Out of print and lost to time since 2014, “Sierra’s Song” was originally issued on October 13, 2009, via the Beverly Hills

90210 soundtrack. In addition to THE All- American Rejects, the compilation also

boasted a collaboration between Adele and THE Raconteurs, another one with N*e*r*d featuring Santigold, and plenty of exclusive tracks from other notables of the era. Chronologically, “Sierra’s Song” was recorded around the time of When The World Comes Down, AAR’s third studio album. In an abstract sense, the song is somewhat

of a sonic bridge between certain ballad- centric compositions and arrangements

explored on Move Along (“It Ends Tonight,” “Straightjacket Feeling”) and those later realized on When The World Comes Down (“The Wind Blows,” “Another Heart Calls”). To celebrate the 15th anniversary of When The World Comes Down and properly kick off the band’s first North American headlining tour in over a decade (starting August 11, 2023), Dark Operative is ecstatic to bring “Sierra’s Song” back from the beyond via a special full-color 7” picture disc flexi included with every single copy of the reissued LP. Bound/Cured are two brand-new songs from the Richmond, Virginia/Asheville, North Carolina/San Diego, California, quartet Bleach Everything. Their first new recordings since 2019’s split LP with Integrity, Bound/Cured goes even further into both the pure violence put forth on 2018’s So We Gnaw LP and the melodic components introduced on the aforementioned Rftcc recording. Clocking at 1:29 and 1:08 respectively, both songs get in, get to the point, and then get out with razorlike precision, cutting exactly as intended. Thematically, “Bound” explores the uncertainty of luck and life and never truly knowing how it can, will, and can still shake out. “Cured” addresses the notion of figuring out how one must come to terms with the truth before death takes care of the task. Live At Old South Church is a special live recording from Beverly, MA’s Caspian. Originally issued in 2012 on the Mylene Sheath label, this formal reissue on Dark Operative marks the first time it has been in print physically in over five years. On October 22, 2010, Caspian put on their own benefit concert in Boston, MA with proceeds of the performance going to Amirah, a non-profit organization focusing on whole-person care for survivors of human sexual trafficking. Live At Old South Church is a document of that night’s performance, recorded during the band’s touring cycle on the “ertia album. It is a mix of songs from You are the Conductor (“Last Rites”), The Four Trees (“The Dove,” “ASA,”), and Tertia (“Concrescence,” “Sycamore”). As one might imagine, a hometown show in front of a hometown crowd benefitting survivors of such harrowing and traumatic circumstance lends to a performance that fires across all emotional cylinders. Live At Old South Church captures Caspian amidst such catharsis and healing, fully encapsulating the confident triumph and jubilant exhilarations found within songs such as “Last Rites” and “asa” and the delicate, introspective beauty present in the melodies that shape “Sycamore” and “The Dove.” If transcendence is the goal of any given live performance, then mission accomplished.

Kitchen is the first aural glimpse into the Vespertine project, a collaborative concept wherein the entirety of Chef Jordan Kahn’s new Culver City restaurant has been custom-scored by Los Angeles’ own This Will Destroy YOU. One of seven pieces written for the building itself (and even the space around it), Kitchen is the music that diners first hear as they are greeted by Chef Kahn before dinner service begins for the evening. In composing the music for this interaction, This Will Destroy YOU’s Chris King and Jeremy Galindo sought to convey a warm, hospitable – if not reassuring – tone for listeners that may (or may not) be present elsewhere as they discover and explore the spaces in and around Vespertine’s looming architectural monolith for the remainder of their stay.
