Alligator Bites Never Heal showcases Doechiis versatility across genres such as alternative hip hop, alternative R&B, and trap. It features production from Camper, Childish Major, Kal Banx, Devin Malik, and Monte Booker, among others, with a guest appearance by rapper Kuntfetish.

Pitchfork noted the project's blend of "playful and melodic sides without skimping on hard-hitting hip-hop."

"Alligator Bites Never Heal" received significant acclaim, earning nominations for Best Rap Album at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards, with "Nissan Altima" nominated for Best Rap Performance, and Doechii herself for Best New Artist.
The album also appeared on several year-end lists, ranking ninth on Rolling Stone's "The 100 Best Albums of 2024."

The title and cover art pay homage to Doechii's Florida roots, featuring her holding an albino alligator, symbolizing her nickname, the "Swamp Princess."

Coalmine Reissues in partnership with Stunning English are pleased to announce this special edition vinyl reissue of CunninLynguists’ celebrated debut LP, Will Rap for Food, marking the first time the album will be available on wax since 2005. Consisting of founding members Deacon the Villain and Kno, the duo would make a name for themselves for their East Coast-influenced boom bap with a southern charm, abound with battleready braggadocio and side-splitting humor. Right from the intro, the pair get down to business, delivering a balanced combination of both lighthearted subjects and weighty material, produced largely by Kno, whose skillfully crafted soundscapes would catapult him into the upper echelon of beat makers with his style of ’90s New York loop-digging and chipmunk soul. On the lyrical tip, Deacon and Kno manage to incorporate punchline rhymes, introspective musings, and your more standard rap boasts without ever sounding forced. Deacon is especially adept at the wordplay, where heopens up the album with the line, “The music makes me high even though I stay away from cannabis like Wyclef.” In addition to their quick witted bars, the duo also chart out more emotional terrain, with Deacon’s confessional account of finding himself through hip-hop on “Mic Like A Memory” and Kno’s painful story of abandonment by his mother on “Family Ties.” With the album title and scattered skits of two panhandling emcees, the CunninLynguists playfully appeal to both the mainstream and underground dichotomy, without dwelling on the distinction.

R.I.P. Trugoy the Dove

Finally, back on vinyl. Now as a double vinyl LP, officially reissued. This is the yellow indie exclusive vinyl edition. Must have!

3 Feet High and Rising is the debut studio album by hip hop trio De La Soul and was released on March 3, 1989. It marked the first of three full-length collaborations with producer Prince Paul, which would become the critical and commercial peak of both parties. Critically, as well as commercially, the album was a success. It contains the singles, "Me, Myself and I", "The Magic Number", "Buddy", and "Eye Know". The album title came from the Johnny Cash song "Five Feet High and Rising". It is listed on Rolling Stone's 200 Essential Rock Records and The Source's 100 Best Rap Albums. When Village Voice held its annual Pazz & Jop Critics Poll in 1989, 3 Feet High and Rising was ranked #1. It was also listed on the Rolling Stone's The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. Released amid the 1989 boom in gangsta rap, which gravitated towards hardcore, confrontational, violent lyrics, De La Soul's uniquely positive style made them an oddity beginning with the first single, "Me, Myself and I". Their positivity meant many observers labeled them a 'hippie' group, based on their declaration of the 'D.A.I.S.Y. Age' (Da. Inner. Soul. Yall). Sampling artists as diverse as Hall & Oates, Steely Dan and The Turtles, 3 Feet High and Rising is often viewed as the stylistic beginning of 1990s alternative hip hop (and especially jazz rap).

Double vinyl LP pressing. Let's Get Free was the debut studio album by hip-hop duo Dead Prez, originally released in 2000. Critically acclaimed upon it's release, Let's Get Free was called a "return to politically conscious rap" and, "the most politically conscious rap since Public Enemy"; the duo's messages also earned them favorable comparisons with Brand Nubian, The Coup, Def Jef and X-Clan. The album's lyrics, performed in front of sparse beats are startlingly direct, militant, and confrontational. M-1 and stic. Man excoriates the media, the music industry, politicians, and poverty, and urge their target audience to study socialism and ideas of black power. Rolling Stone gave the album four stars and lauded it's equation of "classrooms with jail cells, the projects with killing fields and everything from water to television with conduits for brainwashing by the system".

GNX is the sixth studio album by American rapper Kendrick Lamar, released unexpectedly digitally on November 22, 2024, through PGLang and Interscope Records. This album follows his 2022 release, "Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers," and marks his first project after departing from longtime labels Top Dawg Entertainment and Aftermath Entertainment.

The album's title, "GNX," references the Buick Grand National Experimental, a limited-production model of the Buick Regal from 1987, known for its all-black appearance and high performance.

