In the years leading up to their rise, the members of Altın Gün individually traversed various musical landscapes to hone their talents and discover their cultural roots. It all began with bassist Jasper Verhulst, who had developed a deep fascination with Turkish psychedelia and Anatolian rock. Intrigued by the captivating sounds and melodies, he set out to explore Turkey’s rich musical heritage. In the process, Verhulst came across Merve Daşdemir, a classically trained singer with a soulful voice that fit perfectly into his vision. The duo’s shared passion for Turkish music was the catalyst for the formation of Altın Gün. They soon brought in the talents of guitarist Ben Rider, drummer Nic Mauskovic and percussionist Gino Groeneveld, creating a lively and dynamic musical ensemble. Before they rose to fame, Altın Gün immersed themselves in the study of traditional Turkish songs and delved into the works of legendary Turkish artists such as Selda Bağcan and Barış Manço.
