The album opens with the Saddest Smile whose minimal guitar is overlaid with a lamentational vocal. It is a pensive, introspective exploration of disenchantment, isolation, and the self-hatred projected on others that sets the tone for the rest of the record. A Very Good Life proceeds with a crunchy snare, and plodding bass that leads into Larissa Iceglass's melancholic vocal style, already evolved in both production and range highlighted by a haunting echo, and spectral effects, lyrically continuing the theme of loathing and projection explored in the previous track. The word Albatross is often used as a metaphor for a curse-like psychological burden. It is an allusion to Samuel Taylor Coleridge's poem The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. Here in a song propelled forward with strumming guitar, bass, and scratchy backing percussion, icy vocals, and introspective pauses, Larissa Iceglass grapples with the warring between two internal factions: the head and the heart. I'm A Reject changes it up with a more upbeat tempo, bigger sound, and almost tribal melody, sculpting a mood that's heavy on the echoey distortion. Sounding like she's singing in a mausoleum, Iceglass's rich vocals wryly recount an anthem of pale faces laughing at banality as they triumphantly wear black and haunt cemeteries. Cadaverously Quaint opens with a very unsettling synth staccato rhythm that launches into early-80s snare infused dance track, evoking the early years of Mute and Some Bizzare. Maybelline's blood-curdling vocal is both ghostly and vampiric in its own almost indecipherable language. The song's nightmarish, howling wind effects add to the overarching atmosphere of what it might be like if Mary Shelly were to merge the myths of both Pygmalion and her Modern Prometheus. Bring Your Own Wine opens with a marching drumline leading into a classic guitar post-punk guitar riff, overlaid with Iceglass growling and purring her disgust toward humanity both inward and outward. Northern Lights is a defiantly romantic song, written as a...

Sadness is Rebellion is a powerful anthem that brilliantly opens the album with its quirky ghost-like and windswept synth with Larrisa Iceglass lyrical lamentation set to a jangly bass, and languid guitar solo. This is a pleasantly peculiar and empowering song celebrating the merits of sorrows and grief emotions we all feel, yet are quick to deny. Kindness is rationed so sparsely, and compassion is often denied. But is nostalgia denial? Or is it important as means to know that happiness can return? Regardless, the only path forward to move on from sadness is directly through it, and in this 21st century digital age, that truly is a rebellious act. Your Fork Moves is a German language philosophical thought experiment set to a darkwave dance groove led by dark bass and medieval organ synths. Here Iceglass ponders the meaning of existence in relation to the movement of utensils as a metaphor for agency, or a willing lack thereof. Stahlwerk is William Maybelline's gloomy encomium on the industrial landscapes of Berlin during Winter months where the days are short, the skies are grey, and the suns veiled until the return of spring. With it's eerie Steel drum intro, the song perfectly conveys the depressing atmosphere set to the Kraftwerkian precision of synthesizers and percussion. Hall of Ice is a frosty callback to the band's first album languidly sung by Miss Iceglass herself. The song beings with simple bass and drum machines giving way to the mesmerizing twinkle of xylophones. All of this amidst a romantic song entreats a partner to pirouetting on a pair of skates, celebrating the anthem "lose your digital life", if all but for a moment while engaging an icy interlude face to face. Gallowdance is perhaps Lebanon Hanover's magnum opus, their most well-known song whose artwork is the de facto logo for the band. It is a bass-driven Memento Mori. A sombre reminder to gather ye roses while ye may, as we all are dancing on the precipice of death, so we might as well dance together. And it is thus that Laris...