"GNX" comprises 12 tracks, featuring collaborations with artists such as SZA on "Luther" and "Gloria." The production team includes notable figures like Jack Antonoff, Sounwave, and DJ Mustard. The album's opening track, "Wacced Out Murals," delves into Lamar's experiences and relationships within the music industry, mentioning artists like Snoop Dogg, Nas, and Lil Wayne. The song reflects on Lamar's journey and the dynamics of his interactions with these artists. "Squabble Up," another track from the album, showcases Lamar's integration of California rap styles, including G-funk and hyphy, mixed with vibrant influences such as mariachi. This track channels a carefree and rebellious spirit, even evoking 2Pac’s defiant attitude. "Heart Pt. 6" continues Lamar's long-running biographical series, detailing his split with Top Dawg Entertainment to form his own creative communications company, PGLang.

The surprise release of "GNX" has been met with significant attention and acclaim, further solidifying Kendrick Lamar's status as a leading figure in contemporary hip-hop.

When Apollo Brown and Crimeapple connect, it’s like old film grain under a projector—gritty, timeless. This album isn’t just boom-bap nostalgia; it’s a rebirth of smoke-stained bars, where Crimeapple plays both poet and philosopher, flipping bilingual manteca rhymes with a chef’s precision, stirring up the street grime and serving it with a side of sharp wit. Apollo Brown, as always, builds his beats like ancient architecture—dusty, soulful, and heavy with forgotten stories. These tracks sound like the cracks in the sidewalk talking back, the perfect companion for long nights and even longer thoughts. It’s a sonic novel, a street sermon, and Crimeapple’s wordplay dances through it like grease sizzling in a pan, a reminder that even in decay, there’s beauty. This, Is Not That.

Originally released in 2004, MF Doom's MM..FOOD is hailed as a classic | hip-hop album full of inventive production, brilliant wordplay, and unique themes. Celebraled for its seamless blend of humor, wit, and social commentary, the album ushers listeners into a bizarre world af food-related metaphors, painting a bitterly comedic portrait of a life tainted by vice, violence, and jealousy. It was a brilliant and novel concept that gave Doom plenty of room to explore the album's subjects. Throughout MM..FOOD, Doom embeds complex ideas within seemingly simple narratives. Album opener "Beef Rapp' is a multi-pronged metaphor reminding listeners of the dangers involved in the glorification of conflict, especially within the rap game. "Hoe Cakes" borrows its name from the sweet, hot water cornmeal patties, which he uses as a symbol to rhyme about indulgence and excess. Continuing the motif, Doom uses the Madlib-produced "One Beer" to fold layers of depth about escapism and ego, while the popular "Rapp Snitch Knishes" critiques the sell-incrimination and contradictory behaviors of some rappers. Overall, MM..FOOD is both a social commentary and a piece of social satire, showcasing MF Doom'S ability to blend serious themes with his unique, playful lyrical style. In celebration of the album's 20th anniversary, MM..FOOD has been repackaged with all new artwork by Sam Rodriguez!

2024 pressing of this classic 90s Roots gem!

Illadelph Halflife is the third studio album by the legendary hip-hop group The Roots, released on September 24, 1996. This album solidified The Roots' reputation as innovative musicians who blend live instrumentation with traditional hip-hop elements, standing out in an era where most rap groups used sample-based production.

The album features The Roots' signature blend of live instrumentation, jazz-infused beats, and socially conscious lyrics, along with skilled wordplay. The band’s drummer, Questlove, and rapper/lyricist Black Thought (Tariq Trotter) take the lead in crafting a sound that moves between laid-back grooves and more intense, intricate musical arrangements. Live instrumentation is a core element, with a focus on creating complex rhythms and organic soundscapes.

Illadelph Halflife addresses various topics, including social issues, racial identity, urban life, and the challenges of fame.
The lyrics are often introspective, with Black Thought offering sharp commentary on the struggles of African Americans, the complexities of relationships, and the pressures of navigating the music industry.
The album also explores the concept of self-doubt and searching for authenticity in both personal and societal contexts.

While not a massive commercial hit upon its release, the album was critically acclaimed for its innovative production, complex lyricism, and the tight cohesion of The Roots as a band. It has since become regarded as one of the most important hip-hop albums of the 1990s. It is celebrated for balancing underground aesthetics with more accessible sounds, paving the way for alternative hip-hop to gain a broader audience.
Some tracks that stand out:
"What They Do" – A critique of materialism and superficiality in the music industry, accompanied by a memorable video that parodied flashy rap videos.
"Concerto of the Desperado" – A harder, more aggressive track, showcasing Black Thought’s lyrical prowess and The Roots' dynamic, live sound.
"Clones" – One of the more aggressive tracks, addressing the concept of originality versus imitation in hip-hop.
"Episodes" – A dark and introspective track that delves into street life and violence.

