Introducing "Lab Progression" the exciting collaborative project of Midan and Jammin Berries. This talented duo brings together contemporary Neo-Jazz beats and groovy lofi-esque tunes, creating a captivating blend of musical genres.

Their debut album is a collection of authentic jams recorded in the studio. Despite both being beatmakers, their collaboration feels more like a band, thanks to their shared musicality and creativity.

Jammin Berries is a skilled pianist and guitarist, while Midan shines as a bassist and multi-instrumentalist. Influenced by oldschool Jazz legends like Oscar Peterson and Jammin Berries interest in classical artists such a Bach, the duo has engaged in numerous discussions on how to infuse Hip Hop beats with a fresh, melodic twist including more interesting and complex Jazzy chord progressions. Hence the origin of their name “Lab Progression”.

Inspired by contemporary artists such as the Jazzbois, FloFilz and Kiefer, as well as the timeless creations of J Dilla, Lab Progression strives to combine the best of both old and new, resulting in a unique and captivating album.

With a career spanning over a decade, FloFilz has earned international acclaim for his distinctive production, capturing the attention of listeners worldwide.

His new release serves as a culmination of 10 tracks crafted over a two-year period, showcasing FloFilz's skill as an artist. Collaborating with both longtime friends (Hubert Daviz, Wun Two) and new musical companions (Rob Araujo, Hnny, Gabiga), the record reflects his diverse influences and experiences, including a stay at a songwriting camp in France in late summer '23. The impressive roster of internationally renowned producers and the additional feature by talented Los Angeles-based singer Kallitechnis, adding a dynamic dimension to the project.

Describing the project FloFilz shared, "It’s kind of a breather, a way to remind myself of the journey so far and what’s to come. A handing to old and new listeners, a waypoint and a thank you."

Legendary Cologne beat smith Hulk Hodn not only wrote German indie rap history with MC Retrogott, but also helped kickstart the instrumental beat movement in the late 2000s. Under the Hodini moniker, he dabbled in lo-fi house, but now he’s back with a vengeance under his original name: 19 sparkling beat jewels that float effortlessly between classic hip-hop, jazz influences and neo soul. »Sparklez« contains a half hour of summery, relaxed little gems that will perfectly soundtrack your next Beach Cruiser ride.

These instrumentals owe a lot to Californian lo-fi heroes like Madlib or Kankick, but some of them nod approvingly to South London or Southern Cologne as well. This is a selection of musical sketches and notes taken over the past 3.5 years.

I used framedrums and a large sample library of field recordings and sounds of furniture and objects. These sounds were originally created for the scores of dance theaters and are the foundation for the beats.

Some consist of only 2 tracks, others are more complex. Sometimes it was a 20 minute session, sometimes I worked on them for several hours.

Everything is played live, each beat was completed in a single session using only first takes and rough edits.
