Hailing from both the Appalachian and Piedmont regions of North Carolina, the Steep Canyon Rangers have long held traditional bluegrass paramount, while possessing an exceptional ability to bring it down the mountain, and to incorporate accessible influence from all walks of the region. With the band’s last few albums, they have gained recognition from well beyond the world of bluegrass, earning a reputation as some of the most influential songwriters in Americana today. The band has made a name for themselves across the past quarter-century, with outlets like Rolling Stone recognizing them as "one of the most sought-after groups in Americana, bluegrass, and indie-folk."

Demand for a new live album from the Rangers increased after their GRAMMY-nominated 2019 album North Carolina Songbook, where the band covered songs across a multitude of artists all born in the Tar Heel State (ranging from James Taylor to Doc Watson to Thelonious Monk, to name a few) at MerleFest. The album drew widespread acclaim and topped the Billboard Bluegrass Chart for numerous weeks, and the requests for a live album of Steep Canyon Rangers' original songs grew louder and louder.

Live at Greenfield Lake finally captures the magic of Steep Canyon Rangers' onstage chemistry, demonstrating the band's unparalleled harmonies and rich songwriting that has made the band one of the most critically-acclaimed across Americana music. The spellbinding, tender performances of "Recommend Me" and "Birds of Ohio" mixed with blistering, barnburning renditions of "Afterglow" and "Sunny Days" exhibit the wide breadth of styles and genres that the Rangers tackle in concert.

The album was mixed and pressed at the state-of-the-art audiophile facilities of Citizen Vinyl in the band's hometown of Asheville, North Carolina, and the lacquer is cut by renowned engineer Jeff Powell of Takeout Vinyl.

Steep Canyon Rangers, Asheville, North Carolina’s GRAMMY Award-winning bluegrass outfit, are back with their forthcoming album Morning Shift, produced by Darrell Scott (Robert Plant, Sam Bush, Emmylou Harris). The album marks the band’s first since the departure of lead vocalist and founding member Woody Platt. The Rangers have added acclaimed singer-songwriter Aaron Burdett as an official member of the band, bringing new ideas and harmonies to the sextet’s ever-evolving sound. The album was recorded over a weeklong period at the Inn Bat Cave, a legendary spot that used to be Lynyrd Skynyrd’s old hideout. The first edition vinyl LP of Morning Shift is pressed on translucent orange vinyl and limited to 1,000 copies worldwide.