Illadelph Halflife helped The Roots gain a devoted fan base and led to further critical recognition. It is often cited as one of the most influential hip-hop albums of the era, known for its jazz influence, conscious lyricism, and its rejection of the dominant sound in mid-90s hip-hop.
This album marked a turning point for The Roots as they began to shift towards even more experimental and politically engaged projects, which would later culminate in their landmark album Things Fall Apart in 1999.
Illadelph Halflife represents The Roots at a critical stage in their evolution, showcasing their ability to blend musicianship and message, setting them apart as one of the most innovative groups in hip-hop history.

For the first time ever, Silent Weapons for Quiet Wars, the seminal debut from Killarmy, has been reissued on vinyl through a collaborative release between Granddaddy Flow Entertainment and Coalmine Reissues. This groundbreaking album from the Wu-Tang Clan's extended family captures the spirit of a post-Desert Storm, pre-millennium era, channeling pro-black ideologies and war metaphors into a raw, cinematic listening experience. Comprising 9th Prince, Killa Sin, Beretta 9, Islord, P.R. Terrorist, and ShoGun Assasson, Killarmy delivers a militant, unapologetically gritty aesthetic that redefined underground hip-hop. The album’s standout singles include the powerful “Camouflage Ninjas”, an anthem of guerrilla survival; “Wake Up”, a call-to-arms urging societal and personal revolution; and the incendiary “Wu-Renegades,” a battle cry for lyrical supremacy. Guest contributions from Hell Razah, Masta Killa, Prodigal Sunn, and Streetlife enrich the project, while the production—helmed primarily by the iconic 4th Disciple—provides a hauntingly cinematic backdrop. With somber, ominous instrumentals and razor-sharp beats, 4th Disciple’s work embodies the raw and uncompromising tone of the album. Originally released in 1997, Silent Weapons for Quiet Wars remains an incredible piece of art that helped cement the legacy of the Clan as the most far-reaching and fabled crew in hip-hop history. Its themes of survival, rebellion, and black empowerment resonate today, making this vinyl reissue a musthave for collectors and fans alike. Experience the militant poetry and dark sonic landscapes of Killarmy like never before.

Ol' Dirty Bastard aka Ason Unique, real name Russell Jones, was truly a one-of-a-kind, never-to-be-imitated emcee. As one of the founding members of the Wu-Tang Clan, Ol' Dirty Bastard released his classic RZA-produced debut solo album Return To The 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version in 1995. After the release of Wu-Tang Forever in '97, ODB had several run-ins with the law and was in and out of court and jail, but it didn't stop him from being himself. ODB got back in the studio in 1999 to record his second studio album and with a little help from The Neptunes dropped the hit single "Got Your Money." The video for the single was cut with scenes from Dolemite and one scene inspired the name of the album N***a Please which was released on Sept 14th, 1999, and would unfortunately be the last album to be released during Ol' Dirty Bastard's lifetime. The album is full of ODB's lyrical antics backed by a crew of producers including the RZA and Wu-Tang affiliated Tru Master and Buddah Monk along with The Neptunes and Irv Gotti. Out of print on vinyl since it was released 25 years ago, Get On Down is proud to honor the legacy of Ol' Dirty Bastard with a translucent yellow smoke and clear with smoke-colored vinyl pressing packaged in a gatefold jacket with a 25th Anniversary hype sticker.

"This RSD edition features the illustrated version of the album cover
(previously only paired w/ a CD reissue), printed on reverse board
jackets. Both discs are pressed in a three-color segment
configuration with emerald, cobalt and lemonade translucent vinyl.
Coalmine Reissues in partnership with Stunning
English are pleased to announce this special
Record Store Day vinyl reissue of
CunninLynguists’ acclaimed sophomore LP,
SouthernUnderground, marking the first time
that the album has ever been reissued on wax.
Originally released in April of 2003, the album is
a masterclass in Southern hip-hop that artfully
balances lyricism, storytelling, and soulful
production. The trio—consisting of Deacon the
Villain, Kno, and at the time Mr. SOS—carves a
niche in the Southern rap landscape with a
sound that's deeply rooted in the region's
musical traditions while pushing the boundaries
of the genre. From the outset, tracks like
""Southernunderground"" and ""Dying Nation""
showcase Kno’s eclectic production, blending
soulful samples, live instrumentation, and
organic boom-bap beats. The production style
complements Deacon and SOS’s sharp lyricism,
adding depth to the album's social commentary
on race, poverty, and politics.
One of the album’s standout features is its
impeccable balance between introspection and
wit. Songs like ""Love Ain’t"" offer a somber
reflection on love and heartbreak, while ""War"" presents a poignant
critique of the United States' foreign policy. However, the group
doesn’t shy away from playful and humorous lyricism either, seen in
tracks like the Masta Ace assisted ""Seasons,"" which cleverly uses the
metaphor of changing seasons to chart hip-hop’s evolution.
What makes SouthernUnderground particularly timeless is its unique
fusion of Southern roots with a boom-bap sensibility, allowing the
group to avoid the typical rap tropes often associated with Southern
rap. All things considered, SouthernUnderground cements the
CunninLynguists as underground rap titans capable of crafting
complex, thought-provoking music without sacrificing Southern
charm."

