Psychonaut 4, probably the most prominent DSBM (Depressive Suicidal Black Metal) band within today’s scene is back after 4 years with their 5th full length album “…Of Mourning”. On “…Of Mourning” the band has reached deep into their musical skills and wrote a record that towers far above their previous work, implying more rock, post, shoegaze and even progressive passages to complete their Depressive Black Metal sound. The album delivers some of the most beautiful and calm moments within the DSBM genre entangled with some mesmerizing clean vocals. The guitars go from clean, to sharping high melodic notes to yet some harsh chords that will make you bang you head throughout the entire record. The bass guitar gives that nice undertone with here and there some room for a few presentative notes on its own where the drums comply themselves towards the entire song structure. The vocals by Graf are as always painful, full with loneliness and sadness that leaves no listener unhurt. Psychonaut 4 has written an absolute masterpiece of an album that will shock the whole DSBM scene and leave none unturned. A record filled with sadness, desperation, solitude and yet full of hope, brought to you in 6 songs with a fantastic production from start till finish. “…Of Mourning” will definitely be one of the number 1 records of 2024 and a must have for every fan of melancholic music. DSBM at its best! Recommended if you like: Alcest, Apati, Austere, Harakiri for the Sky, Lifelover, Nocturnal Depression, Shining, Silencer, Sterbend, Thy Light, TotalSelfHatred, 1. Ghele (01:40)2. Mzeo Amodi (08:14)3. Fiqrebi Mtsukhrisa (07:54)4. Vai Me (07:53)5. Sizmrebshi (08:24)6. Dzilis Tsameba (07:21)

Atra Vetosus, The Atmospheric / Melodic Black Metal band from Australia is back with their 3rd full length album after 3 years of silence. Their newest opus entitled: “Undying Splendour” is the follow up of their 2021 EP “Even the Dawn No Longer Brings Hope”. Compared to the early works of the band, you can hear a solid change in style. Where the band used to lean towards the Melodic Black Metal genre, it is fair to say that since the release of Apricity in 2018 that the band has been evolving and slowly changed their musical direction towards the Atmospheric side of the Black Metal genre. On their new album “Undying Splendour” you can hear that the band has not yet stopped with exploring their musical direction and have implemented more different genres to their music than ever before. The main ingredient is without a doubt Atmospheric Black Metal, however you’ll find some refreshing Post Metal parts or even some Sludge Metal influences combined with an underlaying tone of their old signature of Melodic guitar playing. The music in general has a lot of fast-paced moments with shredding guitars and full blast beats on the drums. The basslines are nicely added and deliver the right punch but also nice melodies in the breaks where needed. The vocals are more harsh than on the previous records, but are nicely diversed with some clean singing here and there. The added synths and orchestral instruments create the needed distraction from all the fury and bring you together with the clean guitars into utter calmness. Atra Vetosus managed to write a record that does not only sound, but feels like a complete journey from start till finish. There’s enough variety going on that keeps the record interesting without falling into slumber. All in All, a record that fans from the Atmospheric to Post and even Sludge Black Metal can appreciate till its fullest. Recommended if you like: Agalloch, Dissection, Der Weg Einer Freiheit, Harakiri for the Sky, Karg, Sacramentum, Vinterland. 1. This Fallow Heart (09:24)2. Transcendental Flight (07:20)3. Elysian Echoes (06:50)4. Forsaking Dreaded Paths (10:01)5. Where Limbs Become Trees (01:55)6. Tormentation of the Guileless (10:56)

