You enter Empire of Dust through a door. The one drawn by the artist Mar Galatea on the cover of the first Mojo Sapiens album. A cover with yellow and orange tones that evoke stone, sand, and the clouds of dust from which the music of Mojo Sapiens rises.American Dream, the first track, introduces this idea of empire, against a backdrop of allegiance to the starry flag, of a colossus with feet of clay. An American empire close to the breaking point that risks collapsing into an empire of dust at any moment...If the album mixes blues and hip-hop tones, certain guitar riffs hook it up to rock. But above all, the three musicians draw on the purest American tradition by resonating with the nostalgia of the harmonica.Here we are suddenly immersed in the scenery of Utah: its burning sun and its red cliffs. A setting of country and solitude as in Graves which invites us to reflect on the exploitation of the resources of the planet by Man. Victor and his harmonica take us by the hand once again in The Only One. A piece that evokes loneliness, the need to be yourself and the questions you ask yourself when you feel lost: is it the right choice? Is this the right way? Is there anyone to understand me...?Mojo Sapiens takes us further and slows down on Slow it Down, to focus on the essentials, get rid of the superfluous. An idea that the group is still developing in Give Credit, where being satisfied with simple things, giving meaning and consuming what we really need are notions carried high by the group. Love too, of course, in Love is the Remedy, which is the only way, the only remedy when the future seems closed. Love to lighten painful and sad memories. A sadness and a darkness evoked in Redemption, where the almost diabolical voice of Eli comes to tease our inner demons.But Eye of The Storm provides the answer: on a cloudier, more soaring tone of Leopard DaVinci's synth, Eli's rap responds to Victor's vocals. Two voices that correspond to those that are in our heads at the hardest times. A piece that reminds us that from the shadows springs light, that from chaos reappears life. That moments of storms are sometimes necessary to appreciate a calm sea. I Quit is also an invitation to disconnect in a mind-numbing daily life and in an ever more frenetic pace. The album ends with a message of hope with Everytime I'm High, where the lyrics remind us: "Dark days? The light comes after”.