HHV exclusive vinyl edition on purple vinyl, limited to 200 copies.

Souls Of Mischief, the Oakland, CA quartet and members of the mighty Hieroglyphics Crew, are proud to announce the first-ever vinyl release of their fifth album "Montezuma's Revenge." Notably, the album’s striking cover featured a fifth member of the group: the legendarily innovative producer Prince Paul, who executive produced the LP, handling most of the beats and overseeing the musical direction of the album from start to finish. Emcees A-Plus, Opio, Phesto, and Tajai take turns showing off the multisyllabic flows, witty similes, and smooth lyrics that have made the crew a household name in rap for over 30 years. Souls' trademark juxtaposition of complex, multi-syllabic lyricism against laid-back Cali flow remained as strong as it was in 1993 on “Montezuma’s Revenge,” and Paul’s magic touch on production took the Souls’ sound to a new level. While the aforementioned and unmistakable SOM sound remains very much intact, Paul's vision and risk-taking come through on the finished product. Tajai was comfortable from the start in working with the visionary producer: ”Paul is a perfectionist and so are we so we took time with the beats and subject matter. This album to me is a great insight into who we are as people and how important it is to progress stylistically, yet it retains a classic, timeless feel."

De La Soul’s third studio release, Buhloone Mindstate, released on September 21, 1993, saw the group evolve into a new sound as they continued to grow stylistically and musically. There were several moments on the album which proved the band had matured. "I Be Blowin'" was a departure as the track was an instrumental featuring saxophone playing by Maceo Parker. The introspective "I Am I Be" showed De La Soul at their most self-referential to date. "Long Island Wildin'" was a collaboration with Japanese hip hop artists Kan Takagi (Major Force) and trio Scha Dara Parr (sdp). The album's first single, "Breakadawn", used a sample of Michael Jackson's "I Can't Help It" and Smokey Robinson's "Quiet Storm". De La Soul collaborated for the first time with Gang Starr's Guru on "Patti Dooke", and female MC Shortie No Mas who was prominent on many tracks on the album and showcased particularly on "In The Woods". The album ended with an old school Biz Markie collaboration called "Stone Age".

Attention: Intro, Skits and Interludes are not part of this reissue, unfortunately.

Mundian To Bach Ke" is a bhangra track produced by British musician Panjabi MC, featuring vocals and lyrics by Punjabi artist Labh Janjua. Originally recorded in Birmingham, England, for Panjabi MC's 1998 album Legalised, the song gained international acclaim upon its re-release as a single in November 2002.

The track is notable for its fusion of traditional bhangra elements with contemporary hip-hop influences. It incorporates the bassline and beat from Busta Rhymes' 1997 song "Fire It Up," which itself samples the theme from the television series Knight Rider, composed by Glen A. Larson and Stu Phillips. The lyrics, delivered in Punjabi, caution young women to be wary of the intentions of young men.
BEATCRAVE

In 2003, a remix titled "Beware of the Boys" featured American rapper Jay-Z, further propelling the song's popularity. This version reached number 33 on the US Billboard Hot 100, number 10 in Canada, and number 12 in Australia.

The collaboration between Panjabi MC and Jay-Z is often credited with introducing bhangra music to a broader Western audience, blending Eastern and Western musical styles.

The song has been featured in various media, including films like Bulletproof Monk (2003) and The Dictator (2012), as well as video games such as Dance Central 3 and Just Dance 4. Its enduring appeal lies in its cross-cultural fusion and catchy rhythm, making it a staple in both Eastern and Western music scenes.

After teasing its forthcoming release this past weekend at Tyler, The Creator's Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival, the Mac Miller Estate announces the release of his album Balloonerism. Alongside the album’s formal announcement, the Estate is sharing the trailer for the album’s accompanying film, which is directed by Samuel Mason.

Speaking about the release, his family shares:

Many of Malcolm's fans are aware of Balloonerism, a full-length album that Malcolm created around the time of the release of Faces in 2014. It is a project that was of great importance to Malcolm -- to the extent that he commissioned artwork for it and discussions concerning when it should be released were had regularly, though ultimately GO:OD AM and subsequent albums ended up taking precedence.

We believe the project showcases both the breadth of his musical talents and fearlessness as an artist. Given that unofficial versions of the album have circulated online for years and that releasing Balloonerism was something that Malcolm frequently expressed being important to him, we felt it most appropriate to present an official version of the project to the world. With that in mind, we're happy to announce that Balloonerism will be released on January 17th, 2025.

