The Jayhawks' 2003 seventh album backs away from their "super-pop" releases like Smile and the underrated Sound of Lies and looks back to their earlier, rootsier sound. A crisp, gorgeous collection of songs, the back-to basics Rainy Day Music took The Jayhawks a mere six weeks to record and mix from start to finish. The album channels the ghosts of the Byrds, Crosby, Stills & Nash, and Buffalo Springfield, and interpreting their '60s folk jangle and lazy, sunny harmonies through The Jayhawks' own sweetly awkward formula. The first six tracks are all vintage Louris gems - trembling and honest, with warm melodies and hooks for days. Frontman Gary Louris says of the album "It has a rainy day, English countryside kind of feel to it. I think we have been described as a very American band with a very British songwriting style. Maybe that has something to do with it."

2014 vinyl LP pressing reissue. On 1995's Tomorrow the Green Grass, The Jayhawks found themselves in the tricky situation of trying to match the quality of Hollywood Town Hall without simply repeating themselves, and they came remarkably close to achieving that daunting task. Rather than simply mimic the warm and unaffected sound of Hollywood Town Hall, The Jayhawks reached for a broader and more eclectic approach on Tomorrow the Green Grass; with the presence of new keyboard player Karen Grotberg and the addition of strings on several tracks, the album certainly sounded fuller and more artful, but Mark Olson and Gary Louris' harmonies were still the band's secret weapon, and were as pure and emotionally compelling as ever, while Louris' electric guitar solos gave the songs real Rock & Roll muscle without disturbing the essentially gentle nature of their music.

2014 remastered 2 X vinyl LP pressing reissue with 5 bonus tracks. Following Mark Olson's amicable departure, the remaining Jayhawks reconvened under the direction of Gary Louris to record 1997's Sound of Lies, the band's most ambitious album to date. Like Wilco's Being There, Sound of Lies uses country-rock as a foundation and wanders off into a variety of different sonic territories, including surf rock and Beatlesque pop, bringing the music closer to the sound of adult alternative pop/rock. Although the surface of the album is pleasant and melodic, Louris has written a uniformly harrowing set of songs, inspired both by the dissolution of his partnership with Olson and a recent divorce. The lyrics have a naked, emotional honesty which would have been more affecting if the music echoed it's sentiment, yet the record still has a subtle grace and power, proving that The Jayhawks remain a distinctive band without Olson.

Limited double vinyl LP pressing of this album by the American rockers. The Southern Harmony And Musical Companion is the second album by The Black Crowes, released on May 12, 1992. It was the first record by the band to feature Marc Ford on lead guitar, replacing Jeff Cease, who was fired the year before. The album's name derives from the full name of the Southern Harmony, an influential 1835 hymnal compiled by William Walker. It features four hit singles; "Remedy" (#1 on the Album Rock Tracks chart for 11 weeks), "Thorn in My Pride" (#1 on the Album Rock Tracks chart for four weeks), "Sting Me" (#1 on the Album Rock Tracks chart for two weeks), and "Hotel Illness" (#1 on the Album Rock Tracks chart for six weeks). It was a record for an album to feature four album-rock #1 hits (previously set by Tom Petty in 1989, with three). The album itself reached the top spot of the Billboard 200 album chart, propelled by the success of these singles.