Ende, a Black Metal outfit hailing from France are ready to unleash their 6th full length album: “L'aube des Anathèmes”. Previously signed to Obscure Abhorrence Productions, the band has released 5 solid albums in the past and continue to do so with their next opus. L'aube des Anathèmes offers a wide range of the mid 90’s Black Metal sound where you can hear undoubtedly the raw / old school black metal in their sound to a certain point where it gets mixed with the synth instrument (that is very present within the symphonic black metal genre) without sounding to symphonic, but rather haunted or vampiric. The guitars however deliver those vile raw and yet melodic riffs that directly make you forget about all the above and just take you on this wave of melodies throughout the album. The drums are pounding with variations between the old school blast beats and fast blast beats to even mid-tempo and thrash like tempos together with an overlay on low bass tones. The vocals can only be complimented for lifting everything up and finalizing that 90’s sound as a whole! Ende has delivered an album that is furious, relentless, melodic (with a touch of symphonic) and driven with the old school 90’s black metal sound and all in all managed to wrap it up in a solid production. L'aube des Anathèmes is a must have for the old school, melodic and even pagan fans of the Black Metal genre! 1. Lilitû (04:48)2. Union Triomphante (06:48)3. Cabale Nocturne (07:02)4. Indigent (06:14)5. Favete Linguis (06:11)6. Eclat de Marbre (06:55)7. Renaissance (05:55)

Pyra is a new found Black / Death Metal band from Italy who combines the obscurity of Black Metal with the filth of Death Metal into a harsh vile sound that knocks you right out of your seat. The guitar is clear and strong like Black Metal has to sound, yet the underlaying bass is disgusting and heavy like in Death Metal which makes the perfect combination of the two. Not to forget to mention that the drums deliver a raw punchy snare sound that gives this record exactly the feeling that it needs. Last but certainly not least, the intense vocals who sound more Death Metal than Black Metal suit perfectly with the music and actually elevates the complete record to a higher level. With their self-titled debut EP, the band shows that their musicianship is relentless and straightforward. The perfect combination of the two genres on one record that fans of both worlds will enjoy to the maximum.

Liber Null, the Italian / Dutch international Black Metal band returns with their second full length album «For Whom Is The Night». Their debut album was released 6 years ago through Osmose Productions but one can say fairly that the band has come a long way when you compare both records. Their second album is so ferocious and relentless which makes it irresistible not to bang your head from start to finish. The complete record has a full sound and a lot of variating tempos which keeps the album interesting. The guitars are heavy but give a lot of room to melodies and single string moments that simply draw you in. The bass guitar is strongly present and underlines the heaviness of the guitars with the right dose to compliment the complete sound without breaking it down where the drums go from left to right, top to bottom. Fast blast beats, mid tempos, fills and the right amount of extra details on the 20” ride and other cymbals to complete the whole instrumental sound. The vocals are haunting aggressive with several nice variations in vocal sound between the vocal lines which brings only one word to mind: Brutal, Brutal, Brutal!!! Just makes you want to slam your head through a wall! Liber Null has managed to deliver an album that kicks from start to finish without breaking down into a weaker moment. Even Old School death metal fans might enjoy this record due to the heaviness of it. A record that every metal fan should have in their collection.