The album was born from the same creative period in which Mac was working on Watching Movies with the Sound Off, Delusional Thomas, Faces and more, and represents the creative ambition that he had agnostic of musical genre.

Debut album from Scientifik originally released in 1994 on the Definite label. The label went under shortly after releasing this album which is hailed by many as a classic. Around the time of release, Scientifik was working with Joe Mansfield and Edo. G and made connections with some of NY's bigger names such as RZA, Diamond D and Buckwild who he enlisted on his debut album. Unfortunately, in 1998 Scientifik and his girlfriend died in a car accident. Aside from his debut album, only one other album made up of a collection of demos was later released.

Green fade vinyl double album in Gatefold jacket with custom dust sleeves. US version, only available in the EU at HHV! Because of their mix of hellified gangster shit and progressive compositions, I once jokingly called Clipping "Deathrow Tull." Well, it's not a joke anymore. While Clipping's last few projects have been record-long concepts like classic prog rock, their cyberpunk-infused new album Dead Channel Sky is mixtape-like, a carefully curated collection in which every track is a love letter to a possible present. It sounds crisp and classic at the same time. When something strikes us as retrospective and futuristic at the same time, it's a reminder of how slipshod our present moment truly is. Juxtaposing high-tech, corporate command-and-control systems (the "cyber") with the lo-fi, D.I.Y. underground (the "punk"), cyberpunk proper starts in 1982 and ends in 1999, from Blade Runner to The Matrix. Concurrently, hip-hop matured, went through its Golden Era, then melted into further forms: it went from from Fab 5 Freddy to Public Enemy to Missy Elliott. While other genres flirted with it, hip-hop was fickle and fey. Rap and rock birthed mutant offspring maligned by most, and hip-hop's relations with electronica rarely fared any better. What if someone explicitly merged hip-hop and cyberpunk - those twin suns of the '80s and '90s - into one set and sound? After all, both movements are the result of hacking the haunted leftovers of a war-torn culture that's long since moved on. On Dead Channel Sky, Clipping texture-map the twin histories of hip-hop and cyberpunk onto an alternate present where Rammellzee and Bambaataa are the superheroes of old; where Cybotron and Mantronix are the reigning legends; where Egyptian Lover and Freestyle are debated endlessly, and Ultramag and Public Enemy are the undeniable forefathers; where the lost movements of 1980s and the 1990s are still happening: rave, trip-hop, hip-house, acid house, drum & bass, big beat-the detritus of a different timeline, the survivors of armed audio warfare. Clipping are no strangers to sci-fi: two of their records were nominated for Hugo Awards (one of science fiction's top literary prizes), and a novella spun-off from their music was nominated for a third. On Dead Channel Sky, Clipping's co-conspirators include everyone from the guitarist Nels Cline, to their labelmates Cartel Madras, rapper/actor Tia Nomore, and wordsmith Aesop Rock. Diggs is known for intricate lyrics and rapid-fire rapping, and the tracks that Snipes and Hutson build in the background are no less complex. All of the above serves to give us a glimpse of an adjacent possible present, where hip-hop and cyberpunk are one culture. Binary stars are often perceived as one object when viewed with the naked eye. Like those twin sun systems, it'll take some special equipment and some discerning attention to pull the stars apart on this record. As Diggs barks on the fire-starting "Change the Channel": Everything is very important!

A quarter century since their 1998 debut, No Fear of Time finally reunites one of the greatest hip-hop duos of all-time, Black Star. Group members yasiin bey and Talib Kweli first joined forces to deliver their iconic breakout, Mos Def and Talib Kweli are Black Star, which quickly became one of hip-hop's most revered works and launched both already-rising stars into the stratosphere. Although each has since enjoyed success and acclaim in their individual careers, they've never realigned for a sophomore follow-up to that release until now.Produced entirely by renowned beatsmith Madlib, No Fear of Time has a future vibe with vintage soul. The 9-track album was recorded guerrilla-style in hotels and dressing rooms around the globe, and initially saw a non-traditional release, being made available exclusively on a subscription-based podcast platform. Now, the album is officially available on physical formats for fans worldwide to own and appreciate the triumphant return of Black Star.

New York producer P-Sol has hit on a super effective formula for starting the party, stitching together a selection of familiar samples and hooks, adding some beautifully dusty breaks and adding a final sheen of shiny production skills. Both sides of this 7" have a touch of raw 'two turntables' action about them, while remaining impeccably constructed and tight, with the A-side 'This Way' proving to be the slightly speedier and slightly more funk/r&b-flavoured, while 'Breathe & Stop (Abstract Blend)' is the one for the pure hip-hop heads. Both, however, are dynamite in the box, needless to say.

