The film is about Jane, a young and fascinating model who participates in a cruise with some representatives of a rich and corrupt world connected to the cinema business. Jane’s beauty brings her only bitterness and disappointment. The wonderful kaleidoscope of lounge oddness favors the composer’s jazz roots, shakes and intimate organ work, but also features delightful bursts of source music as well as the romantic side of maestro Piccioni. Released on CD twice (but only in Japan), this forgotten Piero Piccioni masterpiece was never issued on LP, making it one of the most fan-requested titles in this format. This limited LP edition, pressed on audiophile 140 GM white vinyl, has been specially restored and mastered by Chris Malone from the stereo master tapes. The luxurious artwork features the artistry of Luca Barcellona.

Quartet Records, in collaboration with Carosello Edizioni Musicali, presents a definitive, expanded 2-lp edition of Ennio Morricone’s celebrated score for 1971 Italian thriller Giornata Nera PER L’ariete (aka THE Fifth Cord), directed by Luigi Bazzoni and starring Franco Nero, Silvia Monti, Ira Von Fürstenbergm Edmund Purdon, Pamela Tiffin and Agostina Belli. Morricone’s thriller scores remain some of his most distinctive and original works. As demonstrated in his scores for Dario Argento’s efforts in the genre, Morricone’s uncanny ability to combine lyricism, unbridled avant-garde experimentation and stylish elegance was his most significant contribution to the category. Giornata Nera PER L’ariete shows Morricone once again embracing the sophisticated avant-garde sound while beginning his score with a haunting tune performed by Edda Dell’Orso heard over the film’s main titles. The lullaby-like theme has a timeless quality, providing a disturbing and disarming melody for the film. As with many of his giallos, Ennio Morricone’s score for Giornata Nera PER L’ariete was never released on an album (only the main theme was included in the Morricone compilation album Colori in 1971). In 1996, under the composer’s supervision, the Point label released the first official album of the score on CD. The first vinyl edition was released by Dagored on a generous LP in 2001. It was subsequently released by Spettro in 2016, this time using the same program that Morricone had produced in 1996. For this new deluxe, 2-lp Quartet release, the music has been fully restored, remixed and edited by Daniel Winkler from the original session tapes, presenting the first vinyl edition of the complete score as Morricone conceived it for the film. It has been specially mastered for vinyl by Chris Malone, and is presented in a luxurious gatefold jacket printed in transparent bloody red and giallo splatter.

Quartet Records, in collaboration with the Riz Ortolani estate, presents the expanded vinyl edition of one of the titles most requested by maestro Ortolani’s fans: the bizarre 1978 mondo movie Brutes AND Savages (aka Savana Selvaggia) Written by Jenny Craven and directed by Arthur Davis, this belongs to the select group of mondos that became notorious not for their shocking content, but for their lack of understanding of the genre. Surviving in two different cuts (92 mins and 107 mins), Brutes AND Savages focuses on mostly Latin American customs from local natives who do unspeakable things to animals. The single most entertaining feature of Brutes AND Savages is its music by Riz Ortolani, the “de facto” mondo master who was the key musical figure of the genre since its conception in Mondo Cane and its Grammy-winning, Oscar-nominated song, “More.” Ortolani scored countless mondos from Africa Addio (1966) through Addio ZIO TOM (1971) to, obviously, Cannibal Holocaust (1980), netting a few great titles along the way. The composer always found a way to create cool tunes that managed to tie together the insanely wide-ranging episodes that featured inconsistent quality and tone—and when all else failed, he created singular, individually successful cues for self-contained segments that saved as much of the film as possible. A 1978 LP release of the music from Brutes AND Savages is quite hard to come by. Export LPs originating from Australia and Hong Kong routinely fetch outrageously high prices on the secondary market. This new vinyl edition includes a crucial suspense cue that was cut for not meshing with the style of the record. The audio was mastered by Chris Malone from the original master tapes provided by the Ortolani estate, and the discs are pressed in transparent green-jungle, audiophile vinyl.

