain telos, first fantasized ("Nord") and reverberated ("Ausserwelt"), then declaimed as a warning ("Tocsin"). The deeper we dig, the more the motifs we have to unveil appear to us. Yes, it's a bit gnostic. This album is invoked after the Tocsin, it's the epiphany of the Fall”.

Mono live in London with The Platinum Anniversary Orchestra! Single Color Vinyl, gatefold fold with special metallic inks and thick 40-pages booklet including pictures from the event! For two decades, Mono have defined and re- fined a kind of orchestral rock that is as emo- tional as it is experimental. Their 10 studio al- bums over those 20 years have established Mono as what Pitchfork described as "one of the most distinctive bands of the 21st Centu- ry." Meanwhile, their live concerts are typically more subdued in instrumentation - and more supercharged in volume and voltage. Rarely is there the opportunity to combine those two experiences. In their 20-year history as a band, Mono have presented no more than a half-dozen live concerts featuring the support of an orchestra. Such events are not only un- usual - they are also unforgettable. Beyond the Past · Live in London with the Platinum Anniversary Orchestra documents Mono's extraordinary performance from the Beyond the Past event that celebrated the band's 20th anniversary, which took place at the historic Barbican Centre in London, England on December 14, 2019. For that once-in-a-life- time event, Mono selected a memorable lineup of old and new friends, including fellow Japa- nese underground icons, Boris and Envy, as well as French post-metal legends, Alcest, and UK collaborators A.A. Williams and Jo Quail. The event culminated with Mono performing with The Platinum Anniversary Orchestra, featuring National Youth String Orchestra to a rapt, sold-out audience of 2,000. Playing through a two-hour set that touches on the band's entire history, the sheer euphoria and dynamic resonance that engulfed the massive crowd was captured in brilliant detail by Mono's live sound engineer, Matt Cook. Meticulously mastered by Bob Weston and presented here in its entire two-hour glory, Beyond the Past is one of the most essential Mono recordings. Pack- aged in a gatefold with accompanying 40-page photo book, this is the rare document of an event that is an event in and of itself.

Classic Black Vinyl!

Psychonaut and SÂVER are akin in many ways: both artists embody and explore corporal, physical heaviness in their sound as much as spirituality and philosophy, both artists often stretch their compositions close to the 20 minutes mark, and both artists redefine the concept of the classic power trio within a context of genre-bending, modern heavy music: where SÂVER plea for calculated minimalism, PSYCHONAUT employ an arsenal of percussion instruments on their recordings, and it is even more so astonishing how well they manage to reduce the polyphonic assault to the trio in a live setting.
Psychonaut and SÂVER, are two bands sharing a side apiece on this Emerald split LP. The Belgian troupe lead off with the 16-minute “The Great Realisation,” bringing progressive textures and patient melodic build en-route to a satisfying onslaught, volume trades not necessarily unpredictable but welcome nonetheless, as Norway’s SÂVER follow with the 19-minute “Dimensions Lost, Obscured by Aeons"
PSYCHONAUT literally came from out of nowhere - Mechelen, Belgium, to be precise.
Their 2020 album Unfold The God Man showcases excellent musicianship and song writing abilities, heavily influenced by 70’s bands like Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd, but also drawing inspiration from contemporary heavy artists like Tool or
Amenra.
SÂVER from Oslo, Norway delivered an equally astounding debut album of sublime heaviness, shimmering moogs, abrasive vocals and a devastating, gnarly bass tone. Their jaw-dropping performance at the renowned Oya Festival in Oslo in the summer before the pandemic, accompanied by mesmerizing visuals on a huge screen, was a foreboding of what to expect from this band in the future.
The pandemic caused harm, but it also granted time.
Ole Rokseth took this time and translated it to magic, giving birth to the first half 'Dimensions Lost' with his arsenal of synthesizers recorded in different studios around Oslo. The contrast to the latter half 'Obscured by Aeons', the dissonance between the soft and eerie and the furious anger, is a reflection of the key element we want to incorporate in our sound. The void between darkness and light. Ole Rokseth´s extended use of clean vocals gives SÂVER the power to emphasize this even more on 'Emerald'.