'Illmatic' is the debut studio album by American rapper Nas, released in April 1994. Often cited as one of the best hip-hop albums of the '90s, 'Illmatic' is the undisputed classic upon which Nas' reputation rests. It helped spearhead the artistic renaissance of New York hip-hop in the post-Chronic era, leading a return to street aesthetics. Hip-hop fans accustomed to 73-minute opuses sometimes complain about 'Illmatic''s brevity, but even if it leaves you wanting more, it's also one of the few '90s rap albums with absolutely no wasted space. 'Illmatic' reveals a great lyricist in top form meeting great production, and it remains a perennial favorite among serious hip-hop fans.

The Queens-based duo of Pharoahe Monch and Prince Po shined brightest on their 1994 sophomore LP “Stress: The Extinction Agenda,” which is receiving a reissue to mark its 30th Anniversary. The classic album featured guest appearances by Q-Tip from A Tribe Called Quest and O.C., with guest production by Buckwild and Rockwilder. In 1998, the album was included as one of The Source's 100 Best Rap Albums. In an era where flexing original styles was mandatory to gain respect, few Hip Hop groups were more respected than Organized Konfusion.

Nearly 22 years after the release of Infamous Mobb’s debut LP, Special Edition, Coalmine Reissues is proud to breathe new life into this Q-Boro classic with a limited vinyl reissue that truly lives up to its name. Comprised of core members Ty Nitty, Big Twins (aka Twin Gambino), and Godfather Part III, IM3 is an integral part of the Q-Boro rap scene, with roots tracing back to Mobb Deep’s quintessential classic The Infamous, where the trio is featured throughout many of the album’s skits. They next appeared rapping on Big Noyd's debut album Episodes of a Hustla and Mobb Deep's 1996 follow-up LP, Hell on Earth. After various label entanglements, the group was finally able to unveil their debut album on March 26, 2002, through their own IM3 label imprint, in partnership with the now-defunct Landspeed Records. With hardcore street bangers like “IM3,” “Killa Queens,” and “B.I.G. T.W.I.N.S.,” along with the neck-snapping “Mobb Ni**as,” the album edged its way into Billboard’s Top 20 R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, peaking at the number five spot on their Independent Albums chart. In addition to a supporting cast that includes Mobb Deep, Big Noyd, Chinky, and the late Hostyle (of Screwball), among others, much of the album’s success can be credited to The Alchemist, whose sinister trademark sound emanates throughout the tracklist, with additional production supplied by Havoc, DJ Muggs, and others. Considered by many Q-Boro rap aficionados as a “Queensbridge holy grail,” the trio delivers high-octane synergy throughout the album’s 16 tracks, characterized by true-to-life street tales of life in the Bridge.

An importantly historic 1993 moment in west coast gangster rap, which brought together the 2 main infamous gangs of LA. The goal was to create an outlet for gang members to release their frustrations with each other on records rather than on the streets. Actual gang members — Crips from Compton, Watts and Long Beach, and Bloods from Inglewood and Los Angeles — auditioned for the group and the best MCs were chosen for the album. All proceeds from the initial Bangin On Wax album sales went towards local schools and parks for the children. Now 30 years later, the original single LP changes hands for over £100, but for black Friday, it’s now available with extra tracks which only appeared on the CD, now as a 2LP, with one red, and one blue vinyl. Limited to 1000 numbered units, only for this special day.

One of the greatest albums in HipHop ever with one of the most iconic album covers of all time - right next to Nas' Illmatic and Wu-Tangs "Enter The Wu". How to describe this album with words that have not been used over and over again? Without superlatives? Not possible. It's simply one of the best albums ever, one that every rap fan can talk about with lyrics everyone can quote - or should be able to quote from. From the recording process to the label situation, the legal hustle provoked by the samples, it is not just one story, it's multiple stories surrounding this album.

Executively produced by MF DOOM before his passing!

By his early 20s, Kurious was already an in-demand voice on the mic. His 1994 major label debut album, A Constipated Monkey, is a classic of its style, marked by heavy beats and nimble rhymes that are razor-sharp yet frequently hilarious. Despite being hailed as one of hip-hop's most compelling lyricists, he didn't release another solo IP for the rest of that decade, but he continued to be sought after. Rap fans the world over know him for his verse on "?," one of the standout songs from his longtime friend and collaborator MF DOOM's heralded Operation: Doomsday. As he prepares for the release of his new album, Majician-the nickname his peers blessed him with a generation ago-Kurious is well on his way to establishing the legacy he's long deserved. The LP, which was executive produced by MF DOOM before his passing, is a mesmerizing blend of technical wizardry and personal introspection. Take "Eye of Horus," where the pulsing drums convey an urgency that borders on panic; Kurious weaves a complex tapestry of history and insight, but does so while ducking through and under each pocket in the beat. Produced in its entirety by Mono En Stereo, Majician is filled with songs like "Eye of Horus," which dance on the line between confession and confrontation. "Separation Anxiety" is a personal bloodletting in the form of lyrical exercise; "Par For the Course," which features the exlusive Mr. Fantastik, makes drum breaks from the early Reagan era sound totally revitalized. Through the radical amount of work Kurious put into the writing and recording of this material, he's removed all ambiguity from the question of whether he can stand as one of the premier MCs of his time.