The album beings with the Die World, led by its minimalist instrumental overture of guitar and bass, with sparse echoes highlighting the isolated nature as Iceglass recites the chants "Die Welt." Haunting strains of synth are peppered throughout the track with despondent urgency through lyrics alluding to a dying love adrift at sea like a lonely iceberg. Ice Cave, the album's de facto title track as it relates to the sleeve, reverberates with peculiar and sonorous echoes effects, with Maybelline's bellowing vocals resounding off the cavernous walls of ice, while the bass relentless pulses, ominous guitar chords While his thundering voice brings a gravitas to the track...he is trapped in the ice cave. No1 Mafioso is Tarantino Gothique. This is a crime noir thriller, about a made man being interrogated. The song's bassline ties the track together like Lebowski's lamented rug. Eerie guitar effects resembling Dick Dale meet The Munsters are woven in conversation with Larissa's deep-throated declaration of "I'm just doing my job," augmented by her cavalier swagger in the song's music video. In defiant contrast to the rest of the album, Sand, and its accompanying music video, is a day at the beach. A melody ensues that is slow and bubbly like the foam of waves dissolving on the shoreline. This reverie is Led by a languid Gothic-rock bassline and a jerky and spasmodic interplay between the treble and low frequencies. As a result, the song evokes a windswept atmosphere that borders on No Wave instrumentation but is brought down to earth with Larissa's stoic German language vocals. "He's dead, Jim." Totally Tot is trademark Lebanon Hanover wit, refurbishing valley parlance into uber goth sarcasm with Maybelline bellowing the Chants over and over that he is dead. Ghostly synths march in quickened procession reminiscent of 70s BBC sci-fi soundtracks, lurching around on the dancefloor, cumbersome yet confident. This is underscored by the accompanying video where Maybelline convulsively gyrates in the woods, while...

Following the release of the dreamy and bewitching darkwave debut single "Mirror Twin", Harsh Symmetry announces the release of a full-length debut Display Model on Fabrika Records, home of Selofan, Lebanon Hanover, and She Past Away, whose own Doruk O?ztu?rkcan mixed and mastered the LP. With a vocal style reminiscent of Cocteau Twins collaborator Cinder (This Mortal Coil, Cindytalk), and Ian McCulloch of Echo & The Bunnymen, Harsh Symmetry's Julian Sharwarko is the epitome of old-school and post-punk and goth, capturing a vision that perfectly matches his sound, while physically resembling his music forebears to the point where he looks like he just stepped out of a copy of Smash Hits circa 1983. Hailing from Sacramento, California, Sharwarko's love of music began at the tender age of 8, with parents who influenced his early music tastes by playing the music of Siouxsie and The Banshees, The Birthday Party, Iggy Pop, Depeche Mode, and Bauhaus.

A match made in heaven and hell, since forming in the cradle of Europe Athens, back in 2012, dark synth duo Selofan have paved their own perditious way, reinventing the modern Darkwave scene throughout the continent and worldwide with their prolific creativity and work ethic over the past decade. Through varied experimental synth-scapes conjured with keen ears for sound design, production, and theatrical aesthetics, Selofan rest not on the laurels of just creating highly danceable coldwave infused music, but with together with Joanna Pavlidou's haunting vocals, and Dimitris Pavlidis' throbbing bass guitar, and modular synth compositions, the pair conjure whole other worlds and narratives throughout each album and music video they create. Thus far the Selofan have released 5 studio albums, issued through their own legendary label they curate themselves: Fabrika Records. Through their Fabrika family, Selofan have championed such acts as Lebanon Hanover, and She Past Away, aiding these bands in becoming two of the most popular Darkwave acts worldwide. In the Spring of 2020, Selofan released the video for the hopelessly plaintive "There Must Be Somebody", the first single from their forthcoming sixth studio album Partners In Hell, the follow-up to 2018's widely popular Vitrioli LP. "There Must be Somebody" is a discordant composition, mimicking the startled song of birds after a disturbance in a wooded enclave on a mountainside, while a magick ritual unfolds. The album itself opens with "Grey Gardens", a menagerie of morose melodies setting a sombre tone for the rest of a bleak record whose sound design and dreamscapes evoke the best sounds of British and German post-punk of the 80s. "Almost Nothing" is a brooding bell-driven track with a dark and pirouetting melody that is the perfect soundtrack to a figurine twirling in a music box. The German language "Nichts" means No, and this song is both sinister and cinematic with sighing keys, shuddering drum machines, and German lyrics sung with sorrowful conviction. "Zusamen", is a word often asked if you are together, or separate, is a dark ballad whose shadowy keys weave a nightmarish delirium, evoking the soundscapes of a lullaby sung in a haunted dollhouse. "4am" is a restless rhythm, whose soft percussive melody tosses and turns alongside subtle bass and string accents overlaid with despondent vocals. "Happy Consumers" sounds like the swirling of a finger drawn upon the edge of crystalline glass, with vocals and drum machines coming emanating from an adjacent room with echoing acoustics, collectively evoking the sound like lingers when the somnambulist wakes from his dream. "Absolutely Absent" hums onward like a phantom train ride that is a one-way ticket to madness, and with the next track "Metalic Isolation" the locomotive beats gather more steam, propelled forward with anachronistic melody. The album closes with "Auf Dein Haut", which translates as on your skin, and the song is both tactile and tenebrous with sensuously dark synth textures amidst howling German vocals that take flight like witches during a sabbat

