The quest to bring all Nest works to life in a new mix and for the first time on vinyl is something we take very seriously here at Avantgarde Music. A few months after re-releasing the Finnish band’s first two EPs combined, Fabled Lore / Hidden Stream, it’s time to announce the release of Nest’s classic debut, Woodsmoke, which will be released on CD and LP on January 17th, 2025. Here follow a few words from Aslak Tolonen, the band’s mastermind.Woodsmoke is the first professionally released Nest full length album. It builds on all the elements that came before and uses them to weave a fully formed aural storybook. It combines fast driving songs with slower introspective atmospheres. It is highly melodious, and adds a wide variety of synthetic soundscapes. The core, as always, is the Finnish national instrument - the kantele (a kind of lap harp) - and it is joined by an even wider range of synthetic instruments, varied percussion, and spoken word vocals meant to evoke the mystical and the profound. Upgraded audio equipment, with new recording and mixing capabilities, elevates the quality of the material even further. The result is an inquiring mix of acoustic and ambient, melody and atmosphere, in an entrancing package. It explores the themes of nature,the grandioseness and the brutality found in the untamed wilds. By now Mesarthim needs no introduction: the anonymous duo going by. And. originated in Australia in 2015, but has long since left planet Earth to reach the farthest galaxies. With this latest output, Avantgarde Music wants to bring together the two latest stand-alonge singles released by the duo, which haven't found any distribution outside of the band's own Bandcamp yet. The result is a 38-minute release that perfectly shows the most recent wanderings of the band. Anthropic Bias (2022) explores themes of cosmic significance and existential philosophy, echoing the idea of humanity's tendency to see the universe as centered around itself. The music itself is a fusion of icy, tremolo-picked guitar riffs, blast beats, and haunting, atmospheric synth layers. It carries an otherworldly mood, drifting between aggression and contemplation. The song also incorporates electronic elements and ambient interludes, which provide a vast, ethereal soundscape. This single is both relentless and meditative, capturing Mesarthim's ability to craft immersive, spacey atmospheres while retaining black metal's raw intensity. Departure (2024) leans heavily into the band's cosmic themes, evoking feelings of journeying through space or leaving behind something familiar.

Todestrieb is a Polish black metal duo formed in 2023 in Cracow by blein (guitars and bass) and Res (vocals and lyrics). Some things are just supposed to happen. Avantgarde Music and Abysmal Grief have been on this earth for almost three decades, dealing with the dark and obscure, and only miles apart. Yet, they never worked together. Until now. Despise The Living, Desecrate The Dead is a compilation of "outtakes, oddities and unused material from the period 2016-2021" marking the beginning of the cooperation between the record label from Milan and the long-standing occult metal band from Genoa. In the words of guitarist Regen Graves, Despise The Living... contains "songs recorded and mixed in our studio along the last few years, with different line-ups, that for a number of reasons were never included in previous releases". Among these are covers of obscure, dark Italian bands of old, a doom metal rework of a funeral march from the '50s, and of course a number of new Abysmal Grief songs. Due to the particular nature of it's genesis, Despise The Living, Desecrate The Dead will be released in a limited, vinyl only run, on March 31st, 2023.

Vinyl LP pressing. Spanish doom/post-metal quintet Ikarie is back with their sophomore album Arde, two years after the acclaimed debut Cuerpos en Sombra. Here is how the band introduces their work... If Cuerpos en Sombra was about pain, Arde is about transformative rage. In the first part we presented a series of characters and desolate places, with bodies and souls sunk in misery and mud, of ghosts who are victims but are not aware of the fact that they are being victims. In this part of the trilogy that doesn't happen, although the denunciation and lamentation is maintained, it is no longer spoken of the land in that sense but of burning everything for a new beginning, from that fire, so deep and painful, which hanges the shape of things, like magma and the creation of stars, like a collision of planets, there is no way back after that. With the advice of a forensic psychologist and criminologist, we have selected passages from history, victims and paradigmatic and tremendous characters that exemplify Hannah Arendt's concept of the banality of evil properly, because as a society we are part of it, and therefore, it is a call to revolution.

Following the EP Iterum released in 2022, it marks the group's return to the front of the stage. Cernunnos is an ancient Gaulish god who embodied the biological cycle of nature, simultaneously reflecting life and death, germination and decay, like the deer, the animal that represents him, who loses it's antlers in winter to recover them in spring. This title perfectly symbolizes the history of Dark Sanctuary after these years of artistic break and this rebirth. Composed during the year 2022, the 11 songs of this album make it one of the most varied that Dark Sanctuary have made so far, oscillating between what has characterized the band for two decades and new musical horizons. Both dark and emotional, Cernunnos is a new milestone in the history of the group.