Non Phixion drops a reissue version of the group’s classic debut “The Future Is Now.” “Utilizing beats that would do Dr. Octagon-era Dan “The Automator” proud and rhyming schemes that bring to mind early Wu-Tang Clan or mid-’90s Gang Starr, Non Phixion exposes the sound of true underground hip-hop. This is music that reflects the sound and attitude of countless rappers selling their albums out of the back of their cars or in booths on the street, cutting together dirty and disjointed sounds with a confidence and quality that is unique to this particular genre. This would all be for nothing if it wasn’t for the excellent raps from Ill Bill, Goretex, and Sabac Red, a trio of rappers who have a Tribe Called Quest-like chemistry. Their clever lyrics, respectable skills, and rough voices make this an intense and dark landmark in alternative rap.

Craig Mack’s 1994 debut release Project: Funk Da World rocked the world when first released, primarily due to the powerful lead single “Flava In Your Ear” which was certified platinum by the RIAA. The full length also received a plaque when certified Gold within months of release – the second single from the record, “Get Down,” also achieved gold status. Unfortunately Mack’s success was overshadowed by label mate the Notorious B.I.G.’s Ready To Die which dropped just a week ahead of Project: Funk Da World. In retrospect, the world certainly has space to recognize two legends as Get On Down presents this seminal recording in a never before seen and Opaque Orchid colored vinyl issue

This special edition 2LP is presented in an alternate cover, gatefold jacket with a six panel insert that contains full album liners, song lyrics, and a forword by Bobbito García.

Originally released as a nine-track LP on Bobbito Garcia’s legendary Fondle 'Em Records in 1996, the Juggaknots’ debut made a massive impact and it remains one of the most revered and groundbreaking releases of the ‘90s independent hip-hop scene.

Ahead of their time, the sibling trio of Breeze Brewin, Queen Herawin and Buddy Slim deftly combine their knack for braggadocio, humor and social commentary with thick, low-end heavy beats for their inaugural effort. It’s an album that helped lay the bedrock for what would become the alternative hip-hop sub-genre that thrives today.

Re:Release: Clear Blue Skies presents their original debut LP in a whole new light with 11 additional tracks comprising re-mastered music and three bonus mixes. This special reissue includes an alternate cover taken from the same Steve Brock photo shoot from the 2002 full length release. We’ve also included a six page insert equipped with a lyric sheet as well as a foreword written by Kool Bob Love himself. The album boasts an eye-catching photo collage comprised of photo archives of vintage family photos, throwback pics and show flyers. Album packaging and layout designed by Frank “DJ Concept” DeMaria.

The most sought after HipHop Live-Album comes as a limited reissue upon HHV request.

The Roots Come Alive is a live album by the hip-hop group The Roots, released on November 2, 1999. This album captures the energy and musicianship of The Roots' live performances, showcasing their dynamic fusion of hip-hop, jazz, soul, and funk. It was recorded during various concerts in Europe and New York, giving listeners a front-row seat to one of the most revered live acts in hip-hop.

The Roots Come Alive is a live performance album that includes renditions of songs from their previous studio albums, as well as new improvisations and extended versions of tracks.
The Roots are known for their live instrumentation, a rarity in hip-hop at the time, and this album highlights their skills as a live band. Questlove (Ahmir Thompson) on drums and Black Thought (Tariq Trotter) as the lead MC, along with the rest of the band, exhibit a tight, cohesive sound with rich musical textures, showing their ability to translate their studio work into a live setting.

The album blends elements of hip-hop, jazz, funk, soul, and rock, reflecting The Roots' eclectic approach to music. It features live interpretations of their recorded tracks with a heavier emphasis on instrumental solos, improvised jams, and extended breakdowns that highlight the musicianship of the group. Unlike many hip-hop concerts that rely on pre-recorded tracks, The Roots perform with a full band, bringing a fresh and unique sound to each performance.

Key Tracks:
"Proceed" – A standout track, showcasing Black Thought’s lyrical dexterity with an extended instrumental jam.
"You Got Me" (featuring Erykah Badu and Jill Scott on the original studio version) – The live version is electrifying, with emotive vocals and powerful instrumentation that add extra depth to this already popular track.
"Essaywhuman?!!!??!" – A live favorite that features The Roots’ improvisational ability, blending live beatboxing, instrument solos, and crowd interaction.
"The Next Movement" – One of their hit singles, which gets a lively, expanded treatment in the concert setting, complete with additional grooves and audience interaction.
"Silent Treatment" – A jazzier, more relaxed live rendition of their classic from Do You Want More?!!!??!, with a focus on the band’s fluidity and Black Thought’s introspective lyrics.