XAM Duo - the Yorkshire-based pairing of Matthew Benn and Christopher Duffin - follow up their acclaimed self-titled 2016 debut with a new album. They have spent the past few years collaborating with Virginia Wing and releasing the fun single 'Tisch Tennis', as well as playing live with everyone from Stereolab, Sonic Boom and Michael Rother to Jessy Lanza, The Necks and Anna Meredith. They are also both members of Holodrum, the band formed from the ashes of Hookworms whose debut album came out earlier this year. Despite being over five years in the making, 'XAM Duo II' is a much more concise affair than their debut, clocking in at just under 30 minutes. The journey begins and ends with the beat-driven 'Blue Comet' and 'Cold Stones', taking in shorter ambient jams along the way, making use of saxophone, drawn out tape chords, floating Rhodes piano and spaced-out synths, alongside very precise and intentional, sequenced and punchy synth tones. With the digital approach it could feel cold and processed, but it's the opposite - warm and natural. This is something that is reflected in the striking artwork by long-time collaborator Jonathan Wilkinson which comes from a series of prints inspired by his time hiking around the Calder Valley in West Yorkshire. One thing that has stayed the same is the influence of The Sopranos, with three of the six tracks on the album named after episodes of the classic series.

With silent film cinematic aesthetics imbued with unique and 21st-century flair, Ukranian Coldwave Duo The Glass Beads invoke sorrowful sounds, both strange and sensual, on their debut LP Therapy, melancholic life stories focused on the search and struggle of trying to find your way as an individual way and to accept yourself. These themes explored on the record are filled with pain and anger as well as hope. The Glass Beads feature the talents of musicians Mark Arshynnikov and Morin Sane, a pair of musicians whose Slavic features construct an appearance that is altogether commanding, beautiful and timelessly Gothic, yet gracefully tempered with a modern and tasteful style woven between two eras of the centennial: 1920, and now. In collaboration, Mark and Morin conjure melodies that reverberate like footsteps through the hallways of an abandoned house, haunted by memories of love, sickness, and death. Their melodic music is interwoven with sighing keys, palpitating drum machines, sauntering basslines, and disaffected vocals like an eastern european version of Velvet Underground chanteuse Nico. It has been 4 years since the two made their debut with “Going”, a song that would two years later make itself part of The Glass Beads’ 4 track debut EP Phobia issued on cassette via Squall Records. For that release, The Wave of Things spotlighted the pair in their Sounds of Ukraine episode, Describing them as a cross between Lebanon Hanover and Drunken C, and highlighted their mesmerizing video for the title track “Phobia” where a blindfold vocalist Morin Sane drifts amongst a field of sunflowers in stark black and white.

Once you enter Selofans' "Cine Romance" you will never want to leave again. You will be transferred in a new-wave world of playful irony, electronic melodies and experimentation. Once we go through the gates of this Cinema we shall forget our fears in the sound of a cinematic track inspired by David Lynchs' movie ''Dune". After this catharsis we are ready to enter the dark, mutant world of -according to our opinion- the currenlty most visionary band emerging from the Greek underground. Selofans' world is multi sided, you may feel directly connected to it and the next moment you may lose the ground under your feet. Polymorphism comes from Greece and has always been a characteristic for Selofans' music. The album is singular in concept but varies genres: dark-wave treasures, synth-punk spells, melodic saxophone fairy-tales and early industrial beats coexist in harmony, while a hallucinating voice sings or whispers poems of great emotional tension in different languages, exposing uncomfortable truths. This album transfers a powerfully original fusion of energies and is meant to be only for the wild at heart! Limited to 1000 copies across three different colour-ways, includes download link, inner sleeve with the lyrics. Genre: Alternative / Cold-Wave / Experimental. Clear w/ Black vinyl LP

