Having witnessed so much change over their 32 year career, Japanese post-hardcore legends envy have remained a steadfast and dominantforce within the country’s boundary-pushing heavy scene and beyond. With envy’s original roots in thrash-metal and screamo still word proudly on their sleeves, the band have steadily evolved their sound to incorporate euphoric elements of post-rock and shoegaze to spectacular efect. ‘Eunoia’, their 8th full-length release, is truly a landmark album; the perfect balance of aggression and elation that sees the band’s revitalised lineup exploring a latent sense of powerlessness in the face of a fractured and increasingly divisive world. On Vinyl for the first time. Post-metal auteurs Burst (Sweden) announce return, 2022 remastered vinyl release of their classic 3 albums “Prey On Life” (2003), “Origo” (2005) and “Lazarus Bird” (2008). When Swedish progressive metal quintet Burst disbanded indefinitely after a string of acclaimed albums and an intense live catharsis in Gothenburg, Sweden in December 2009, it marked the end of a 15 year evolution. What started out as young, crusty hardcore band in the 90’s, developed into a unique blend of metal, progressive rock and hardcore, alternating grand atmospheres with abrasive metal and melancholy melodicism. During the following years, the die-hards kept the torch lit while new fans discovered the band’s catalogue, but apart from a one-off appearance at Spain’s Be Prog festival in 2018, the band has remained quietly slumbering. Until 2022. This fall, Pelagic Records will release individual standalone LP releases of the aforementioned albums - the first two for the first time ever on vinyl format. Originally released on CD through Relapse Records, the albums have been remastered and graphically refurbished in 2022, with all new artwork by R obert Samsonovitz. An all-encompassing aural assault, a force as unstoppable and fiercely alive as the tide. The post-rock powerhouse known as And So I Watch You From Afar have returned with their 7th studio album, ‘Megafauna’. A tribute to the two places the collective call home, their beloved Portrush on the Irish North Coast and the beating heart that is Belfast; ‘ Megafauna’ is headstrong exploration and heartfelt appreciation with all the intuition, intimacy and humour of four firm friends approaching their 20th year as a band and a nod to the Irish roots that simultaneously ground & propel them forward. Like so many other bands and creatives throughout the pandemic, ASIWYFA found themselves suddenly stationary, with any plans outside of their immediate vicinity put on indefinite hold. However, where this might have seen other acts falter, ASIWYFA took comfort in their communal bond and, as soon as they were able, began writing a record that quickly became a love letter to the communities they call home. “‘Megafauna’ is essentially a distilled moniker for our peers,” says guitarist Rory Friers, “all of the friends and characters that we’ve grown up with who’ve made us and our homes what they are today. With Holocene, The Ocean add the new and final chapter in their paleontologically inspired album series. This time, the hardness of the collective is extended by some electronic dimensions. Founded at the beginning of the millennium, the group of musicians around guitarist Robin Stapps has not lost its intensity even after more than 20 years. The Ocean come together each time with a shared vision of boundless sonic exploration, never standing still, the band enjoys a stellar reputation in the genres of post-rock, progressive metal and even hardcore. Robin Staps commented on the final work in the Paleontological album series: "Holocene is an appendix to the 2 Phanerozoic albums and Precambrian, or the final and concluding chapter, making it a quadrilogy if you will. German post-metal formation THE Ocean will release their new album "Holocene" in May 2023, as usual there is an instrunemtal album available as well. With Holocene, The Ocean add the new and final chapter in their paleontologically inspired album series. This time, the hardness of the collective is extended by some electronic dimensions. Founded at the beginning of the millennium, the group of musicians around guitarist Robin Stapps has not lost its intensity even after more than 20 years. The Ocean come together each time with a shared vision of boundless sonic exploration, never standing still, the band enjoys a stellar reputation in the genres of post-rock, progressive metal and even hardcore. Robin Staps commented on the final work in the Paleontological album series: "Holocene is an appendix to the 2 Phanerozoic albums and Precambrian, or the final and concluding chapter, making it a quadrilogy if you will. It deals with the Holocene, the most recent and shortest chapter in Earth's history, but essentially it's an album about fear, alienation, the loss of reason and critical thinking, the rise of conspiracy theories and the deconstruction of values in modernity." On the creation process and electronic basis of the new tracks, he adds: "The writing process of every album we've ever done started with me coming up with a guitar riff, a drum beat or a vocal idea. This album is different because every single song is based on a musical idea originally written by Peter (Voigtmann, synthesizer). He came up with these amazing synth parts that sounded great even in