Simon Green AKA Bonobo, born in March 1976, was raised in rural Hampshire and enjoyed the British folk influences of his father, who sent him to guitar and piano lessons at an early age. Who would have thought that he would go on to become one of the best known downtempo producers and DJs. Bonobo, a reference to the chimpanzee species, debuted in 1999 on the Tru Thoughts compilation When Shapes Join Together . At that time still residing in Brighton, he started his career with the EP Scuba (1999) and the single Terrapin (2000), which were released by Fly Casual Recordings and later got a remix by Amon Tobin which contributed to the producer’s popularity. He was offered label deals with XL Recordings and Mute Records, but Green decided to stay with Tru Thoughts. His debut album Animal Magic (2000), first released by Tru Thoughts, was picked up by Ninja Tune soon after, announcing him as a serious talent capable of reinterpreting electronic music.

The downtempo dub, funk album Animal Magic , was an obvious success and support and first festival appearances in Europe followed. Two years later, Tru Thoughts released One Offs: Remixes & B-Sides a compilation of limited vinyl releases and remixes for artists such as Amon Tobin and Pilote. Dial “M” for Monkey (2003) and its accompanying tour was released in 2005 on the EP Live Sessions , marking the producer’s second major step as he developed his live shows into mesmerizing reworkings of his records. Considerably less electronic was his third album, Days to Come (2006). With guest appearances by Indian singer Bajka as well as Ninja Tune artist Fink and significantly more jazz influences, Green’s media appearances piled up and his tracks appeared more often in movies, television shows, commercials and video games since then. BBC Radio 1 DJ Gilles Peterson’s audience voted Days to Come album of the year. Driven by shuffling British garage-style beats, Bonobo surprised fans with the 2010 album Black Sands . With featured artist Andreya Triana , who can be heard on the tracks Eyesdown and Stay the Same , Green walks us through the post- dubstep era and completely reinvents himself with the uptempo club reissue of Black Sands at Boiler-Room London and a hypnotizing light show. Remixes by Machinedrum, Floating Points , Mark Pritchard , Lapalux und FaltyDL are collected on the album Black Sands Remixed . In 2013, he settled in his New-York studio to record The North Borders . It has been hailed by fans and critics as his best work to date and includes features from Erykah Badu , Grey Reverend (The Cinematic Orchestra) und Cornelia (Portico Quartet) . It entered the Top 30 album charts and was celebrated with an international tour. Also often requested is Bonobo’s contribution to LateNightTales mix series and the vinyl Migration released in 2017, which included guest appearances by Rhye , Nick Murphy (AKA Chet Faker) and the Marroccan group Innov Gnawa. The album was even more successful, reaching number five on the UK charts and winning Album of the Year at the inaugural Electronic Music Awards . His latest vinyl Fragments , came out in 2022 and lets the listeners indulge in an extraordinary sound carousel.

Greens developed a refreshing organic form of electronic music with his project Bonobo, suitable for both dancing and chilling. The richly detailed compositions include influences of jazz , folk und soul well as African, Asian and Middle Eastern musical styles. He is also known for discovering new talent (Andreya Triana, Bajka). He has played over 175 show on three continents, hypnotizing audiences with extensions of his vinyl and stunning light shows. Sold-out shows at the Sydney Opera House and Brixton Academy , as well as his own festival at London’s Roundhouse , are among his greatest successes. With a live ensemble, he played the mainstage at Coachella as well as Glastonbury Festival. The final concert of his longer tour ended at Alexandra Palace in London, where he played by thousands of fans. In 2010 he also worked as a DJ as part of Green Arsenal .
