Originally released in 2005 on Metal Blade Records, The Fall of Rome stands out in the metalcore scene for a couple of reasons. First, vocalist Matt Tarpey delivers a genuinely pained scream that virtually never let's up, adding a raw intensity to the music. Second, the production has a grainy and biting edge, eschewing the overly polished sound common in many metalcore albums. The Fall of Rome is as metalcore as it gets-harsh, claustrophobic, ferocious, and extremely dense, with no trace of musical subtlety.
