Brian Bennett, Solstice. This hard to find jazz funk fusion classic finally finds its way back on to 45. Originally limited to a Spanish only 1978 pressing this almost genre defining song has been highly sought after by DJ’s and producers alike. Bennett’s in the pocket groove underscores a futuristic synth lead which characterises the forward looking sound of the time. Sample spotters will easily recognise the lead in synth and classic bassline which have been used many times over, including tracks by NAS, Lootpack, Benny the Butcher and Kaytranada to name a few. Part jazz, part funk with a heavy does of psych the jazz harpist’s melodic sound travels over the heavy backbeat of the drums and an overlay of flutes providing a pulsive rhythmic structure.
