Millia, real name Akeem Asani, was born and raised in the Midwest and is now based in the Windy City. With his dancefloor-ready solo project seeing releases on Sweat Equity, Knightwerk, and a string of self-released singles online, Millia has received support from NTS regulars Re:ni & Laksa, Bradley Zero, and Otologic, as well as club and festival plays from Nick León, Tammo Hesselink, Gramrcy, LCY, and Shanti Celeste. For his latest offering, Millia readies two rich organic and dub-influenced tracks for Roy Mills’ Local Knowledge imprint. ‘acab Break’ combines psychedelic samples with tripped out breaks, deep subs, and dense, spacey atmospheres. On the flip, ‘Trip Dub’ delves further into dubwise territory, delivering a tense percussive affair of cavernous soundscapes and weighty drums that stretch effortlessly across the B-side. Elsewhere, with Kindtree and Concave Reflection, Akeem is part of the downtempo super-group Purelink, who enjoyed acclaim with their ‘Bliss / Swivel’ 12” and followed with their debut EP on UwU Dustbath and a performance at New York festival Sustain/Release. Akeem picked up Resident Advisor’s ‘Mix Of The Day’ for his Motion Ward mix in 2022, and has featured DJ mixes with Animalia, Knekelhuis, Warning and c-.

Strictly limited edition of 250 copies. Theodore "Hound Dog" Taylor was born on April 12, 1917, in Natchez, Mississippi. By day, he was a sharecropper; by night, he played the delta jukes. In 1942, following a dangerous encounter with the Ku Klux Klan, he high-tailed it out of the South to Chicago. There, he held a day job while building his reputation as a musician, performing in South and West Side blues clubs and on the streets. It wasn’t until the late 50's that he became a full-time musician, playing regularly at the Expressway Lounge.Taylor developed a raw vocal style and blistering slide guitar technique, using a cheap Teisco Del Rey guitar powered through a Sears Roebuck amplifier. He also had a physical condition called polydactylism, which resulted in an extra finger on each hand. Hound Dog Taylor first recorded in 1960 for Bea and Baby Records, and again in 1962 for the Firma label. The resulting 45s were his only releases during the 60's and these four tracks are included on this record. As a bonus, we have added two tracks by Mississippi-born, long-time blues veteran Homesick James, who, after recording several 45s in the early 50's, didn’t get another single released until 1962. Both numbers feature Taylor on guitar. He died in December 1975, after releasing four albums on the Alligator label, leaving us his own epitaph: ‘When I die, they’ll say, ‘He couldn’t play shit, but he sure made it sound good!’

The next ten-inch cut of the Time Is Now series comes courtesy of Nicky Soft Touch. These four tracks are a taste of things to come, handpicked from an as-yet-unannounced double LP the Bristol native has had in the works since 2019. Nicky Soft Touch's recent outings include two dusty hip-hop dubplates on London's Ghost Notes Worldwide; for Lonely City Sampler he explores a more British sound. Using a tape deck and a pile of old jungle tapes, cut-up snippets were crafted into an audio collage balancing ambience with rave style crescendos. Driving dubwise bass dominates 'Lost In A Sea Of Rolling Eyes' while disrupted breakbeats meet stuttering chords in 'Lonely City Cut 4'. The closing track's garage-inflected UK techno beat is haunted by spaced out diva vocals, a melancholic mover for city nights.