Quartet Records present the vinyl edition of its brand-new recording of John Barry’s complete score for Séance ON A WET Afternoon (1964), a major work previously missing from the composer’s discography. It was one of his masterpieces for Bryan Forbes that, unfortunately, remained unreleased due to the absence of master tapes. Composed for a small ensemble featuring vibrant percussion and woodwinds, it’s a mysterious, suggestive, unsettling score, reaching its culmination in the long rescue sequence. It showcases John Barry’s great ability to work with small, almost chamber-like ensembles, seeking the specific sound of each story without being an intrusive voice. Leigh Phillips has painstakingly reconstructed and orchestrated the score, which was performed by the prestigious Orquesta de Córdoba conducted by Fernando Velázquez. Recorded and mixed by Marc Blanes, the audio has been meticulously mastered by Chris Malone and the spirit of Barry’s original recording. With elegant design by Nacho B. Govantes and cover art designed by Jim Titus presented in a hard tip-on sleeve, it includes liner notes by Jon Burlingame. The discs are pressed in 140 GM black vinyl and it’s limited to 500 units only.

What more can you say about BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY’S that hasn’t already been said? It is one of the most iconic films in the history of cinema, and that’s just from the first five minutes of the movie: Audrey Hepburn, Hubert de Givenchy’s Little Black Dress, Tiffany’s jewelry, and the longing strains of “Moon River.” Iconic images and iconic music.
The music is perhaps Henry Mancini’s most famous score, awarded two Academy Awards (for Best Original Score and Best Original Song [“Moon River”]. It is the quintessence of his style, as well as the music and lifestyle of the sixties. The movie, its aesthetics and its music marked an era. As was customary in the sixties and during his contract with RCA, Mancini recorded a legendary album with a selection of cues specially arranged for listening pleasure. This album has been available continuously for more than sixty years, and it is impossible to count the number of reissues around the world, as well as the countless covers that singers of all nationalities and styles have recorded of “Moon River.”
But the original version, the one heard in the movie, the magnificent and clever underscore, or “Moon River” itself, performed by Audrey Hepburn, was not released until Intrada found the masters in the Paramount vaults and released the actual score on CD, for which we will never be able to thank Douglass Fake and his team enough.
The new vinyl boom has given us the irresistible opportunity to release the original score on a luxurious double LP, with all the music, the dramatic score and the source music—music to love, to cry, to dance and to be moved by. Quartet Records presents the premiere vinyl edition Ennio Morricone’s bizarre giallo score for the 1974 thriller L’ultimo Uomo DI Sara (aka SaraH’S Last Man).

Directed by actress Maria Virginia Onorato (in her only foray into feature film directing), the movie stars Oddo Bracci as Paolo Castellano, an artist who wants to investigate the death of his ex-wife Sara long after the police declare the case closed. Aided by Sara’s friend Anna (played by Rosemary Dexter), Paolo goes through the hours of footage shot by Sara on her camera, slowly realizing that the identity of the killer is captured on film and his identity might be one of the reasons why the police wants the case closed as soon as possible.

The LP opens with the title song, performed by singer Carmen Villani, a passionate plea for peace and the memory of a doomed romance. The score features a propulsive action theme that Morricone varies and adorns with experimental percussion noises that mimic the sound of big-city traffic. Other tracks in the varied score include a heartbreaking love theme, a nice cue featuring Edda dell’Orso practicing musical scales, and a funny silent film pastiche.

This premiere LP has been produced and mastered by Chris Malone using the first-generation analogue stereo master tapes and pressed in 180 GM audophile black vinyl. The package features luxurious artwork designed by Luca Barcellona.

Quartet Records presents the premiere vinyl edition of killer soundtrack by Ennio Morricone for the 1975 police thriller IL Giustiziere (aka THE Human Factor).

Directed by Hollywood veteran by Edward Dmytryk, the film stars George Kennedy, John Mills, Raf Vallone and Rita Tushingham. The plot is about John Kinsdale (Kennedy), a computer engineer whose family gets brutally murdered while he is working in Naples on a top secret project. Aided by fellow engineer Janice (Tushingham), Kinsdale uses a combination of his expertise as well as brute force to take revenge on the left-wing terrorists—Charles Bronson style!

Morricone’ score comes from the composer’s fertile period of poliziotteschi thrillers and “Years of Lead” dramas that he approached in a similar manner. The music features several variations on the beautiful family theme which eventually gains new meaning as Kinsdale must carry the burden on his own. The music for the terrorists features the psychedelic, percussion-heavy and often ostinato-based cues that Morricone typically reserved for the steamy chaos of his poliziottecshi titles.

The score of IL Giustiziere hasn’t ever been previously released on vinyl. This premeire edition has been produced and mastered by Chris Malone using the first-generation analogue stereo master tapes and pressed in 180 GM audiophile black vinyl.

