In the spring of 1983, members of Genesis reconvened at their studio, named The Farm in Chiddingfold, Surrey, to start work on a new studio album, their first since Abacab (1981). Genesis became their first album written, recorded, and mixed in its entirety at the studio room; previously they had to write in an adjoining space. Having the group work in their own space without the additional pressure of booking studio time and fees resulted in a more relaxed environment. They were joined by engineer Hugh Padgham, who had also worked on Abacab,

Genesis' seventh studio album was released in February 1976 on Charisma Records and was the first to feature drummer Phil Collins as lead vocalist after the departure of Peter Gabriel. The album was a critical and commercial success in the U.K. and U.S., reaching No. 3 and No. 31 respectively. A Trick Of The Tail was a landmark album for the band, and it still stands today as one of their best with classics such as "Dance On A Volcano" and "Squonk."

In the wake of Peter Gabriel's departure from the band, the remaining members of Genesis were determined to forge ahead, showcasing their songwriting prowess and recording prowess in the absence of their iconic frontman. This period marked the genesis of A Trick of the Tail. In mid-1975, the band embarked on an intensive creative journey, crafting new compositions and diligently rehearsing them. Their quest for a new lead vocalist led them to sift through a staggering 400 audition tapes.

As the autumn leaves began to fall, Genesis found themselves at Trident Studios in October, accompanied by producer David Hentschel. Surprisingly, the recording sessions began with an air of uncertainty regarding who would take on the role of lead vocalist. Certified multi-platinum-selling in several countries, including the United States and the United Kingdom, Genesis' album Abacab, released in 1981, marked the band's move from their progressive music roots to more accessible and pop-oriented songs.

Genesis released four singles from the album, the most successful being "Abacab" and "No Reply at All," together with "Man on the Corner." Extensive radio play helped boost the album's commercial success.

The album was engineered by Hugh Padgham, known for his work with other successful artists like Phil Collins and The Police. His production techniques, including the gated reverb drum sound, contributed to the album's modern and radio-friendly sound.

In November 1980 the band bought Fisher Lane Farm, a farmhouse with an adjoining cowshed near Chiddingfold, Surrey, as their new private rehearsal and recording facility. In the process of remodelling the building into a studio, the trio reconvened in the farm house to write and rehearse new material, which initially took place in the living room, and they started recording Abacab in March 1981 once the studio was operational. It was the first Genesis album recorded in England since A Trick of the Tail (1976).

That never happened, but thank God this 1974 double-LP did; this Gabriel-era Genesis masterpiece just missed the Top 40 but remains a magnificent achievement, marrying hypnotic instrumentals with hook-infused rockers: the classic title track, "In the Cage," "Back in N.Y.C.," "The Carpet Crawlers," "Lilywhite Lilith," "Riding the Scree" and more! The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway is the sixth studio album by Genesis and their last album recorded with Peter Gabriel as their lead singer before his departure from the group in 1975.

Genesis' album Nursery Cryme, released in November 1971, marked a significant moment in the band's evolution and showcased the burgeoning talents of their new drummer and vocalist, Phil Collins, plus guitarist Steve Hackett.

Nursery Cryme saw the band take a more aggressive direction of some songs, with substantially improved drumming. The opening piece, "The Musical Box" combined the band's trademark mix of twelve-string guitars with harsh electric guitars and keyboards. The song, a macabre fairy story set in Victorian Britain, became the inspiration for the album cover, and went on to be a live favorite.

This album played a pivotal role in establishing the band's progressive rock sound and laid the foundation for their future success.

Although Peter Gabriel remained the band's primary vocalist, Collins' distinctive voice began to shine through on tracks like "For Absent Friends" and "Harlequin." Double vinyl LP pressing. We Can't Dance is the fourteenth studio album by Genesis, released on 28 October 1991. It is their last album recorded with drummer and singer Phil Collins before his departure in 1996 to pursue solo projects full time. Production began after a four-year period of inactivity from the group, following the commercial success of Invisible Touch (1986) and it's tour. We Can't Dance was a worldwide commercial success for the band. It became the band's fifth consecutive #1 album in the UK and reached #4 in the U.S., where it sold over four million copies. Between 1991 and 1993, six tracks from the album were released as singles, including "No Son of Mine" and "I Can't Dance". The latter received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group With Vocals in 1993.

Double vinyl LP pressing. Calling All Stations is the fifteenth and final studio album by Genesis. Released on 1 September 1997, the album was recorded following the departure of longtime drummer/vocalist Phil Collins from the band in 1996, leaving only keyboardist Tony Banks and guitarist/bassist Mike Rutherford from earlier incarnations of the band. Ray Wilson joined the band as lead vocalist for this album. Of the three singles excerpted from the album, only "Congo" broke the top 40 in the UK. Calling All Stations reached #2 in the UK, and reached #54 on the Billboard 200 and remained 5 weeks on the chart.

Vinyl LP pressing. Invisible Touch is the thirteenth studio album by Genesis, released on 6 June 1986. After taking a break in group activity for each member to continue with their solo projects in 1984, the band reconvened in October 1985 to write and record Invisible Touch with engineer and producer Hugh Padgham. As with their previous album, it was written entirely through group improvisations and no material developed prior to recording was used. Invisible Touch was a worldwide success and reached #1 on the UK Albums Chart and #3 on the US Billboard 200. It remains the band's highest selling album after it was certified multi-platinum for over 1.2 million copies sold in the UK and 6 million sold in the US. Genesis became the first band and foreign act to have five top five singles on the US Billboard Hot 100, with "Invisible Touch" being their first and only song to reach #1 on the charts.