The album does an excellent job of capturing the crowd interaction and the raw energy of The Roots' live shows. Audience cheers, call-and-response segments, and ad-libs contribute to the feel of being at a live concert. Questlove’s drumming, along with the band’s interplay, is a central feature throughout the performances, keeping the groove alive while allowing for spontaneous musical expression.

The album was well received by critics, who praised it for capturing the vitality of The Roots' live performances, which had earned them a reputation as one of the best live acts in hip-hop.
The Roots Come Alive was seen as a bold move, especially at a time when live albums were not common in the hip-hop genre. It reinforced The Roots' status as innovators, who brought an instrumental and performance-based approach to a genre dominated by turntablism and samples.

The album helped further The Roots’ reputation as a trailblazing group that could blend musicality with the raw essence of hip-hop, standing out among their contemporaries.
Their success with this live album also contributed to the growing appreciation of hip-hop as a form of live performance art, influencing other artists to explore live shows in more dynamic ways.
The Roots Come Alive is considered one of the most important live albums in the hip-hop genre, showing that the energy of a live band could be fused with the lyrical power of rap in a seamless, exciting way.

The album bridges the gap between studio precision and live improvisation, showcasing why The Roots were able to gain a wide-ranging fanbase across both hip-hop purists and lovers of live music. It stands as a testament to their creativity and musicianship.

Why you'll love it...
“The Coup’s second album, 1994’s Genocide & Juice, was an emboldened level-up from their first full length. While early Coup material had moments that blossomed on later efforts, Genocide & Juice was where those ideas deepened, becoming more pronounced as their catalog grew. Production wise, it’s replete with colorful samples, thorough skits and big bass, a perfect intersection of ’90s sample-based ingenuity and West Coast funk.

Genocide & Juice is mainly two things: neighborhood tales and unapologetic worldviews bound with fisted activism — made by the group’s core members at the time — Riley, Pam the Funkstress and E-Roc. But there are voices and sound effects woven throughout that give it more texture. Killer production that was able to sound both clearly professional while retaining its edge. At a concise 14 tracks, this album is one of the best sophomore efforts by any group, in any genre.”

44th Move is the combined creative force of pianist & composer Alfa Mist, alongside drummer & producer Richard Spaven. As individuals, the duo have solidified their unrivalled reputations as world class Jazz talents, as exemplified by Alfa’s hugely influential albums such as ‘Antiphon’ & ‘Variables’ and Richard's legendary drum work with the likes of Flying Lotus and Goldie. Initially causing a stir back in 2020 when their joint project first emerged with their genre busting forays into Dance and Hip Hop. Moving into 2025, they now prepare to elevate the levels, and unleash their debut collaborative album ‘Anthem’ via trailblazing Bristolian label Black Acre.

Presenting their debut LP, the pair strive to continue the tradition of adopting a mindstate centred around research and development - pushing themselves to continually learn and grow, raising the bar and uplifting the art form. Launching with first single ‘The Move’, cascading chords elegantly pave the way for Detroit-based rapper Quelle Chris to take centre-stage and deliver purpose-driven lyrics, calling for grit and consistency through life’s challenges. Second single ‘Free Hit’ deploys a scattered junglist break, punctuated by mysterious chord progressions and an enticing, gradually unfurling brass section. Also featuring guest appearances from Bristol turntablist royalty Awkward, ‘Anthem’ moves seamlessly through diverse sonic terrains, the LP traverses Hip-Hop, Techno & DnB, whilst remaining firmly its Jazz-centric sensibilities. On the album’s creation, Richard Spaven says - "The essence of 44th Move is to take the traditional disciplines of live musicianship into electronic forms and compositions. Alfa and I have an aligned appetite to break new ground with every project we do and this is the core ethos of the album".A refined, shifting and accomplished album, it highlights the moment of magic waiting to happen when great minds meet.

AOI: Bionix is De La Soul's sixth full-length album, released on December 4, 2001. The first single, "Baby Phat" featuring Yummy Bingham and Devin the Dude, was an ode to larger sized women. Elsewhere, "Held Down", featuring Cee-Lo, found Posdnuos in an introspective mood as he mused on fatherhood, religion, and fame. Slick Rick also made an appearance on "What We Do (For Love)"; a humorous song about puberty and sexual discovery. The album featured skits with a character by the name of Reverend Do Good, which worked as social commentary as well as the intros and outros of the songs. The final Reverend Do Good skit acts as one final advertisement for Ghost Weed as heard on De La Soul's previous album, Art Official Intelligence: Mosaic Thump. A mischievous teenager takes a hit of the substance, then morphs into Slum Village frontman J Dilla, who provides the intro and outro to the marijuana-themed song "Peer Pressure" (which he also produced).