Årabrots`S 9th Full-Length Album Norwegian Gothic Sees The Band Collaborate With Lars Horntveth (Jaga Jazzist), Cellist Jo Quail, Tomas Järmyr (Motorpsycho), Anders Moller (Turbonegro, Ulver) And Massimo Pupillo (Zu). A Stellar Production By Jaime Gomez Arellano (Black Eyed Peas, Paradise Lost, Hexvessel, Oranssi Pazusu) Makes This The Quintessential Årabrot Record, As Guitarist And Vocalist Kjetil Nernes Confirms:"Norwegian Gothic Is The Culmination Of Everything Årabrot Has Done Musically The Past 10 Years. It Is Not Only The Climax Of The Band So Far, But Also A Good Indication Of What To Come. It Is Basically An Amalgamation Of All Of Our Influences Here In The Church Where We Live. Musically It Is Inspired By All The Albums Of Our Record Collection And Thematically By The Books We Have In Our Shelves. More Specifically It Is Our Special Brand Of Rock'n'roll Music Mixed With Fin-De-Siecle Decadence, Surrealism And Even A Pinch Of Old German Philosophy To Boot."While The 20 Years History Of The Band Is A Story Of Change And Correlation, It Would Be Too Simple To Break This Creative Duality Down To The Stereotypical Dichotomy Of The Yin And The Yang_ And If One Attempted To Do So, It Would Turn Out To Be Quite Difficult To Determine Which Of These Forces Would Be Represented By Which Individual.A Chubby Child From A Christian Family, Growing Up In A Small Swedish Village And Years Spent In A Missionary School In Japan Made Karin Desperate To Break Away From Narrow Thinking. And She Used Her Only Advantages To Do So; Her Unique Voice And Personality. By The Age 15 She Had Moved Away From Home To Find Her Place In Music. After Studying At Stockholm Music Conservatory, A Norwegian Poet Took Her To Norway Where She Started Her Pop Career, This Was Followed By A Move To London To Write Songs, And Working As A Model. After Five Albums, A Few Grammys, Writing A Eurovision Entry For Norway And Hits For Other Artists And Performances With Lana Del Rey And David Bowie, Karin Returned To The Vil...

"The Revolution Will Come Soon. All This Will Be Destroyed. The World Must Be Destroyed. Amen. For Years I Have Been Waiting For Antonin Artaud's Mad Words To Catch Up With The Actual World And Thank God For The Virus - Here It Finally Is. This Is The World Must Be Destroyed."Originally Recorded During The `Who Do You Love' Sessions Back In 2017 - The Title Track Even Intended As Main Single But For Various Reason Ended Up As An Outtake (!) - These Songs Are Among My Personal Favourites From This Period. They Are All Inspired By Antonin Artaud's Insane Masterwork - His `Biography' Of Child Emperor Heliogabalus. Hallucinatory, Sadistic, Overly Sexual And Above All Just Completely Nutters.Produced By The Tall Man Himself And The Dark Diva Karin Park. Musicians Include Dana Schechter (Insect Ark/Swans), Andrew Liles (Current 93/Nurse With Wound) And Tubaist Kristoffer Lo (Highasakite / Motorpsycho). In early 2021, Eroded comes as a strong, hopeful voice expressing the suppressed yearning for an end of this madness which we all carry inside.

Back in 2012 LIZZARD recorded with Rhys Fulber in L.A. (Paradise Lost, Fear Factory, Front Line Assembly...) who confesses his love for their "marvelous poly-rhythmical sound". It is true that LIZZARD's songwriting is distinguished by at times intricate rhythmical patterns, but these are always woven into the fabric of immensely catchy song constructs. The technical prowess here is well concealed behind the glaring allure of the immediacy of raw, in your face rock music.

Formed in 2006, when Katy Elwell (drums), William Knox (bass) and Mathieu Ricou (guitar & vocals) met and discovered that they shared a common vision in music, LIZZARD soon set out to work on their sound with a mission to find their own idiosyncratic approach to contemporary rock music – music that makes confident reference to the past without romanticising it. In many ways, Eroded is a trip back to the best parts of the 90's, but in the sound of 2020.

Sophomore album Majestic was released in 2014 and met with great critical acclaim: a more spontaneous and raw affair compared to its predecessor, recorded live and produced by the band themselves, the album captures the intense energy the band unleashes on stage. “We’re very much a live band creatively speaking”, says bass player Will Knox. “All of the writing sessions happen in our rehearsal space rather than at home. We believe that to capture any vibe, the chemistry between members needs to occur in real time... at least for us.”

Shift (produced, mixed and engineered by Peter Junge), released in 2018, opened new doors for the French trio: “Lizzard accomplish the perfect balancing act between music that is challenging and catchy in equal measure”, Metal Hammer raved. The band opened for Gojira and Terry Bozzio who invited them to perform on Drum Channel, and embarked on month-long European tours with the likes of HIGH ON FIRE, THE PINEAPPLE THIEF and the ADRIAN BELEW POWER TRIO.

Recorded during a long month of voluntary isolation at the legendary Castle Studios in Germany, Eroded brings a light at the end of the tunnel: “The vibe on the album is generally one of hope and an invitation to stay alert to the light within ourselves, and to keep moving towards brighter destinations.”

Bring on the future and for once, let it be the past, as we knew it before the pandemic.