One of Europe's most popular alternative / dark wave bands. Lebanon Hanover have over one million monthly listeners on Spotify. Following their first US tour in over a decade, Lebanon Hanover returns with a soul-stirring double A-side single release, marking their first new material since the captivating 2020 album, 'Sci-Fi Sky.' Now, the enigmatic duo of William Maybelline and Larissa Iceglass beckons listeners into unventured sonic domains, intricately weaving folk-driven acoustic dream pop with the vulnerable essence of post-punk in a contemplative exploration of life's ephemeral yet profound nature. Embarking on a Cure-like sonic voyage reminiscent of the 'Head on the Door' and the 'Kiss Me' era, title track 'Better Than Going Under' manifests as a romantic, sombre daydream. William Maybelline's brooding baritone intertwines with sighing back vocals, narrating an ode to life's fleeting yet boundless vistas. The acoustic strums initiate a folk-driven narrative which, when coupled with a celestial choir, crafts a contemplative soundscape of cautious optimism, reminiscent of Echo and the Bunnymen or The Church.. KYIV: Bearing the name of Ukraine's capital, 'KYIV,' voiced by Larissa Iceglass, delves into a narrative reflective of the sorrow and despair entwined within war-torn regions like Ukraine and beyond. The acoustic guitar and drum machine create a Cocteau Twins' 'Treasure'-esque soundscape, evoking a melancholic yet beautiful auditory journey. Iceglass's voice, transitioning from her husky baritone to a more resigned lament, embodies a poignant reflection on the harsh realities faced by those embroiled in conflict-ridden landscap

Darkwave artist Harsh Symmetry returns with sophomore album "Imitation" via Fabrika Records. Los Angeles-based musician Julian Sharwarko has swiftly carved out a commanding presence with his darkwave project. Sharwarko's adeptness at bridging the gap between the past and present is palpable, as he seamlessly blends influences from genre titans such as Depeche Mode, The Cure, New Order, Echo and the Bunnymen, The Teardrop Explodes, and Human League, while also incorporating elements from contemporary acts like Twin Tribes and Boy Harsher. Harsh Symmetry's second album, "Imitation," spans the chasm of darkwave and synthpop, a world-weary modern album, warmed by the solid embrace of nostalgia. Astonishingly, the entire album was entirely recorded and performed by Shawarko, in a remarkably quick turnaround from his last year's critically acclaimed debut album, 2022's "Display Model." Releasing a new album every year during the 1980s was par for the course with bands like The Cure and Siouxsie and the Banshees, as well as other highly prolific bands such as his labelmates Lebanon Hanover, but this level of artistic output is rarely matched today. "A lot of the material was informed by isolation and struggling with the paradox of wanting to be original yet feeling like your entire identity is built on mimicry," he admits. "The album was recorded as I was preparing to move out of the city I grew up in, I guess that kind of nudged me to think about what I'm doing more, and the place my work might have in the world." That mindset led to a pleasant surprise during his recent tour, which he describes as a 'really interesting and exciting experience.' This year, Harsh Symmetry graced the stages of Wave Gotik Treffen and the Grey Scale Festival in Munich, to much audience acclaim, cementing the project's status as an essential artist in the international darkwave scene. As Selofan's fifth studio album, Vitrioli, from 2018, is a testament to the tragedy of life. The Greek duo, Joanna Pavlidou and Dimitris Pavlidis, who recorded the album in the Fabrika Records home studio, continue on in their poetic, but heartbreaking, music set to a dance beat. Between languages (Greek, English, German, and Spanish), Selofan feels on the brink of mania with Vitroli. However, the madness is controlled, the songs are restrained hysterics that culminate into the alchemic perfection of the band's specific moody sound. From synthpop to synthpunk elements, the twelve-track LP leads listeners through dark corridors and into haunted, empty beds. There is a resignation to a doomed destiny with Vitroli-a trait that connects all Selofan releases-as a bitter pain and loneliness that cannot, or will not, subside. The album begins with "Give Me a Reason" whose lyrics feel universal in this day and age: Give me a reason, to get out of bed / I could just watch the ceiling instead. It's heartbreak is profound as bells and voice pads echo under Joanna's voice. The adjacent music video for the song was directed by Dimitris Chaz Lee, and the band describes the video as "depicting the fragile nature, conflicts, emotional demands, and vulnerability of each person in a relationship." 3RD PRESS 3 NEW EDITIONS shipping end of January Opaque Black Edition of 300 Transparent Green Edition of 350 White In Black Edition of 350