Antikvlt, a brand new Black Metal band from Austria is the brainchild by Chris “Marrok” Brauch (Anomalie, Harakiri for the Sky) who presents its debut full length album “A Revelation of Intoxication”. On this record, Antikvlt leaves no stone unturned and takes you back to the core essence of how Black Metal should sound! Filthy, disgusting, hateful and with no remorse nor any kind of sympathy for political correctness and today’s bullshit! The music itself delivers some outstanding compositions from old school black metal to even a proper dose of Black ‘n’ Roll vibes. Mid-tempo drums blast themselves through the record accompanied by some furious rhythm -and bass guitars who give you that pumping headbang sound that makes you want smash your head into a wall. The lead guitars offer some dissonating melodies to even a few solo parts here and there. The vocals are raw and raspy and work outstanding in combination with the overall sound of the instruments. Marrok has written a record with a sole purpose! Showing the true colours of how Black Metal should sound and it’s fair to say that he has succeeded in his endeavour. He delivered an amazing piece of music as his debut album, an album that will without a doubt be appreciated among the fans of Old School Black Metal & Black ‘n’ Roll. Recommended if you like: Carpathian Forest, Darkthrone, Gorgoroth, Taake, Tsjuder, Urgehal. 1. What Love Can’t Buy (ft. Hoest / Taake) (04:20)2. No Rest for the Sacred (04:47)3. Ars Veneficium, one of Belgium’s most prominent black metal acts is back with their 3rd full length album “The Lurking Shadow of Death”, 4 years after the release of their 2nd full length album “Usurpation of the Seven”. With their new album The Lurking Shadow of Death it is clear that Ars Veneficium has not taken the song writing for granted and managed to overthrow their previous work once more with delivering only the best of their best on this record. From the compositions to the production to the artwork, one can undoubtedly say that this is their best work thus so far. The lead guitars by Ronarg deliver some amazing melodies variated with some aggressive chords where the bass guitar (once again) plays some beautiful underlaying solo notes to create that extra atmosphere which is more or less the Ars Veneficium signature by now. The drum work has been delivered by no one else than Flo Musil (Theotoxin) who blasts his way throughout the album with some outstanding, highly skilled details giving the extra punch that this album absolutely deserves. The vocals by S. are more furious than before and deliver a much wider range and diversity which lifts the whole album to a new level. With The Lurking Shadow of Death, Ars Veneficium has delivered an absolute beast of a black metal album that every fan of old school, satanic or melodic black metal would appreciate! Raging black metal filled with atmosphere, melodies and pumping energy! A must have! 1. Death is Light2. Eye to Eye with the Devil 3. De Glorie van Dood 4. One with the Cosmos5. Into the Void 6. My Tomb Under the Stars7. Pale Image of I

Hexkonst is the 1st full length album by Ondfødt that was originally released in May 2014 on CD through Immortal Frost Productions. Now, 10 years later, the album has been remastered and will be released on Vinyl for the very first time to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the band their debut. Compared to Ondfødt’s recent work you can hear a big difference in approach and production as it should be! Hexkonst brings the listener back to their old days where the production was still harsh or rather raw and the sound writing more of an old school type of black metal with here and there some elements that on the later albums are worked out into a more occultic atmosphere within the black metal genre. All in all, Hexkonst is a vile piece of an old school black metal album for those who like their metal dirty and aggressive. A must have for those who follow Ondfødt and especially for those who like pure 90’s Black Fucking Metal! 1. Ur Djävulens Kittel (01:15)2. Blodspill (04:23)3. Faensgyte (02:40)4. Kristi Fanskap (03:16)5. Giganternes Vraal (04:01)6. Hexkonst (05:03)7. Verlden Er Min Slakteri (03:11)8. Midvintermarsch (05:49)9. Sorgens Skyar (03:00)

Gurthang is back and ready to unleash their 8th studio album entitled: “Martyrium”. Like the 2 previous albums “Hearts of the Hollow and Ascension”, they keep moving forth in the same direction where they mix Black Metal with Doom Metal and a lot of ambient background effects making their sound original and outstanding from any other band. Martyrium however, gives more depth on the guitar parts and delivers some excellent leads that have strong chords, melodies and even a couple of solos. The rhythm guitar brings the same filthy vile sound like we’re used to, where the bass is once again very powerful, harsh, yet, even got a few moments to shine on its own on this record. The drums are well-executed and elevate each song to a higher level by its ferocious diversity it lays down throughout the record and the vocals deliver the same haunted screams which kind of marks the sound of the band. With their 8th album, Gurthang shows us that they’re far from done and still have a lot of cards up their sleeve. A solid album for those who love a good portion of Black / Doom Metal. Recommended if you like: Behemoth, Hate, Azarath, Blaze Of Perdition, Ascension, Vader, Infernal War, etc.. 1. Aesthetics of Solicitude (13:49)2. Conundrum Unfolds (08:10)3. Antithesis of Creation (06:35)4. Discernment (03:36)5. In Voidwards Begotten (10:19)