Quartet Records and Universal Pictures Film Music Classics Collection proudly present the world premiere vinyl release of both the used and unused scores for Alfred Hitchcock’s Frenzy, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the film.

Frenzy marked the director’s triumphant return to London in 1972. With an excellent script by Anthony Shaffer, the film was immediately considered one of Hitchcok’s best and has since become a classic.

After the parting of ways with Bernard Herrmann, Hitchcock changed composers in each of his last four films, choosing from those who were popular at the time. For Frenzy, his first choice was Henry Mancini (breakfast AT Tiffany’s, THE Pink Panther, Hatari!, Charade), who wrote a sumptuous, gothic-hued score featuring an unusual orchestral palette. The main theme uses the dolorous tones and sepulchral pedals of a mighty organ, and the tension-filled score that follows is grim and at times almost brutal. Hitchcock, feeling it was too “dark and cruel,” turned it down and hired celebrated British composer Ron Goodwin (murder, SHE Said, Battle OF Britain, Where Eagles Dare, Squadron 633) to compose a lighter, yet still suspenseful, score. For the main title, a panoramic shot over the Thames, Goodwin wrote a majestic melody ornamented with trumpets and timpani, in the best English tradition of pomp and circumstance.

Frenzy was the only completely rejected score in Henry Mancini’s long career, and also one of the most famous and requested Goodwin scores over the ensuing decades. Neither of them, however, have previously been officially released in any form until today.

This 2-lp collection has been painstakingly produced, restored and mastered by Mike Matessino from stereo and mono elements vaulted at Universal Pictures, with the collaboration of both the Ron Goodwin and Henry Mancini estates.

This special edition features an exclusive, in-depth essay by writer and composer Deniz Cordell packaged in a deluxe tip-on gatefold and pressed in audiophile 180 GM black vinyl.

Quartet Records, in collaboration with GDM and Universal Music Publishing Italia, presents a 7-inch, 45 RPM, presents the premiere vinyl edition of the two key themes composed by Ennio Morricone for the grotesque comedy Crescete E Moltiplicatevi in 1973. The film was directed by Giulio Petroni in 1973 and starred Lionel Stander, Hugh Griffith and Rosalba Neri. Morricone’s unusual score, an explosive mixture of sacred and profane, is a guttural vocal work performed by I Cantori Moderni di Alessandroni and Edda Dell’Orso, with the participation of Oscar Valdambrini’s wonderful flugelhorn. Mastered by Chris Malone, this 7-inch disc is pressed in elegant white, audiophile vinyl.

Quartet Records was proud to celebrate the tenth anniversary of J.A. Bayona’s horror cult-classic The Orphanage in 2017 with a newly recorded, complete edition of the score composed by Fernando Velázquez , The Orphanage was the first collaboration between director and composer, a partnership that has continued in such modern classics as The Impossible and A Monster Calls. Now this new recording is available in an exclusive, limited and numbered collectors’ vinyl release.

It may seem unusual that a barely ten-year-old score is being re-recorded, but giving The Orphanage a second chance to shine is an undertaking of which Quartet Records is especially proud. This tenth-anniversary edition includes every note Fernando Velázquez wrote for the film in its original conception to give fans a bold, new take on a modern classic. The original soundtrack album was negotiated and signed off before the recordings were made, and while Fernando wasn’t quite satisfied with the performance, the album had to be released nonetheless. It was a problematic recording, without much possibility of correcting mistakes (do not forget that The Orphanage was a low-budget film). When the possibility of expanding the original 47-minute-long program was being discussed in early 2017, a review of the original multi-track recordings revealed that time hasn’t been kind to Velázquez’s first major score, so a new plan was formulated. The composer took it upon himself to revisit the project by doing a brand-new recording with The Basque National Orchestra, the same ensemble he used for A Monster Calls, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, Submergence and his “Concert Suites” album. By using one of his favorite orchestras and his usual recording engineer, Marc Blanes, whom he couldn’t use on his seminal score, Quartet Records and Fernando Velazquez present the same music he wrote a decade ago (including previously unrecorded alternates), using the know-how and skills he has gained in the past 10 years to bring fans a new recording of which we can all be proud.

This exclusive, 2-lp edition has been remastered for vinyl by Chris Malone, and includes newly commissioned artwork by PosterSpy & Karl Fitzgerald. The record comes in a deluxe gatefold package that includes statements from Fernando Velázquez and director J.A. Bayona. This is a collectable, must-have edition for all Velázquez, Bayona or horror movies fans!
