”The Last Will and Testament” is a concept record of sorts. A restless musical journey in a way mirroring my own relationship with music as a consumer of it," narrates band leader Mikael Åkerfeldt. "I pick up something here, dismiss something there. I worship and I hate music at the same time. This ambivalence leads me down some type of creative path of my own and then, all of a sudden, a collection of songs has been written. Best case scenario, these songs are good enough to impress the band. Good enough for the ”powers that be” in terms of the industry. Good enough for ”you”?! I love this record. I have to say it (write it). Maybe I’m proud even? There are some familiar ingredients in there I suppose. Most of our music has sprung from the same source, so I guess it’s not much of a shocker if it’s going to sound like ”us”. I’m a bit in awe of what we did with ”The Last Will and Testament”. It feels like a dream. There is some ”coherence" and ” songwriting skills” I hope, but what do I know? I tend to favour the ”strange” over the ”obvious”, but I feel like I’m in the minority, and that’s fine. So…fair warning! Having a long history as a songwriter himself, it's been a dream since his early youth to dive deep into a pool of musical influences and melt them together into what culminated as his new band's debut work "Beyond The Aeons". Mixing many different styles may seem a far stretch, but all these musical vibes, that also attracted several illustrious guest musicians to contribute their special touches, end up blending together in a well-rounded sonic cast that has been described as "Melodic Death Prog". Being able to shine not only by lending the album his signature bass-grooves in this formation, but also contribute additional keyboard, guitar and vocal parts as well, Oppu is looking forward to a long creative future alongside his Octoploid bandmates Mikko Pietinen (drums), Peter Salonen (guitars) and Kim Rantala (keyboards), with Mikko Kotamki (Swallow The Sun-vocalist) joining them indefinitely on lead vocals for live activities.

The distinctive sound of The Eternal is a fusion of dark, melancholic, and emotive Metal with influences from both Doom and Progressive genres. The most recent incarnation of the band includes Jan Rechberger (Amorphis) and Niclas Etelvuori (ex-Amorphis / Flat Earth) along with longtime members Mark Kelson & Richie Poate. Having evolved into a truly international collaboration, with half of the members being based in Melbourne, Australia, and the other half in Helsinki, Finland, the band's seventh studio album 'Skinwalker' promises a continuation of their rich musical legacy and yet is set to be a defining moment creatively for the band. The album features several notable guest appearances including Tomi Joutsen (AMORPHIS), Santeri Kallio (AMORPHIS), Sami Yli-Sirni (KREATOR) and award-winning Tuvian throat singer Albert Kuvezin (YAT-KHA) to name a few. Recorded at drummer Jan Rechberger's Moon Unit Studios and produced by the band's own Mark Kelson, Richie Poate as well as Rechberger, the record was also mixed by Mark and Jan before sending it off to Crystal Mastering in Melbourne, Australia. In the end, creative force Kelson was even responsible for the "Skinwalker" artwork, supported by Travis Smith (OPETH, AMORPHIS etc.) with regards to layout duties.