pre-production, and he sent me some of these raw, unfinished ideas in the middle of "Lockdown 2020"... and even though it was all electronic, it had this definite Ocean vibe to it. I immediately wanted to pick up my guitar.... And I did, and it wasn't long before we had an inspiring creative exchange that went in completely unforeseen but very exciting directions." Heaven Vol. 1 marks the beginning of a new annual tradition from Mono: A new EP released on Christmas Day each year, leaning into the light at precisely the time when we need it the most - surrounded by loved ones and hopeful for what the turn of the calendar may bring us. Recorded by Takaakira `Taka' Goto at his home studio in Japan (with drums recorded by Amak Golden at Golden Hive Studio in Prague) - and mixed by Rafael Anton Irisarri and Jeremy deVine at Black Knoll Studio in New York - Heaven Vol. 1 finds Mono at their most hopeful and cinematic. Of each of Heaven Vol. 1's three tracks, Mono offers these words: Lucia: "This song was written when our beloved longtime partner Jeremy (the owner of our American label Temporary Residence Ltd.) welcomed his second child. The song is constructed with two parts; the first part celebrates the birth of a new life and the second part heads towards dreams and hope. We wrote this song with the feeling of Santa Claus riding a sleigh through the snowstorm, smiling, jumping into the swirl of pure white light and carrying many dreams." Smile: "We drew upon the snowy scenery of Christmas that we experienced when we were young. Your exhaled breath is white. Your heart is dancing in the endless silvery white world, and when you are about to grab the snow with your hands and turn around, your parents look back at you with a smile. We wrote this song whilst remembering moments like this." Silent Embrace: "Time passed and we became adults. Life is like climbing and descending many steep mountains, but the reason we're still able to continue walking is because of our loved ones, colleagues, friends and family who quietly stand by us and giving us courage and strength. We wanted to express our gratitude with this song."

China's leading post rock band Wang Wen are releasing their 12th album on March 10th, the follow-up to much acclaimed 2021's "100.000 Whys" "Wang Wen's new album Painful Clown & Ninja Tiger is named after the traditional Chinese method of chronology year name < Xin-Chou & Ren-Yin >(dedf & DEDD).The two years just passed by. The sexagenarian cycle of the Chinese calendar is like the FE- against-FD polyrhythm in music. Two separate paths that travel six times through the Heavenly Stems and five times through the Earthly Branches and then reunite. However, this is just a superficial interpretation. The reality is the dark side has been approaching and countless miserable accidents occurred in front of us. All the savage and dictatorship come back, repeating itself over and over again in a dead loop in the history, which becomes less distant and fuzzy nowadays. They are not just "years","people" or "places" that we read in books. They jump out suddenly in front of us, turning into vivid and bare details that we are confronted with every day. To put it simply: this album was composed and recorded in those two years, and it records the life experience of the band in those two years, hence the name. Frokedal is a popular folk singer-songwriter whose haunting vocals have scored the music of various acclaimed bands over the past decade. The members of Sa^ver are veterans of the Norwegian heavy scene. Having toured all over the world playing renowned festivals like Roadburn and Psycho Las Vegas, they now fill and orchestrate the gap between eerie softness and furious anger as a three-piece atmospheric sludge metal ensemble. This split 10" sees each of these artists present a song from the respective other artist's back catalogue, finding a transcendental middle ground between the other artist's musical realm and their own sphere. Commenting on the beginning of her own musical career, Frokedal notes: "Because everyone has a computer these days there's no limit to how many times you can multi-track. I [was] sick of that. I hoped to go the other way - to remove as much as I could and be left with a beating heart." Remarkably, Sa^ver have done just that in their execution of Frokedal's track «Shot-Put», turning down their guitars to give space to clean vocals and laying bare the synths that are an integral part of their sound. Driven by deep drones and soft layered vocals, the Homeric simile of a meeting at the shot put becomes even more compelling, turning the folksy original into a haunting ambient rock opus. In turn, Frokedal lays bare the heart of «I Vanish» from Sa^ver's debut LP in a gently swaying but bewitching folk version. In a world somewhere between the triple harmony magic of The Staves and the polyphonic madness of Le Myste`re des Voix Bulgares, Anne Lise conjures the unsettling path towards obliteration. Many things can be said about the way these songs sound and even about how they transcend the originals in some ways, but the true beauty of this EP lies in the way both Frokedal and Sa^ver incline towards each other to find a middle ground that is yet unexplored in their respective careers. Coming together, they prove that beauty is found in the eye of the beholder, but transcendence is found in the eye of the storm!
