New Amsterdam Surf Association: The counter movement to mainstream surfing

New Amsterdam Surf Association is synonymous with a rebellious counter movement that challenges the established surf culture. New Amsterdam Surf Association was founded by former windsurfing pro Paul Zeper. Zeper developed his passion for surfing at the age of 14, in typical Dutch weather conditions. In contrast to the tropical conditions normally associated with surfing, Paul Zeper and his surf crew encountered brown-colored water, muddy shores, very cool water temperatures and lots of wind. But all adversity could not stop the surfers from practicing the sport they love most. Just the opposite was the case: the New Amsterdam Surf Association founder and his buddies made friends with these conditions, because it meant they only shared the sport of surfing with those who were truly passionate about it – no matter the circumstances.

During his training as a graphic designer, Paul Zeper naturally began to combine his two great passions and started working on his own surf brand. The idea of the New Amsterdam Surf Association was born. The result of his work was some apparel pieces that represent a counter movement within the established surf culture. This can be seen in the strict colorways and clear graphics of the New Amsterdam Surf Association designs, giving the wearers the feeling of being united in their common passion and perseverance.

The New Amsterdam Surf Association represents a very specific vibe far away from the mainstream. This brand caters to those who don’t need the perfect wave or ideal conditions. New Amsterdam Surf Association is for those who love a challenge.
